I noticed this too. I went to Wal-mart the other day to buy Champion's Online and they didn't have it. The only MMORPGs they had were Aion and WoW.. But that's not saying much.. Wal-mart has the worst selection of games ever, but being from Kentucky, I don't have any other options except for ordering online.
I can't remember the last time I went to a store for a PC game, or even looked at one in a store.
I only play games I can digitally download, I have a nice fast connection and I'm too lazy to deal with traffic and wander through a store when I want to play something. I want to click download, watch some TV and then hop in when it's done.
The only thing I get in physical form is Xbox 360 games because they haven't put the major games as downloadable yet. But hopefully one day that will change.

I'm the same way. I REFUSE to do Digital Download. If I can't have a boxed copy, it isn't worth my time. I like my pretty boxes!

Its an online game, if the company 'goes belly up' you won't be able to play their games anyways, I fail to see the point. Furthermore, login = signing the EULA, it states plain as day that if the company wishes to terminate the service they can do so and owe you nothing, you pay for an ongoing service, once they decide to stop servicing you they simply do not charge you anymore.
I can understand the wish to physically own a box, merchandise, guide etc. but not trusting digital downloads ? They want you to pay a subscription, fraud at the initial stage is ridiculous. Besides, its no different then patching your client every time a new patch comes up, there is no meaningful difference between downloading only the latest part of the game or the whole thing.

I wouldn't blame them. PC gamers are increasingly turning to digital download (Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, etc) instead of buying boxed copies from stores. Back in the day it wasn't a problem, when Steam and the likes weren't as polished or effective, but they started gaining momentum and now retail is chopping PC from the shelves.
Because there is more money in console games so that is what they stock a lot of.
This is probably it right here. The GameStop near me has just 1 small rack of PC Games of all kinds, though I did notice a full display of STO boxes.
The GameStop on the Air Force base near me doesn't carry any PC Games but the Exchange has 1 1/2 ailes worth (which might be why GameStop doesn't). Of course the Exchange still has about 10 DDO Boxes too. Haven't the heart to tell them it's F2P now and the boxes are worth less than the paper they're printed on. LOL!

When he mentioned the company going "belly up," I'm pretty SURE that he meant like Direct2Drive, Steam, and similar 3rd party retailers. He didn't MEAN the company that makes the game and runs the servers you play on.
If I misunderstood him, I'm sure he'll correct me, but I think YOU misunderstood what he meant.
Biplex has made my point for me. I think that it is pretty wasteful of MMOs to produce discs that are completely unnecessary considering gameplay. I never purchased a disc to play my MMO.

Good God, Final Fantasy XI is in the top twenty three times over. As much as I like it, I did not expect that.

Most mmo's will never see the shelf in big box stores because the stores charge an arm and a leg to put them on their shelves.
