Dungeons, Monsters etc.... all get harder as you go up in levels, plus you can run each dungeon on a casual (old solo), normal, hard and elite settings.  To run the hardest on the elite setting would be where getting good gear comes into play.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

I disagree, if this person is willing to form an opinion on a game he has NEVER played. He does not need to download and play it. We want to keep the people who are that ignorant to the game out. He seems to have formed his opinion on hear-say. Who needs that type of player?

It's your loss bub. It is a fun game.

ok let me give you an example of your logic.

"i wonder what would happen if i were to jump off this cliff....i heard that your most likely to hit a rock at the bottom and die. hmmmm....well i've never tried it before, so i can't base my opinion on it"

you jump off only to find that, oh shit, you hit your head on a rock and die instantly.

that is YOUR way of thinking.

and seriously, you make it sound like you've never had an opinion on something you haven't tried.

First off. We are not talking about Jumping off a Cliff. That is the Dumbest comparison I have heard of. We are talking about a Game. You are talking about 2 Races that you CAN pay for, but Don't Have to. The Drow IS and ALLWAYS has been unlockable with Favor. Don't know about the Warforged characters. And you want to judge a whole game on that. That’s Ignorant.

Not to mention you get points with progression in the game. So earn enough, Buy it if you don't want to work for it. NOTHING in the shop is needed to reach your top level. Expansions are nice to have, but not necessary.

Once again, your Ignorance of the game is YOUR loss.

So you will not try it but you are voicing an opinion on its status as best F2P of the year?  Way to give it a chance.

ya, i am. and it's only an opinion, so there's no need to get upset about it.

also i heard the lvl cap is 20, that turned me off, and i also hear you can only do 80 of the 300+ quests unless you pay. so you have to buy quests, races, classes, parts of the map, and i'm guessing you have to buy upgrades for your gear and all that other item mall stuff. and THIS got the best F2P of the year. from what i hear, it sounds more like a P2P then a F2P. idk, that just doesn't excite me.

I am not upset I was simply asking a question. By voicing an opinion of a game you never tried you look less then genuine in your post. I think you misunderstand the term F2P.

no i understand what F2P is.... i just think this game is just over using the item shop.

Have you downloaded it and checked the shop yet? Or still forming opinions based on no experience?

Why does a level cap of 20 turn you off? You do not buy upgrades to your gear either.

i'm forming opinions on what you guys are telling me, and what i'm reading on the website. so unless you and the website are lying, i don't see a reason why i shouldn't. your telling me what to expect in the game, then your telling me not to base an opinion off of that and to just try it. that just doesn't make sense to me.

and i don't mind the 20 lvl cap, now that i know there's 5 ranks for each lvl. which should make it a little better. i just don't like low lvl caps.

anyways i just read that there's duel classing, which i personally don't like. but it might not be that bad. i didn't like RoMs duel class system because i had to train 2 characters and it got really boring....

Basing n opinion of the store with never seeing it makes no sense. Basing an opinion on the duel classing which is nothing like ROMs by the way as you do not have to level an entirely different class in DDO without trying it makes no sense to me.

The level 20 cap in DDO is fine, because the game does not require 100 levels to be good or fun. The 5 ranks between levels are not really mini levels, early on they feel that way but later on the good enhancements cost more AP which you get 1 per rank. The enhancements really make your character good or bad depending on how you do it.

Honestly you should just DL it and try, but from what I see in your posts DDO will not be the game for you.

i've never seen the store? are you sure? cause i could have sworn that i was looking at it when i clicked the link to the DDO store on there site....and when did i compare RoMs duel class system to DDOs? i said "anyways i just read that there's duel classing, which i personally don't like. but it might not be that bad. i didn't like RoMs duel class system because i had to train 2 characters and it got really boring...." i don't like a duel class system, period. and i wasn't comparing RoMs system to DDOs, just saying, i didn't like lvling to characters.

im fine with the lvl 20 cap, with the ranks in each lvl. sounds like it's a good idea.

also the lack of PvP is fine. not saying its bad so don't rip me a new one for that. i wasn't saying it was a bad thing that there's no real PvP, just asking what you would need the good gear for. but i didn't think about needing epic gear for elite difficulties >.< my fault.

it sounds decent, but the warforged is the race i'm dying to play as, but i need to buy them( right?)...

Yes you need to "buy" the warforged, but it doesnt actually have to cost you anything. you could try out another character for awhile and play through earning some favor which earns you credits for the shop an dthen turn around and buy the warforged without spending a cent.

To be upfront I read the first page of responses and then posted this, so there could be posts on the other pages I'm missing.

