Why I hate World of Warcraft

You kids werent there at the beginning. Those of us who had just left FFXI or EQ looking for a new world crash landed in the World of Warcraft. We found ourselves levelling as fast as we could in this new quest and solo environment trying to work out this new instanced dungeon bull. So we played WoW. We played it hard. And then, PvP. We were so deathly sick of strat and all that PvP was a godsend. We had massive battles in open zones and I massacred anyone as the high damaging pally. Then came the nerfings. We ALL got nerfed. We got nerfed so hard the die hards left and the newbies kept on coming. Sooner or later though we all came back. We all gave the game another shot in its newfound equal world. But after everything is said and done. After I went to vanguard, then to eq2, then back to ffxi, and eq, I still have this void left in me. I still feel like I have unfinished business in WoW. I played it years ago, I did all the raids, I master Onyxia with ten man groups. But yet still, with these expansions, I still feel I need to play. But I say nay. I hate WoW. I miss the butterfly in the stomach feeling you get from a new world. I miss the way EQ and FFXI and early WoW made us feel. Thats not there anymore in new games. Its all a grind. Its all a carrot and stick scam. Please FFIV, treat us right. Bring back that feeling of a new world. Make us feel like the first natives that discovered Hawaii. Make us feel like Ponce De Leon hitting the new world. No more of the same bull. I want new. And because of that I vow never to return to WoW.

Never take life too seriously youre never gonna make it out alive.

Hey Rover, its a video game. You didn't just get dumped by your girlfriend. Go back to the drawing board and try to find a new, unique, and interesting reason to leave WoW.

It's a fun game.  Play it or don't.

No reason to hate on it if you feel most of the game is good, but overall it fails to give you that "exploring a new world" fix.  Not everything has to be Hate or Love Extremism.  You can simply write it off as a great game that no longer gives you enough fun to be worth it anymore.

I'm glad WoW was your first game and all and you loved it back then........ but it was a carrot on a stick scam back then, no more than it is today. The games that have come out post-WoW have just followed suit.

You just got burnt out on WoW. No reason to glorify the old days as if it was some magical mystical place that was the greatest thing to come out since sliced bread. The game hasn't changed much and what has changed, imho has been for the better. I think it's great that you had fun pointlessly raiding other cities and stuff.......... but it was completely pointless. But, you know it was obviously your first game and you didn't know any better. It's ok.

And if I'm not mistaken. The first MAJOR nerfing came in the patch launched a week before Battlegrounds launched. So, why did it take you 6 or 7yrs to finally quit?

    Just wondering.

Lets give WoW a chance now. Lets try to find some good points about WoW.

    1. Grinding??? Hmm even Blizz made it easy for players with 10 lvl 8o toons to start just one more all you have to do is start up a secund account play them both at the same time and you grind those lvls real fast. Oh wait sounds to me Blizz just found another way to get more money from you this way... Hmm OK well so much for this point OK lets go to point number.....

    2. New virtual pets you can buy with real money. Cool?? Hmmm well let me see on top of paying your subscription now you can pay extra money to be cool and part of the in crowd. I guess so much for this point how bout point number....

    3. A new patch ever other week leading up to the new expansion. Cool now you can actually Kill the Lich King or um almost you can and fight all those ninja looters for that T10 gear on top of that Blizz is hoping once you get your gear after doing that 25 man raid 100 times you be willing to spend more money on the new expansion. Hmmm I seeing a theme here. Its all bout how much money you give to Blizz You know what I just realize I hate WoW now also so long WoW and good riddance.

    Lets here it for TOR!!!!

Okay, time for a sarcastic response *cracks knuckles*:

Why I hate posts like these:

You obviously have just recently left the game meaning that you have not only stayed through the entire lifespan of BC but most of the lifespan of WotLK. Hell, you may even still be playing. You're just a fanboy of WoW who feels that you need to complain because something changed in your favorite MMO, but we all know you'll just go back to the game anyways because you don't know any better.

    Just saying.

I quit WoW years ago when the level cap was still 60. Played briefly during Burning Crusade but didnt feel like doing the raiding they already announced another exp by the time I was max level. No Im just hating on WoW because I saw a mention of it in the movie Zombieland and dont feel it deserves a mention. Its funny someone on here mentioned it was a carrot and stick back in the day. It wasnt. The same person on the same post mentions how we used to 'uselessly' raid other cities. Why was it useless? Because we didnt get any gear from it? My god I led a raid on Undercity with 100's of players and it was almost as much of an adrenaline rush as catching a 40lb bull mahi on an old school wood trolling bait the size of my forearm. But I guess because I didnt keep that fish...it was pointless too huh? They really have you trained huh. Purpose in life is not to gain things, but experiences. MMO's have veered from that. Granted experiences dont sell subscriptions as much as greed...but itll sell them.

