First off i love STO it has a few flaws and lack of content (which just about evrey game had when it launched)  but maybee its just me but it seems like the only things people say in these forums is i hate "xxx" mmo because . . . .

looking at the whole picture the "majority" of those in the forums who hate "xxx" are far from the majority who play "xxx"  i know this will probibly be flamed and first I'd like to note that I'm writing this from  school not my gaming pc if I was at home I'd be playing STO

I pretty much agree...Aside from the NGE, I've backed just about every MMO I've Played...LOTRO, Vanguard, EQII, AoC...I gave them all 9.0 Ratings or higher...lol...I'm an MMO nerd...I LOVE most Games...

But this STO...Man...I could not bring Myself to Log in after a few days...Then I tried a few more times and it was just such a bore...At least I still liked a lot about SWG, especially before the NGE...Not much for me to like about STO at all...

I have to agree with the original post. MMORPG is turning into a hate forum. If there is a game that they don't like and don't want to play then they feel they must spread the MMORPG gospel of hate and propaganda to turn everyone else against the game. I found EVE, one of the most popular games on this forum very tedious, slow and boring. Does that make it a horrible game? No, it's just not the game for me. I wouldn't even go about saying it's a bad game, it's just one I didn't enjoy but that doesn't mean others won't enjoy it.

Not everyone has all the time in the world to get into games such as EVE, EQ2 and even WOW. STO is great game casual MMO where you can PVP, PVE, solo or group and players are not penalized for not having tons of time to grind for equipment or the luxury to adjust their time schedules just to play an MMO.

Maybe if MMORPG.com & the market in general would get their shit together to stop advertising non MMORPG games as such, we would have less vermins in our niche genre & a more healthy forum... But its not the case & money is stronger than ethic now a days. Go figure...

its the same at every new release. You get SOME decent critique and then a ton of useless complaints, you know it aint wow, it aint realistic, no full loot etc, then you get a ton of hate from a hand full of posters. You'll find that one or two names crop up dozens of times saying the same thing.

As I have said before, this forum is no longer for the fans of the genre, it's a place to get flamed and hate on games. If this was a public bar, you'd look inside the door and the music and chatter would stop and you would turn around and walk away before the locals turn ugly.

Yep.. it's all about the money..  The more games that are listed, the more important the site looks.. The more viewers to the site, the more ads and hits you get..  So from a pure capitalist point of view, lets paint what defines a MMO with a brush as big as a truck.. :)

I don't think that's right at all.  There hasn't been a decent MMORPG in a long time, that's why people dislike the games coming out recently.  Evolution is happening in the single player games market but very little footing is occuring in mmo games.  I assume it's because developers are unwilling/unable to grasp want the people want or they just can't deliver.

I think it's a breath of fresh air coming to the forums and not thinking 'am I the only one who think this is poor' where as this site and most reviews say 'yeah it's not bad just needs a bit of content and it'll be suddenly wonderful'.

We demand better, that's why people complain...It's 2010 but this game has the same or less features WoW had when it launched.  It's really a shame, but I still look foward to Star Wars, hopefully that will be worth picking up.

I'm glad some people find some form of enjoyment when playing, I don't want to take that away from them, but in turn, don't complain that we don't like the game. Hopefully it'll encourage developers to understand what most of us want and deliver it (someday!).

thats the problem. You and other that post like you do think that they are speaking for a majority of the market, but you aren't. If you have been playing MMO's for years then its natural not to get the same thrill, because as a GENRE they share common things.

Nothing wrong with change or people complaining but some posters think they know exactly what needs to be done, made and have the self important view that if they dont like it then the game MUST be awful and must fail.

Well I honestly think the word "hate" is way overused tbh. I don't see that many people saying they "hate" the game. I just see people saying that it's a bad game, or that it can't keep them entertained for more than a week.

I wouldn't really call that hate.

OP, cool you like it. Don't worry about the so called haters. Have fun with it, although I think you are just enabling money grubbing devs that want to release half made games to see how much they can profit.
Honestly tho, just keep playing and don't worry about it. I don't think there are any individuals anywhere that actually HATE the game tho. I think thats a huge exaggeration.