But it sounds to me like the OP is the type of free to play player that doesn't bring in money anyways. He basically said he's looking for a f2p game where you can play all the classes and all the quests for free. Because he can't do that he is turned off from DDO. Essentially he sounds like the type of player who will literally never pay a dollar towards a f2p title.

Unfortunatly for him for f2p games to make money the items in the shop need to either be necessary or extremely important. Quests/races are those types of items.

ya i'll do that. i REALLY want the warforged class. they look awesome. i can live without the drow.

you nailed (most of) it. although i will put some money into it if it's something i really enjoy. but the first time i heard you had to pay for some races and classes i was like "wtf?". just seemed kinda weird to me because i've never seen anything like it before...

  • godzilr1godzilr1 Member UncommonPosts: 550

even though he is looking for a F2P game, i believe if you sign up for the standard 1 month, you automatically get 1500 points in their store anyway.  So you get F2P one month check it out, then sign up for a month, spend the points as you see fit, quit the subscription part and you keep everything you've unlocked, and continue to be F2P.

The thing with the races is you get human, dorf, elf and halfing.  you have to pay/unlock the warforged and drow.  As far as classes go you get standard fighter, paladin, ranger, cleric, thief, wizard, sorcerer free.  you have to pay for favored soul and monk.  Dual classing is optional and you can mix and match up to 3 classes i think.

Even if oyu are remotley curious, it's F2P.  just download it check it out for a few hours.  you don't have much to loose but the time and by your own admission you re pretty bored :)

DDO allows you to actually have 3 classes, boy you will hate that too. Like I said you have a certain mindset and honestly I no longer care to try and educate about the game. Please go play a F2P that caters to people who are likely never to spend a dime.

Do me a favor though if you DL the game stay off Cannith. I dont want to read your whines in general chat 5 minutes after you start.

The items are optional and YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY THEM.  Some of these items can also be unlocked in game by just playing it and earning favor . Personally, I've been playing for a tad over two months and I'm enjoying it greatly. The only thing I bought is the monk class, which made me a premium subscriber and also unlocked two more character slots on each server, and I'm also planning on buying a few more items WHICH ISNT MUCH

Personally, I think the game is well worth the price(free) and is worth a dl. If you don't like it, it's an easy matter to delete it

races that have to be bought are warfoged and drow(which has to be unlocked if u sub)

class is the monk(don't think there are any others)

and the content is basically what they sell in the ddo store, it's a pay as you go kind of thing

and you don't have to pay them anything you get 25 store points per 100 favour you earn doing ingame quests.  Plenty of ppl seem happy enough to try and farm all the points they want although i'd recommend paying maybe $5 a month or less

and fyi lvl cap is 20 for everyone with each lvl being split into 5 ranks, so you have to achieve 5 ranks before each lvl.  There are also very little stat altering stuff in the store only really a few shortcuts for low lvls

Actually, you can earn the Drow, Favored Soul and 32 pt builds in game. The Warforged and the Monk, and some adventure packs has to be bought but they're optional, not required. You do get in game money for playing so you actually don't have to pay a dime for anything

oh i see. thats nice to know. idk, maybe ill try it sometime. is the tank class free?

dude...you act like there is only one class you can choose from. lemme run this by you if your still looking at this thread. this will help others with the same mentallay as you.

Ok you have: Wizard, socroer, barbarian, cleric, paladin, ranger, bard, fighter, and rouge for free. you have races: Human,Dwarf,Elf,and Halfling free. the payd classes are: Favored soul (which IMO kinda suck),Monk(high ac(armor class) fun to use still kinda suck by its self), then paid races: Drow Elf (gr8 for being a rouge or mage and cool skin colors XD), Warforged (one of the most overpowered underpowered races in the game. they are resistant to holding spells and i believe negative lvl spells as well, poison and sickness too. but suffer many handicaps such as: a cap in wizdom and so on. not only that but clerics cant heal them well(the take only half of the clerics heal unless they have the enhancement thagt allows them to absorb more. a wizzy has to heal them for them to get full heal.) not only do you get all that. but you can Mulity class any of those classes as long as the alignment is sufeciant ie. barbs can only be neutral to chaotic, paladins must be lawful. the quests will keep you busy for hours, days, even months. plus 1000s of different armor/wep combos such as a +1 frost flame touched long sword of pure good. the amount of armor and accories are just outstanding. better than any p2p or f2p out there. not even WOW has this much.

so do research before you go running your mouth about how "You have to pay so much money"

oh and btw you cant rank up your armor in this game so no need for item mall enhancements or lvling stone or w/e you actuly get alot of ingredeaints in the game but at a higher lvl for stuff like green steel.

oh and those paid races/jobs can be obtaind buy getting "Favor" which is ezpz to get.