Yes it was, it was a gear grind back then just like it is a gear grind today. Don't even kid yourself.

Why was it pointless? What was the point? Not that you didn't get gear, you didn't get ANYTHING, Nothing, not even a flag that said "hey we were here" because WoW was an absolutely completely static world back then. There was no point to raiding cities, the only reason you had a good time was because it was new and because of people like me who came from games where PVP actually mattered and it was before we realized it didn't do anything. Even today, WoW's PVP doesn't matter, it's just a Mini-Game. If it was so great and so wonderful and such an adrenaline rush, then they wouldn't have had to add in special mounts of raiding the other faction's cities so people would actually do it. Even with the special mounts, it hardly happens.

I really can't see how you got an adrenaline rush from that, especially if you're a deep sea fisherman that you claim to be. You died, you respawned, you died again. A never ending circle of pointlessness. You're glorifying something that was worse than it is today.

Well see I disagree with your last point. They didnt have to add in all the extra content to the pvp. I thought the free world pvp for no real return other than fun was the best way. I think being stuck in those battle grounds game after game ruined the pvp. And yea you died a lot but I got lots of kills. I butchered the horde, and then when I played horde I butchered the alliance. I dont think you should have to have any sort of real gain from stuff like that. I missed my giant raiding parties when I was running around warsong gulch getting pally trained.

Oh and another reason why I didnt like the battle grounds and the pvp rep gear is because it made it feel like a job. I felt like it was work grinding through, finding good teammates, winning as much as possible, playing for months. The world pvp sucked at times. When you zoned in and there were 30 dudes waiting for you and took you down instantly yea it sucked. When they outnumbered you 15:1 and were geared when your few friendlies stank it sucked. But at least with an open system like that there is room for evolution. Who knows what wouldve come of pvp had they not added battlegrounds. City raiding might have evolved to an art and was a constant. Zone raiding, raid ambushing....I remember ambushing at molten core entrance with a bad elite crew. That crap was fun. But seemed to dissappear with the bg's.

So... to sum up... you don't like the game because:

    1.  You got nerfed,

    2.  You ran out of stuff to explore,

    3.  You don't think Blizz should have added more PvP content, because you think that if they didn't, everyone would be doing more world PvP, and

    4.  You have the mistaken idea that the game is more of a grind now than it was in vanilla days... which is definitely not the case, due to a) battleground epics, b) no quest requirements for tier pieces, c) badge gear, d) increased rate of XP at lower levels

Also, you think the game doesn't deserve a mention in pop culture because, in spite of it's record-breaking success and popularity, you don't like it.

How am I doing?  Pretty close?

It's fine to not like the game, but just admit you got burned out rather than blaming the game... especially when you make invalid claims like #4

Lol, I was about to say the exact same thing. That being said. FFXI sucked and I jumped the sinking ship, too, when WoW was released; which is a coincidence because I just said that in another thread when this one popped up out of nowhere.

Odd. Sounds like you love WoW. I guarantee you played it longer than I did, and I've never started a thread to join the masses of MMORPG.COM sheep in bashing WoW.

I'm seriously sick to death of seeing 100 threads a day of WoW bashing. They ironic part is the people doing the bashing played the game for years.

I feel the exact same way. You want to know the truth? The HONEST to <insert diety> truth?! People are just mad because WoW (A.K.A Crack cocaine) isn't giving them the buzz they used to get so instead of admitting they have an adiction, they bash the game and blame all their problems on the game rather than themselves.

Your experience does not mirror mine. I've always played fairly casually, took my time, and ran my own race. I feel sorry for the people who feel they always have to have the best new epic items. And even worse for those who judge others based on their gear or achievements.

I never understood how WoW is just a "carrot on a stick " game but somehow no other mmorpg before WoW was?  They all were, are and will be forever "carrot on a stick" games.  You are rewarded for achieving or reaching a goal.  They've always been that way.  Back in my EQ days, you would periodically hear a joyful /shout of "DING!" when someone lvled.  Every mmorpg is about collecting gear and raising skills/lvling, period.

Dont't try to kid yourself that your preferred mmorpg is somehow above WoW and isn't a "carrot on a stick" game.
