Allods Online: Item Mall Opened, Prices Stir Uproar

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

gPotato opened Allods Online's cash shop today, and players are not happy, not happy at all! The prices for a number of items on the cash shop are a bit on the steep side, to put it lightly. For example, upgrading your bag space with six additional slots (from 18-24) will set you back $20.

From browsing the various complaints it sounds like players would have to pony up $1 for every hour of PvP they wish to participate in and $13.50 for 10 hours of raid time. I don't have much experience with F2P games, but I definitely wouldn't open up my wallet at those prices.

How about you? Let us know in the comments below!

     Wow...what a ripoff.

That is simply outrageous! If they are going to have such steep prices like the ones shown, they might as well make this a subscription-based game.....

And how much would a sub for this game be?  $150 a month?  At the current F2P prices, thats about how much it would be.  Either someone made a big mistake an accidentally tacked on a 0, or gpotatoe is nuts and has no business sense.  Even the guys that spend $100s+ on cash shop games will be scared away.  Someone calculated that it would be around $42,000 to pimp out your armor with runes...

I concur, Sage. $20 for 6 item pack slots? I'm afraid to see their idea of a sub deal.

  • OyjordOyjord Member UncommonPosts: 571

I hate to admit it, but I'm feeling a bit of nerd rage atm.  I was enjoying this game, but I have plenty of money to pay for sub games that don't nickle and dime (or in this case $5 and $20) me to death.

    Total fail

This must be an attempt to get players to not try the game. Seriously, $42,000 to put in max rune slots, in-freaking-sane. I guess you might want to sign over that 401k plan while your at it.

they'll soon see that the market will not bear such reprehensible prices, i hope.

srsly, they'd get more ppl just charging 15 bux a month like all the sub games  from what i hear, it's better than some of the sub games out there that charge that much.

prices that high?  lets hope people do not give in and that the Gpot people wake up to find empty servers.

I really want to give these guys the benefit of the doubt.  Maybe they made a great game but made a stupid mistake in the process.

Some people think that the Cash shop for NA "accidentally / or by mistake" added an additional zero.  Apparently on the russian servers, the bag upgrade is $2.00 not $20.00.   But, I also ready that pimping your character out costs $42000.  Assuming that we take out the zero from 42k, that's still $4200 to pimp out your character... You have to be effing kidding me.

I guarantee that Gpot will release a statement saying it was "a mistake" and that the prices arn't accurate.  What choice do they have at this point...

That aside, to really become competitive in this game, you're going to spend more than $15 a month.  Which begs the question, why in the world would anyone believe this game is f2p?  And then you have to ask yourself the question, is the money you would have to pay in Allods every month on a FREE TO PLAY game (oxymoron) better than subscribing to a p2p game?  Absolutely not.

UNLESS, Allods is the best game ever invented to justify the average 15-20 bucks you'll spend a month.  Based on their pricing, you'll need to spend hundreds of dollars a month if you're a hardcore player.

It doesn't cost too much to remove FoD at 40. Its 3.5G or something like that, and I guess the perfumes do boost hp a little but that still doesn't matter too much in PVP if you know what you are doing. The bag can be upgraded by a quest and it isn't hard to do at all. Overreactions are bad.

Im glad you did not have a hard time doing the bag quest on the Empire side which requires multiple ultra rare item drops x 10 that I and many others in my guild have farmed for over 8 hours to only recieve 1-3 of one at a time if we are lucky.  It is easier on the League side due to not needing as many drops. I have yet to meet a person who has ever got more than 1 chitin shell btw (even in CBT, and you need 10). Me and many others are trying to help Gpotato see that selling the items for a more reasonable price will equal more sales, and thus more profit.

I will gladly spend $15 a month on this game, but not what gpotato expects with these prices.

The accident arguement fails since they spent over 6 hours implementing the CS last night. They know what the prices are since they launched the servers at ~7 am EST this morning when the fires began.

The inconveniences they have posed to the players to encourage players is not fun imo, and the opinion of many others, yet they expect too much to alleviate them.

That is the issue alot of us have. We do not mind supporting this game around $15 a month. Anymore would be insane due to P2P games offering better gameplay, more content, and almost none of the inconveniences this game imposes on you.

    Cheers!

Question, is this stuff achievable in some way in game? I remember there being a *damn hard* quest to open up more bag slots being in the first zone. Do you have to spend $ to pvp, raid and modify items? If the games forces this, then yes prices like that are indefensivable (if they ever were). If you can achieve this sort of stuff in game without spending, but spending is a short cut, imo they can charge what the hell they like and people can take it or leave it to take advantage of that shortcut.

Edit : I perhaps should qualify the damn hard bit with 'very time consuming' as it required a lot of hard to get drops.

Some friends and i have had a pretty good time playing around in the game so far.  We intended on continuing to play as well.  However, IF the prices they have in their item shop are going to stay so high, there is no way any of us will continue.  On the other hand, it could just be a mistake and incorrect placement of the decimal, like many are saying.

It seems like most things are available in the game, and that items from the shop will mostly make things a little easier or faster for people, without creating a massive imbalance.  So, if they get the prices where they belong and don't put game-altering items in there, it should work out fine.  The devs at gPotato aren't stupid, I'm sure, and they'll get things cleared up.

These are so mad that it almost seems it is a PR stunt to get people to look their way. Certainly worked in that regard!

This is actually why I quit Allods. With the "FFA-PVP" and Item shop problems I've decided my time is spent better elsewhere. Like recreating Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel in the ceiling of my bedroom using only glow in the dark paint!

    Gpotatoes have gotten greedi...er!

  • diamonddust1diamonddust1 Member UncommonPosts: 31

I can see why my friend now said  "Gpotato is hosting....fail". At first this game was too good to be true but blam here comes paying to raid in a F2P game and it costs more to pay for extra storage then it even does in GW......lol wtf/

I guess they still see us as more economically stable than themselves and nickel and dime us as a result.
