GW question for those in the know...

darquenbladedarquenblade Member Posts: 1,015

Hey all,

For those that know, how much variety is there in character creation? And once in-game, is there decent variety in clothing/armor? The reason I ask is that in the screenshots, the weapons/equipment/clothing all look absolutely great, but even that would probably get old if everyone looked the same =)

Also, what is the death penalty like in the game? Is it the same for both PvE and PvP?

Thanks in advance

In terms of looks, alot of characters look fairly similar. There are various differences in weapons and armour (although at this point there isnt a ton of different types of armour). But skill wise, theres an almost inifinte number of possibilities. Theres dozens of skills per class and when you combine all the classes in different ways, and your limited to 8 skills (and assigning poitns to your attributes) you have a HUGE amount of variety. Hope this helps.

Deaht penalty is pretty much non extitant. At this point PVP is all for fun so you lose nothing. You do gain fame though. And in Guild vs Guild you are assigned poitns for winning/losing so that is a huge incentive to win.

Thanks for the info, Orcc. Although I haven't had a chance to play it yet, the game looks beautiful. I'm just kind of hoping that they'll throw in plenty of different armor sets to wear, so that not everyone is guaranteed to look the same.

That's one of the little things that bothers me about WoW right now--everyone at a similar level to yourself is dressed exactly the same =)

there are probabally 5 differen't faces to chose from and skin tone and hair styles/color. The characters are all human. you start off with the same armor so a lot of people look the same, but the armour is differnt for every class, so in the beginning only a warrior will have the same armor as me. Later on you craft your own armor and chose what you want. But in the game as far as i can tell everyone looks similar, but everyone holds different items, and over all the differences are noticable not to get sick off.

The death penalty is 15% every time you die. So if i have a max health of 200 and i die once, now my max health is 175. if you die again it's another 15% so it can get steep if your not looking after your character. Over time the percentage decreases by one %. you can how ever just leave the quest and before you start it again it will be back to normal.

    I don't really want to be a "math police/gay" but isn't 15% of 200, 30?

Anyway, if you have 200 in max health and you die on a mission and die once you will get 15% death penelty, that means you loose 30health, and IF you will be rez by some good guy in your team, you will have a max health of 170 instead...

(in exploring/quests, if you die you will start from the outpost again)

yeah -15% death penalty per death - it caps at -60% penalty, which is harsh enough because you take about 4 hits are you're toast after that....

your death penalty gets reduced based on kills. For every kill you make the penalty drops a percent - and it can be really hard to have to fight your way back from -60%, because even if you get 10 kills, and die - you're back down again. I guess the moral here is to try your best to have a balanced group - if your group is built right, you'll have no, or few problems. A well played monk is sometimes hard to find, but very valuable when you do.

There are 4 or 5 basic sets for each class, and as you go along you find crafters who can make higher quality sets. Each set has slightly different properties, but none is strictly more powerful than the others. Some trade base armor for elemental resistance or physical resistance, some give you a lower base energy boost but more protection, etc. So each one has advantages in different situations and strategies.

But it's definitely not a linear progression thing where every warrior is trying to get the BoneDingus Helm of Earwax Cleansing or whatever. And since there's only 4-5 types for each class they put in a lot of work on the details. They look awesome.

I agree. Each set is amazingly detailed and usually far different from the previous available sets.

However personally I hope that by release they will have more then the 4 sets available per city. I think they will as there are tons of craft items that are not implemented as of yetimage

i didnt find the variety of faces and hairstyles very large.i liked how u could change ur body mass and how different classes look different.but ull prolly see alot of similar faces.armor also helps distinguish.but at first alot of ppl have prettymmuch the same armor if they just started

Personally, i dont see the problem with this, if ur having a crave for diversity in your char, go pick up some cartoon game, the diversity for me is ur skills, what you going to use, its easy to know who your character is.

Its obvious how good this game is when someone has to nit pick on the color or shape of the nose or w/e and the color of the eyes and eye brows, well to me if its not noticable by me whys it matter.

Think of it this way, your not running twowards some charr looking to see if u have a zit or if ur make up is all good, lol i mean come on, be more specific in bigger things.

Example - Quests, Armor Customization, Bugs, Pets Armor, Skills, Attributes.

    I Voted No.... ^Theres My Reason^