This right here is one of the haters.  By definition of the term MMORPG, STO fits the bill regardless of personal feelings.  It is both MMO and RPG.

Not sensitive...just pointing out to the uneducated that said statement if false in decrying STO as an MMORPG when by all accounts it fits the bill of what an MMORPG is.  It is a social game where you are roleplaying a captain in the Star Trek universe.  That's all a game needs to be considered an MMORPG.  It doesn't need crafting or orcs or group-mandatory content (even though it's getting that).  A lot of the staples in games that people think of as MMORPG are just features and not MMORPG defining.

Like I said not being sensitive just pointing out someone's fault.  And if said poster is basing this off of a certain mmorpg.com blog just remember that it was a blog based off of someone's opinion.  But regardless every game I see advertised has been in one way or another a MMORPG.

Again though... How is saying that it not an MMORPG considered "Hate"?

Could you expound on that? I was just curious.

It's not about hate. It's just that "Hate" (Being a relative term, here) is just a louder voice than anything else.

I mean, honestly. Do you go to your best friend and say: "I love you, man. You know that, right? We've been through some great times together. I just love hanging with you. I want to keep hanging with you"

    Sounds pretty.. Weird.

But it's always ok to hate on someone. "Dang, man. You're a fool. Why did you have to go and do something as stupid as that? Jeez. If we wasn't bros, I'd kick your butt from here to fifth street."

Is ok, because men can't express their feelings easily. It's why the world should be ran by women.

Well, in the context you are using the word "Hate" it seems like it is being reduced down to just a simple street jab, more like a "dislike" or an insult.

If this is the case and the way the word "Hate" is being used, why are people getting so upset about it?

You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either the word "Hate" is some kind of horribly insulting brutal attack as the OP suggests, or it is just a simple thuggy put-down. Which is it?

Seems to me people just want to use the word to their advantage (OP and others) to dramatize the criticism of this game. And I don't think many can argue that it hasn't really gotten stellar reviews. So are you bothered by the "HATE" or just feel personally insulted that it's a game that you like and can't stand the fact that it seems like more people don't like it...

Personally, I'm glad there are people expressing their dislike of it, so that more people don't get suckered in to paying 50 dollars for it. I believe that just enables game designers like Cryptic to continue producing half made, empty games and profiting.

In which case, I'd say "keep on playin' "  errr  payin'

That's exactly how I feel. I think it started turning into a hate forum when the NGE happened, but others who have been here longer might be able to point to an earlier time. Most of the games that are talked of with fondness I wouldn't touch with a 40 foot pole. But I don't go onto their forums telling those players how boring their games are or how I wish they were different. That's just rude.

It's really amazing how non-inclusive a lot of these people are. They talk about wanting  games that foster community yet many of them are the most elitist snobs I've ever seen on the net. The one thing that is good about it is you never have to worry about meeting them in game.

I would disagree with that statement as I see the game as full on content with many choices which make each captain different.  As the game is quick to get into and a boatload of fun, i don't see Cryptic as profitateering off a a half made empty game.  I quess it really does come down to ones tastes in the end.  Unfortunately there are too many people that are offended when a game is made that isn't up to their specifications and than degrade any who dare to like it in its present form!

However when a half a dozen professional MMO game reviewers do not agree with you.. In fact when NO review gives it the high scores that fans and cryptic wish for, maybe it's them that are wrong, and not all the naysayers.. People review and critique products and service our entire lives.. I love consumer reports along with other publications that tend to give me a heads up warning.. A Yugo owner may believe in his heart that he owns the best thing since sliced bread, however the rest of the world knows he owns a cheap piece of sh*t.. That doesn't mean that Yugo owner can't enjoy his car, but don't try to sell it as the new BMW convertable..

If you dont want to have angry people; Dont make them pay full price for a crap product.

Or; How much "hate" is Mass Effect 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, etc, receiving?

Bottom line is; STO is, sadly, crap.

in a couple of months we'll see if the majority dont hate it like the op says but something tells me this game have a very small population a year from now.

plenty of people said WAR complainers were a small minority and most people are enjoying the game and we all now how that turned out and tbh war had a hell of a lot more to do than this game.