One more hting. there is no "Tank class" you have to make him a tank or a dps(Damage per second)

and fyi lvl cap is 20 for everyone with each lvl being split into 5 ranks, so you have to achieve 5 ranks before each lvl.  There are also very little stat altering stuff in the store only really a few shortcuts for low lvls

oh i see. thats nice to know. idk, maybe ill try it sometime. is the tank class free?

dude...you act like there is only one class you can choose from. lemme run this by you if your still looking at this thread. this will help others with the same mentallay as you.

I must disagree on FVS. I have mine to 20 and he seriously kills my old cleric. FVS can be awesome.

AT ALL. and you can't count putting + on your gear lmao. if you do, then even a crappy game has a good amount of gear.

Every class and race is Unlockable, except Warforged Class. Iy has been that way since Day 1. You unlock them by gaining Favor.  Why they locked Warforged is beyond me. The cllass is strong, but most don't want them in a party unless they heal themself. Just because you CAN unlock them at the Store, Doesn't meen you HAVE to Buy them to get them. Not to mention, you get store credits for progressing in the Game.

First of all. no one was going off at you. second you sound like you assume there is no classes to choose from so i clarafied that. 3rd you have no right commenting on the community since you wont just DL the game then stfu and see for your self. stop putting a game down before you even DL it. second yes you can count that cuz not all the wepons are +1 and the same. as i said before there is tons of item combos. almost no wep. is the same accpet for the rare named items, you would know this if you played it.

it sounds to me like you just want to put this game down insted of asking questions, then you reinforce my theories with stuff like "oh if this is how the community is gonna be then i dont want to be a part of it" dude stfu and play it like normal ppl do if you dont like it uninstall it. stop posting on this thread and we will all be happy.

btw now i kinda went off on you cuz i h8 undermiming ppl like you.

And again. there is no tank class. but if you want a tank make a fighter not a barb and select the fighters path.

Definitely try this game out.  This is coming from someone who has uninstalled it too lol (ill touch on that too. my reasons were personal and not just judged on the merits of the game).  The game for F2P is very good.  Graphics are nicely done, the detail of the world is fabulous.  The one thing to note this is a dungeon running based game.  That is the majority of your quests, however there is an overworld as well with its own quests as well, though not as fun or thought provoking as dungeons.  Dungeons i guess are the true hallmark of this game and something you wont find in other f2p games.  Traps, strategy and time is whats needed to complete alot of dungeons, which i have not found fully in all the f2p games ive tried, and ive tried many.  The classes you can choose from are more then enough to satisfy your tank/mage/healing etc needs.   Although the warforged and drow and monk classes intrigued me im a healer so i didnt need to worry about grinding favor to get them.

The community was really good for me, i had met a very polite player who wanted to accompany me on a dungeon quest, even though we were noobs and still died, we had fun and realized our mistakes and moved on.  None of that "you friggin noob, wtf are you doing idiot" etc etc.  Something i have encountered in all the other f2p games ive played.  Getting help was easy, though learning the terms that people said to me took awhile to grasp.

About the dual classing,.  Well i cant say much since i didnt toy with it alot.  I wanted to be a strict healer but realized i would need to throw something else in there if i was to solo my dungeons, but definitely not mandatory.

This game infact is more free to play then the many i have played, where being a cash shopper is almost mandatory to get what you want from your toon.  Not once did i say to myself "damn im gonna need to buy (insert cash item here) if im going to do that".  Everything i needed was provided with drops and quest rewards, which is plenty...gear, pots, weps, special enhancing pots.....anything, which to me was satisfying.

The reason i uninstalled:  It was a bit outta my league honestly.  The game to me was a bit overwhelming to my basic mmo needs.  The character progression (stats and so forth), the terms, roles of classes/dual classes etc.  It was a bit too much for me, but i can see the allure of it all to the more dedicated players.  They could make their class to what they wanted very intricately and not have to honestly spend a dime to do so if they put forth some effort.  Also the game was based IMO on a heavy group setting to get the full benefit of a dungeon, which im all for but i do enjoy soloing alot and want the choice to do so most of the time without missing out on the good stuff.  These are all personal reasons that i do not hold against the game.  The game itself is brilliant and very intricate to satisfy those more "hardcore" (for lack of a better term) mmo players.   It doesnt hurt to at least download it and see if it fits your tastes, and even if it doesnt you need to at least experience it to see what other f2p mmos are missing.
