Sorry all,
I try just about every game that comes out. I had been waiting for STO for a long while. I was lucky enough to get into Beta.
well.....
I didn't buy this game.
It's ok, but that's it... sorry... I know there are fans of it, but it just seemed..well..un-inspiring. I really wanted to like this game, but I just didn't.. It didn't click for me. Seemed bland..un emotional. Hard to get into it for any length of time. The reason we all play these games is to immerse ourselves into that fictional world and leave the real one behind for a while. I could not do that with this one. It was just cold. Can't really put my finger on it...like I said..just didn't click for me.
Once they announced lifetime memberships, that raised a red flag in my head... so I opted not to buy it. (please no arguements over what the lifetime membership means).. I know what it means for me and that's all that counts in my decision.
This is the one game I have been waiting forever on and it's the only game I have never bought.... and yes I wasted my money on some of the other garbage out there... not saying STO is garbage...just ..I don't know..didin't "Rev" my MMO motor.
Just a little insight.... I am looking at so many game boxes stored away ..paid thousands of dollars for all these titles..looks like a mini library... and all of the ones I consider failure left me saying.. "This game has so much potential".. If you are saying that a month into launch, then odds are it will be a failure or let down for you. Think of the other games you have enjoyed.. did you say it has so much potential, and that potential was realized ? something to ponder I suppose...
Enjoy the game all
Think I'll go play me some EQ..nah..EQII..nah..Lineage..nah...Matrix..nah..LoTR..nah..DDO..nah..TR..nah..Auto Assault..lol nah..Vanguard..nah..SWG..nah...CoH..nah..Wow..nah...Conan..nah..Pirates..nah...Warhammer..nah...Aion..nah.. Global Agenda..maybe..but I think the content is not there so far...still kinda fun for a bit, but may get repetitive very quickly.

not a lot of new MMOs out that are willing to take a risk and do something new, or even a MMO with halfway decent endgame
You're right on STO, it's junk
Question for you...
Do you just burn through MMO's doing the kill task or do get involved with the communities at all? If you are just a kill task hero, you are never going to "find" an MMO you like.
Its because with the market so saturated with games, we as gamers expect alot more out of new titles. Problem is, only so much can go in a release. Then the company has a "30?" day window to impress everyone before subs start falling off so quickly.
I wasn't looking forward to STO but I did try the open beta... my issue is being spoiled by Eve in terms of epicness... STO's ezmode makes me sick.
I suppose it depends on the game. Usually the communities are the best part of a game..but sometimes I just like to zone out and grind. Guess I want the best of both worlds.. I'll give a game several months of my time... If I'm not looking forward to playing it after work..it gets shelved if something new and shiny comes along. Hard to find a game these days to keep my focus... I want to look up from the game and go "oh crap..I've been playing that long".
Maybe I am just a burned out MMO junkie ?? hmmm....that would be lame..what will I do with my free time... Nooooooooo!!!!

I feel your pain. I finally shut off all my subs and dug out the xbox360. I am gonna try my luck at FF XIII for a while...
The garbageness of STO does seem to push me out of the mmo game-play arena too for a bit. Not only is it a horrible, contentless, boring mmorpg, its nothing more than a shallow rudimentary thrid-person shooter.
So i went to my action side to take a break and picked up BF Bad Company 2 yesterday, and having a blast.
but it just seemed..well..un-inspiring. I really wanted to like this game, but I just didn't.. It didn't click for me. Seemed bland..un emotional.
The word 'soulless' came to my mind when playing the beta.
If World of Darkness fails I'm taking up Tai Chi.
I agree, even though i bought STo, I'm nearly to the last rank as it is, less then 21 days, personally, wwith some games like Eve and Anarchy Online, and, along with SWG pre-cu, that long and ardous journey to get to the last skill point was well and worth the wait, but, this game has no such appeal.
As for Eve, even though tyrannis has been announced, i don't believe its going to add that WOW affect for ppl, after all, Eve is nearly 7 years old, and, all they do, is add more small, whoopee affects, nothing, that is innovative, let alone, going to bring an extra 100k subbies to the game. not even the planetary combat will help, as its geared more to console, but, that will soon fall to the wayside, as ppl will want to do that to on their PCs.
Even though CCP will resist at first, it will be inevitable that they will unlock PC planetary Combat. After all, it will be what the players will want and pay for.
I've been playing STO since headstart, so 3 weeks. While the initial immersiveness of STO wore off, meaning I know better now than to read every exploration and patrol mission quest, since they're just the same handful of objectives with just different races involved, I am more committed to STO than ever before.
The Episodes, which you get about 1-2 per grade are about an hour long each and are fun. Kind of like LoTRO's Books. These Episodes generally get me to about 1/2 - 2/3 of the way to the next Grade. Then I perform the Patrol this Sector mission, which shouldn't be confused with the repeatable Exploration and Defend the Sector missions, which gets me closer to the next grade. Finally, to push me to the next grade, so I can do that grades episodes at the grade level they're meant for, I perform some exploration missions, usually about a half hours worth, which grants me Badges, which can be turned in for gear.
So the system I've gotten used to (do episodes, do patrol mission, do exploration quest or PvP until next grade) works for me. I also team up with others for the majority of this, which isn't needed, of course.
While the episodes are entertaining, the combat is what really keeps me playing. The ship combat is a lot of fun, and no fight really is exactly the same. The game does have its problems, as does every MMO at release and many months or even years after, but STO is a fun game, which is all that matters to me.
Does it have staying power, like the classics? From my point-of-view, no. However, for $50 it is worth my money. Instead of spending $120/wk for single player games this month, I instead spend $50 total for the month and $15 for next month, since STO will likely last me well into the second month.
