Champions Online: State of the Game Reveals Revelation Test/Release Dates

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

A new "Special Edition" State of the Game letter is now available on the official Champions Online website. This latest letter reveals a number of details on the upcoming free expansion, Revelation, including both the test and release dates, the announcement of a new developer PvP event, and also brings word that the cleaned up version of the Kitchen Sink patch will go live next week.

Revelation will hit test servers next week, with plans for a three week test, and a release date to live servers sometime in mid-March. Sadly, the Revelation website isn't available yet, but according to the letter it should be forthcoming, so stay tuned!

In other Champions Online news, players can look forward to a developer PvP event next Friday, February 26th, where players will go head to head with Cryptic Studios' supergroup The Cryptonauts. The event will run from 4-7PM PST.

Read more at State of the Game: Special Edition.

any talk of Revelation should really be noted with a asterik

*And this expansion only covers levels 37-40, so what is the f*ing point

I cried out on the forums about this back when it was announced as a paid expansion.  Now that it's free I'm all for it and say why not, bring it on.  What's the point?  The point is this game needs content and any bit will help even if it is just lvl's 37-40.  I would rather some free content, then no content at all.  It's a step in the right direction.  Only time will tell if they will continue to add to it as necessary (there's your asterisk).  Also, they mentioned even though they listened to the community's outcry on this one, they will not necessarily buckle in the future.  They held firm that there will be paid expansions at some point, how much content and at what price?  I don't even think they know yet.  I suspect that to keep the game alive and give people faith in purchasing a future paid expansion, Revelation better knock everyone's socks off.  I have a feeling, or at least am clinging onto hope, that this is the mindset Cryptic has right now.

I'm looking forward to the new powers sets , crafting and tier 4 powers that the xpac will introduce. I don't have a toon  high enough for the content yet.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

It was never announced officially as a paid expansion.  Personally, I think Daeke jumped the gun and got fired for it- whether it was intended that it be paid or it was still in discussions.  And I think that if it was intended to be paid, he wouldn't have been fired unless he was going against their policy.  And- here's the biggest kicker- I don't think that he would have gone against the company policy for the gamers.  Because in the end, he's a person that needs a job, and in this environment to get fired over something so silly?  No one in their right mind is going to take that chance.

It was suppose to be a paid expansion. Daeke cleared it up on the forums and later it was stated that we do listen to our customers and we have changed our minds and made it a free expansion.

"We’ve had continuous discussions for many weeks regarding the Revelation expansion and how it should be delivered to our community. I am very glad to announce that while we built Revelation to the quality and expectations of a paid expansion pack, we are making it available for FREE to our players."  quoted from State of the Game Feb. 9, 2010

Well that would be the first time they listened to anyone but themselves. All through beta they never listened to their testers and are paying for it. When a beta dev team puts more focus on testing Twitter in-game link content rather than fixing bugs and fixing the mission system among other problems CO has, that should speak volumes about where their head is...

I really hate to sound overly cynic, but I wonder if there will be any players left when it goes life?

Funny, didn't this game release a couple months ago? An expansion already?

*Not really an expansion since 'zero' + 'zero' is still ZERO

I'm just curious to see how expansive the expansion really is....3 levels of content isn't a whole lot....

This expansion is more like content that should have been in the original game to start with. I wouldn't call it an expansion.

"long-overdue-content-update" is more like it :).

I also wonder who will be left to play it, or even people re-subscribing for it? I have my doubts.

Yeah, but it's long overdue content they wanted to charge some amount of money for.  If it isn't very significant, I can't see how people would not still be a bit annoyed with Cryptic, regardless if it eventually became free.

I'm sure there are loyalists to the game, as well as lifetime subscribers, that will be thrilled to have it and I hope they enjoy it.

My 6 mo sub has yet to expire so I will be giving it a go round.  Still a fun game to pick up and play on occasion.  It is definately a casual friendly game for someone with not a whole lot of time to put into an MMO.

Do not get me wrong.  It is still lacking.....  Just a nice distraction from the lack of ANYTHING with substance right now.
