This is really the only forum I visit... well I go over to the VnBoards now and again but that's besides the point.  I really don't play much anymore.  I load up a single player game now and again but no mmos.  I've found other things to do and I have no doubt you will to.  However unlike you, I don't see a reason to leave this place... yet.  I come to the Off Topic section and wax about nonsense and kill a half hour maybe a little more reading some responses and posting and then I go and do other stuff.

Best if luck, in any case.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Yep...I hear both of you on this.  I still play WoW with friends, but it is basically just going through the actions and staying cyber social otherwise I am off doing other things.    I am thinking of designing a lighter than air craft like a blimp and then just floating around the world and seeing places.  LOL!   I know it sounds weird...but I think it is my calling.   I will travel across Africa, Antartica, the Artic, Mongolia, Japan, South America, Australia...just traveling taking pictures.    Who knows...I wish I could get off this stinking rock we're on and go see Mars, Saturn, the moons of Jupiter.

I wish we could come up with a faster than light ship that could travel the stars.   I'd be gone in an instant.   ::sigh::

Are you quitting MMO's or gaming in general. There have been some really great games that have come out. I myself really enjoyed playing Mass Effect 2. Since your wife plays WOW, you might wanna buy the Warcraft sets and play through them, there actually alot of fun and it will give you something to chit chat about with your wife.

I've been having the same problem with MMO's. I'm playing Aion for 4 days right now and I'm enjoying it, i'll let you know if it's a keeper or not in about a week or two.

If you ever realize your dream and actually get off the ground and decide to pick a few people to bring along.... PICK ME !!! PICK ME!!!

Well when you've been gaming long enough it's difficult to keep interested in games, particularly new games. You've basically 'seen it all', well that's what it's like for me. Games have to be pretty damn amazing and/or innovative to be able to hold my attention now. I just don't know whether it's me or if the industry in general is becoming too bland, and I'm not just talking about MMOs.

Are you looking at more games that you wouldn't play, than playing games you wish you hadn't played?

Are you reviewing more games than you're reading reviews of?

If you can honestly say you pick up a few new releases a month, despite any prejudices you have towards them, and you simply can't get into them...then yeah you probably aren't able to enjoy them anymore for whatever reason.

But if you're picking up games that you haven't already read a 20 page forum post about it, followed through a year of press releases, watched the 10 minute gametrailers reviews of, read dozens of metacritic reviews for, and did the same for the 5 other games they're all supposedly like; then preconceived notions will most definitely ruin a game for you.

If I think back to a lot of my favorite games in the past, I had no opportunity to establish such prejudices. A lot of my favorites I never would've tried. A lot of things I liked most about my favorite games reviewers and peers hated most.

I myself found that being in the 'know' does more harm than good if the opinions of others color your own too much, which we're all susceptible to. The 'good' of reviews and such is supposed to be that we never waste our money on a game that isn't what we believe it is, but for me, I found myself searching for nothing except 'perfect' and total consensus that something is good amongst peers. Anything less was trash. That comes with being able to scrutinize games to the level we can nowadays without even so much as playing a demo.

I used to feel like you but the one thing I got tired of more than gaming, was being tired of being tired of gaming.

As much as I think I liked UO, I would not prefer to play UO today over Aion, so why have I been waiting for a UO 2 for 10 years? Yeah, I'd probably play a UO 2 over Aion if it was as I envision it, but in the meantime it makes no sense for me to think Aion is less than UO when I know damn well I wouldn't play UO again.

Same goes for console games. Xenogears may be my favorite JRPG of all time, but faced with Tales of Vesperia or Xenogears, I'm going to play Tales of Vesperia. Yeah, I'd probably prefer a Xenogears 2 (or Xenosaga 6 it'd be I guess) to Tales of Vesperia, but that's no reason for me to pretend like Xenogears is presently the superior experience to Tales of Vesperia simply because I'd prefer an imagined sequel.

I'm rambling, but we all have our trappings. Be it overexposure to games without ever picking them up, or having unjust expectations towards them. If you're tired of gaming, there's a reason. Find that reason and be rid of it.

Ask not what games can do for you to become more enjoyable, ask what you can do for games to find them more enjoyable.

Good points Sepher, I especially like the comments on knowledge damaging the enjoyment of a game. I tried playing UO, for a bit. I found it to be a good game, but it just wasn't for me. I'm not saying that Aion is better, i'm just trying it out.

I do know that there are several MMO's that are coming out that could be fun to play. I think i'll make a point of not reading any reviews or look at trailers.....just like in the good old days where I'd walk into EB Games and spend 20 mintues going through the new PC selections and selecting from what i read off the box. I found that strategy worked better lol.

Aw... I am also actually getting tired of the game i play... I just log on nowadays to talk with friends just sit in town.. too bored to do anything now. I came to this site to look for good game ideas. sad to hear that your giving up your gaming career. kinda disheartening to find a fellow gamer lacking the will to play his game.  just want to say in your thread that im getting there also and your not alone.

Thanks for the comments ppawn, although I'm not giving up gaming. I've been gaming since I was 3, literally! I'm just very frustrated with the lack of quality of there in the new MMO universe. There are a tone of good games that I'm getting into now. I find it always helps to stop playing online games and get back into console and PC RPG's and games that have deep story lines.

I think I'll do that for the next little bit and see what happens, maybe you should try the same...?
