I suppose I wouldn't be against things like portable banks and those group features (I still think they're lame!) put in for a probationary period to try them out. They're the kind of thing that wether used or not wouldn't break the game or really change it that much in my opinion. Just I read alot of that thread and start thinking it looks more like AoC than Darkfall, and if I wanted that I'd still be playing AoC!
Portable banks would definitely be too much. In a game that places so much of it's identity on full loot and significant travel times it would be a disaster. A bank that you build, with a significant quantity of resources, for a siege would be as far as it should ever go. As you say even that should be given a through trial before becoming a permanent feature.
From a purely technical standpoint being able to pop up a bank just anywhere anytime would probably place an insupportable load on the servers. People would drop them everywhere just to cause the servers to lag.

I agree with a few things but 99% of it is just ridiculous in my opinion and much just contradicts itself and one change defeats the purpose of another. For example this thread moans about empty cities and lack of PvP then later asks for bindkicking to be nerfed so that clans can't counter attack raids. Well what do you want? Am I the only one scratching his head thinking "WTF?"? I really don't get it, you want to stop attackers using an enemy bank which I would agree to trying out. But then have a spawnable bank so that they can do a zerg attack on the city? Seems kind of lame to me and pointless. Except that the suggested changes to teleport mechanics in the so called "community expansion" sounds good to me (the part forcing localization of conflicts and ground control) and craftable gameplay items not depending on loot luck.
And also some small changes suggested there but the "community suggestions" fail in my opinion ..the real expansion has to be different then that.
- for example health leech mechanic..if something like that would be implemented then as weapon attribute for example in new weapon class and it would be tied to new weapon smithing skill, then it would make sense to have a specialization for melee to use those weapons if they loose access to other weapons as penalty -

Okay, thanks....just making sure I didnt miss anything...not really a nerf in my eyes. I took mage killer and since I hunt in packs and have a sword, neither aquatic or jump were important to me at all.

There are melee weapons also and magic, it's not as if archery is the only method of combat against a mage in bone firing AoEs. I find it best to close the distance and melee them, they're usualy in poor armour and I can take them if I can stay close.

I have a large problem with the so called archery fixes. After the last patch there are a great deal of mobs at my level that are totally and completly useless against anything other than melee or elemental magic.
So for the past several months i have been working like mad to become a mage becuase archery is pretty much useless for just about anything other than lower level mobs.
Now with the archery fixes, I can look forward to never using my elemental magics ever again accross the board.

That statement is not entirely true. It was based off a test group of players ( much like this one ). I have no idea if SOE published what they were planning to propose in this much detail, but I would guess not, since many have said it was a ninja patch.

The point is that I can probably get a few good hits on you before you close the gap but due to the fact that archery isn't as powerful as it could be, there's no point. You should just go straight melee.
I disagree, a few good shots can = 60 HPs easily before I close distance and we engage in melee. That's a pretty good start for you getting a 60 hp head start? And against someone in bone ...
My point is one weapon alone isn't always enough.

How about doing something like the ability to have different arrow types? Elemental arrows? Black powder arrows (explosive head)? Iron arrows (hit harder but short range)? Maybe introduce crossbows?

I think adding some skills for archery, much like melee will help balance it out. But right now archery is just for taking out mounts usually. It's ok in big groups, but alone it's useless.

I have a large problem with the so called archery fixes. After the last patch there are a great deal of mobs at my level that are totally and completly useless against anything other than melee or elemental magic.
So for the past several months i have been working like mad to become a mage becuase archery is pretty much useless for just about anything other than lower level mobs.
Now with the archery fixes, I can look forward to never using my elemental magics ever again accross the board.

Yes I guess I am a selfish player, looking out for what I think is best for me in Darkfall and shunning that which I believe will detract from my game. Is that any different to anyone else that has posted in this thread so far?

That statement is not entirely true. It was based off a test group of players ( much like this one ). I have no idea if SOE published what they were planning to propose in this much detail, but I would guess not, since many have said it was a ninja patch.

In spite of that, I`ll fight you in every stat/skill thread. I play Darkfall and PVP every day with my casual vet char. I strongly belive the slow grind is the reason Darkfall isn`t a success as a mmo. And yes, I confess to my blood simmering when players defend the grind.

How are archers nerfed badly?
For one, we can only choose aquatic or jump shot. So either way we're fucked. If we're planted on the ground all the time, mage aoe fucks us up but having aquatic shot, to me, is a must.
And mage killer or mage hunter simply don't give enough perks to warrant no elemental magic. Their damage is far too low.
And don't be cocky Agricola you know nothing about me or my skill.

There are melee weapons also and magic, it's not as if archery is the only method of combat against a mage in bone firing AoEs. I find it best to close the distance and melee them, they're usualy in poor armour and I can take them if I can stay close.

The point is that I can probably get a few good hits on you before you close the gap but due to the fact that archery isn't as powerful as it could be, there's no point. You should just go straight melee.
I disagree, a few good shots can = 60 HPs easily before I close distance and we engage in melee. That's a pretty good start for you getting a 60 hp head start? And against someone in bone ...
My point is one weapon alone isn't always enough.
Nothing beats archery for taking down mounts in my opinion, great for killing harder mobs and aqua shot is the bane of all water loggers. It's just another option in your arsenal.

I realize, but one could go straight melee or magic and still do really well. If I went straight archery, I would less viable in combat. My point is, each of these combat skills should have a leg to stand on their own. Right now, archery feels like a utility rather than an extremely viable skill in pvp.

I agree with that but would also say the same for magic though magic is obviosly far more versatile (many uses besides attacks). I agree melee is the most viable of the three as a combat skill but you still need to have a ranged skill to be viable, without archery you can't tkae down mounts so easily and water loggers will escape. Archery gives no splash damage which can be useful when supporting a friend who is in melee combat with the target.
How about doing something like the ability to have different arrow types? Elemental arrows? Black powder arrows (explosive head)? Iron arrows (hit harder but short range)? Maybe introduce crossbows?
I think there are far better options than simply upping damage on archery since it's pretty decent already.

I think adding some skills for archery, much like melee will help balance it out. But right now archery is just for taking out mounts usually. It's ok in big groups, but alone it's useless.
