Walking in stations is absolutely unnecessary. Why is it so important to WALK in this game to some people? It's really not what the game is about. It's just so amazingly dumb that people won't play this amazing game because the game doesn't revolve around needlessly shuffling around in a station. If you want to walk so badly, get off your chair and do it! Seriously, this is the kind of request that ruins games with good vision.
What a wonderfuly adorable angry little person you are.
Its just great how you take something and dumb it down to the most barest minimum as "just walking" in order to attempt to manifest an insult (Because we all know that what this world needs, is more insults.)
Clearly since YOU don't understand something, that means its LAME AND NOBODY SHOULD LIKE IT EITHER!
You know, if you enjoy whats in EVE now. I'm really happy for you. But why do you have to take something that someone else wants/likes and try to make them feel bad for it? What do you get out of that? Its really sad.
If you really were a fan of EVE Online, then you'd be happy... nay THRILLED, that something was being developed for the game to help it grow to yet a larger audience, subsequently strengthening the game's longevity into the distant future.
But nah, being angry and mean... thats just EASIER.

Instead of belittling someone's point to make it seem pointless, you could argue the great benefits of your point, 'cause thats how a debate works.
Now whats the point in walking around on the station in this game. Your charecter has no gear to show off, theres no different clothes for your charecters, and with the current system you dont waste time walking to the market, then to the fitting, then to the insurance, then to the medical bay... see where im going with this. They could very well add all the clothes to show off your amazing style and unnecessary walking but its unnecessary.

Well it is sorta unnecessary... but what is necessary? this new planetary interaction isnt "Neccessary" its just a cool thing to have in the game... same with walking in a station and having your own shop, and all the cool things that will come from that. I play EVE now, and am defiantly looking forward to Incarna, more so than this expac... but still this one will be cool.
By no planatary combat, does that mean if I'm in a ship on a planet and I see someone elses ship, I can't shoot their ship?
(Like, you know - Normal combat that everyone does right now )
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but AFAIK there isn't any flying around on the planets... Its just an interface that pops up when you're near a planet, through which you can survey, mine, build etc.
Which is still wicked and a big + to EVE, but it isn't the flying around on planets that I think some people are interpreting it as.
Any word on when CCP will decide to quit calling their content patches expansions? I know, generally alot go into these patches but not enough that anyone would actually pay for them separately. Anyway, great game and great studio, just wished they'd quit calling content patches "free expansions."
The most misused word on the internet:
loose
adjective, looser, loosest, adverb, verb loosed, loosing. adjective 1. free or released from fastening or attachment: a loose end. 2. free from anything that binds or restrains; unfettered
The word you are looking for is L-O-S-E. YOu can NOT loose a game.

How is this any different from moon mining? It sounds like they're just making planets into moons and adding some new dodads that float next to them to mine them out.... Or are they saying you'll be able to actually land/dock on the planets and set up junk?
Also does this mean you cant automatically warp to 0 on planets for fear of being shot by a base?
So they are adding another "back-drop" to indicate that you are on a planet. I know it doesn't say that any where, but judging how the game looks when you are in a player owned station or a generic station, the only indication of your current location is a different backdrop for your chat room. It's weird for such a supposedly PVP oriented game, their new expansion doesn't have any new combat involved with the material that is being added?
This is so much more awesome than walking around in a station. You get to build things and help to develop the surface of a planet. And then in a few years when a lot of the planets have a bunch of stuff on them, the Dust 514 players will come along and pewpew the shit out of each other in the environments you helped to establish. WTF, that is so awesome.
Walking in stations is necessary for one reason and one reason only, Role Playing. If the TTH preview of Walking in Stations shows anything it means corporations, housing, mini-games etc could be used by the players of Eve Online.
Also this is CCP, the company is actually looking for a fashion designer ffs for their game(s).
EDIT: I can't find the video on You Tube I am sure someone can dig it up. I believe it was a past fanfest not2009.

I disagree. It might suprise you it seems, that a portion of EVE players spend time offline from New Eden doing and playing other things together. Its the social aspect of the game that is vital to the survival of players, and it shows in anyone that sticks with it and has more to show than asking questions about "how to be the best tank" six months in. I have nothing but respect for CCP and their unwavering vision and interaction with the playerbase. Also I love EVE itself so I may be a little biased.
EDIT: Just to iterate a point that isn't immediately clear, it isn't only roleplayers that will benefit from Incarna. Also the people that think tyrranis will not add anything, obviously do not understand what industry means to this game.

Everything beyond one big undecorated room where all the chars have the same one attack and the same one defense and are represented by a cube is unnecessary.

Spoken by someone that has a truly amazing and deep understanding of EVE online from having played at least past the 14 day trial. Maybe even the 21 day? Dare to be bold pilot...wait..don't bother. We don't want you.

Not to speak for dhayes, but it makes a good opportunity to weigh in on the topic. I don't think they were bashing EvE in their comment so much as addressing the idea that "x" feature is unnecessary. Now specific to Incarna, if someone didn't want to use that feature, I'm pretty sure they could stay in their ship. So, instead of looking at this as "unnecessary" why not look at it from the "what can we do with this" view point. I mean, the EvE community as a whole, is pretty creative with the games current features. What harm is there in adding even more?
From my own point of view, I personally enjoy the game a lot with just my ship. That said, I would certainly enjoy having more then a portrait to represent my in game persona. The game isn't broken for me with that missing, but I would find more value in the game if/when that feature is implemented. And just think of those people who are wardec'd in high sec....No more sitting there watching a ship spin in station....

Aye, its not necessary but adds a new dimension to the game that at first, might not be appreciated, but CCP have shown time and time again that they update the game in a way that does not immediately seem necessary. Wormholes or the industrial expansion (apologies for memory failure) seemed to many people to be fluff. To be frank I don't know anyone that doesn't get excited about particuler types of wormholes (0.0 to hi-sec and 0.0 to 0.0 region etc) and I have never seen the manufacturers happier in our corp.
I don't think folks realize the level of game change that's coming. Planetary exploration, infrastructure and resource exploitation will utterly alter the way EVE plays out from that day forward. Measuring the value of a star system will be completely redefined (which means reasons for war decc'ing will also change). CCP is taking a huge risk introducing this change, but I think it's the right direction for them, as long as the implementation goes well. Be interesting to watch unfold.
I'm just really interested to see whether or not industrialising planets will take place from one's ship or whether or not we'll be allowed to manually placed buildings etc. on the planet's surface. I hope it's the latter...

I don't even believe in Jeebus.
Eve online just keeps getting better & better!
wow. This could be huge. EvE is rocking
So do you interact with it from space or do you get up close and personal (or up close and in your ship, in EVE's case)
This statement is false.
