Alien ZX Spectrum

Ok, this not an mmorpg but a co-worker asked me about my most "immersive" game and I went for this old classic.

You controlled little stick men named Ripley, Brett, Dallas etc from the movie. One was randomly chosen as the evil corporate android and you never knew which until it attacked you for attacking the alien. You had crap weapons in short supply: a cheesy stun-prod, a couple of crap customized flame-throwers that couldnt kill the alien, and, erm, a net.

You did have two low-range motion trackers, but Jones the cat was loose and could trigger false alarms. The aim was to flush the alien out of the airlock, but usually you were down to 3 or less crew and opted for a quick dash for the three-man escape pod.

Typical game...reduced to 2 crew after the alien attacked near the pod and then...your final co-member turned out to be the android, ouch and blast it. But hey, maybe Jones survived!

I lost myself for months and months in this game. Do you have the same memory? Bedroom curtains firmly closed while the sun blazed outside and the "normal" kids played football or some such gash outside. Ah, my mispent youth!

And now I am so bored with the current mmorpgs and the current single player games. If I was born five minutes ago I would probably swear by some other game like Left4Dead 2 or Dragon Age or WOW or Darkfall et al, but all that is solid now melts  into air.

Maybe I am getting old. The old days seem so much warmer.

Time to fire up the old ZX on the emulator and go old-school with Alien, yipee.

Regards

I never really liked Alien, but I have similar memories of plently of other Speccy games. For immersion, 3D Ant Attack was hard to beat, it really had a perfect atmosphere about it.

Gawd, you've made me all nostalgic and I'm remembering all the classics now.
