According to an announcement released by NCsoft today, Guild Wars is finally getting the novel treatment. Ghosts of Ascalon, which is being written by acclaimed authors Jeff Grubb and Matt Forbeck, will be the first novel based on the Guild Wars IP, and will serve to bridge the 250 year gap between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.
A brief description of the novel is available below:
Scheduled for release in North America and Europe in the summer of 2010, Ghosts of Ascalon takes place in the dangerous land of Tyria, the setting of Guild Wars. A mismatched band of adventurers, each plagued by ghosts from their pasts, journeys into the haunted, war-torn kingdom of Ascalon to retrieve a sacred relic that holds the promise of peace between humanity and their ancestral enemies, the savage charr. But not everyone wants peace, and the undead king who rules Ascalon won’t give it up easily!

Have fun storming the castle! - Miracle Max
Should be an interesting read, I am really curious about what exactly happens between the games lore-wise, I just hope it gets respected as an official lore source when GW2 comes.
What a wonderfully classical way of closing a gap between two very story driven games.
I would think most games might just shove a video at the beginning of the second game to vaguely establish continuity.
Here we have literary Guild Wars using their imagination to make the whole story arc solid, entertaining and in-depth.
I am sure after reading the "second instalment" playing the third will be even more intriguing than the first.
I love reading and I love games with plot and I love it even more when their quests make me feel part of it.
I didn't think Guild Wars could get much better, I was wrong.
the novels will be canon

I've been waiting for the novels for ages. I really enjoyed the short story in the Prophecies manual.
Stoked!
I'm not really a fan of game novels but I might give this book a read.
Definitely getting me a copy. It should be a good read.
