I miss this game only for its looks and its sound.  No other reason, the gameplay to me kinda sucked, unless you were a trader, but then you neededa jenqui buddy or your trades took forever.

    Game play I give a 6/10
    Sound I give 8/10
Graphics I give 9/10 - nothing deserves perfect.

    www.egosoft.com X2:The threat

Check it out.Good game in the same vein as E and B.A online version is being developed as well.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

I think that its a wise marketing choice for people to sell off their discontinued assets, but it doesn't seem to be too popular. Like if all thee old games released their source (even for a modest liscensing fee) I'm sure someone would take advantage.

I personally thought E&B sucked horribly.  What a painful demo experience that was.

The game died because it sucked.  Get over it.

I've never played it, but I'll vote yes just for you.

And may I be the first to recommend you: Play EVE.

Earth & Beyond was my first MMOG so I have fond memories of it.

EA should sell the code (for cheap) to a few groups of small time developers to see who can bring that game up to its full potential. I am sure people would play it if it had regular expansions with new territory to conquer and SETTLE with a monthly cost of around $7.00 per month.

  • leipurileipuri Member Posts: 559
They wount sell the code for sure. EA is sort of company that doesn't like competion even though they failed with E&B themself. They dont want new game companies to gaming industry.

I dont care if it was single player, cause really it was a massivly multiplayer online SINGLE player game, at least how i played it

And I was in Sci-fi ecstasy the whole way.

Just make a single player patch and resell the game gosh darnit

  • ShaikuraShaikura Member Posts: 61

It was my first mmo too.And yeah i miss it alot.EA should be shot for not aleast trying to sell the code to a company that would bring that game to new heights. They have ego's the size of kansas. It would make them look stupid if someone did a better job with it than they did.

I do play Eve online now only because there's nothing else out there close to e&b.And its good but not as fun to play.If you could have a actual character to walk around in the stations and lounge abit,It would be a better game but all you have is a potrait.

EA sucks, what a waste to have e&b just sitting in a vault.Thats just dumb.I have not bought an EA game since.

Just regged here to make a reply.

E&B was a GREAT game, teamwork and co op and still a singel game.

Agree it could have been better, but i liked the non player agression rule but still benifit from team work to bring bigger mob's down.

I playd E&B since beta to death almost.

I jumped to EVE (played 1 year now)that are very none singel player game, a get into a huge company and grease some asses and ask for acces to better areas or dont and never get acces to low sec areas.Player pirates and the devastation  loss of ship(hopefully insured) made you to be so damm calm and carfull you stopped enyoing the action.

    Well i give E&B 9/10 and EVE 6/10

I play X2 now and really miss my old corp buddies from E&B and EVE.

    B t w i give X2 5/10.

I have less time to play now and i belive a solo play mmorpg like E&B is better for people who don't play around the clock.

Well i just Hope E&B comes back in anyway or a look alike game appears in near future.....

    Worf out.................image

     Play EvE Online !!!!

    Or play TDZK instead !!!

Or play SWG!!! (They finally released their space expansion now!)

    image

Or play Freelancer (though it's really a Stand Alone game, with an online feature. Simular to Diablo 2.)

I can understand your desire to have E&B back ( although I left E&B for EVE beta ::::02:: and have been there ever since ) But what I think you should be looking for is a new game that has what you liked about E&B not trying to resurrect a dead duck like E&B.

One of the games I'm keeping my eyes on is SEED:THC (need some new news btw rune...) but there is very little in the way of good new Sci-Fi mmorpgs to look forward too atm.

Oh man, you just had to mention EnB. Dang, I miss that game too, despite it's flaws and poor treatment by EA that was a game I won't forget. I would love to see it come back and be fixed. If they were able to get the right people back from Westwood who created it then maybe it would have a chance. Damn Electronic Arts, Damn them too heck. EnB was a game with a lot of potential that was never realized. I don't think EnB will come back. I'd sure like to see a game similar to it though. Nothing else out there really comes close.

I was not fond of EB, it was ok but had its defecets. But I do agree with you, your first mmorpg is forever instilled into your brain as great. And somehow everyone after falls short. I still have thoughts of playing UO again.

I'd like to have a moment of silence for enb....and for everyones first mmorpg for that matter

EnB was a beautiful game. I think one of its best qualities was it just pulled you in and you became extremely immersed into it. Space stations, the planets, just the overall environment. It was kind of like a Foundation Online. :P

EvE is great, but for me it lacks the immersion that EnB had. EvE doesnt have that space adventurer feel, where you have your own ship and you can get out and trade in space stations. People who played EnB know what im talking about.

Can't believe EnB was shut down though. The next best choice is Eve, and only because that's the best space mmorpg out right now.

E&B has been a wonderful experience for me. A fully-fleshed out world, with compelling history, cultures, stories, visuals, sound, and music, Earth and Beyond has provided enough sci-fi space opera to keep my attention. Its only fault is the lack of content at the middle-to-high end game. Since its termination by EA, I've dabbled with EVE and Star Wars Galaxies, but they don't measure up to the fun and color of E&B. If only Funcom absorbed Westwood Studios instead of EA...

Oh well, I still have fond memories of my Jenquai Defender...

I also miss EnB terribly. It has the best story and character development of any MMO out then or now.

  • DyrttDyrtt Member Posts: 422

I miss E&B too. it was a great game. It was alot more accessable than Eve. It's kinds like the (irritating) comparisons you see of WoW and EQ2 these days. Both are great but E&B was more casual player friendly in that it didn't take forever to get anything done.

I'm no EA basher or anything (I will happily buy EA products whenever they are worth a crap) but I agree with what someone said earlier; EA will almost certainly never sell E&B as they are a company that doesn't like competition.

E&B really was a very good game, despite some deficiencies.  I would give Eve the overall edge, by a small margin, but E&B felt much more alive, and the ships were fun, as opposed to looking like a bunch of spare parts slapped together.  And being able to get off your ship even a little was a big plus.

If only someone would take the best parts of E&B and Eve and combine them.

  • naldynaldy Member Posts: 26

I'm not a big fan of sci-fi, but it would be nice to have a Buck Rodgers-type of game (in 3D MMORPG style of course). Being able to fight ship-to-ship, explore planets, raise all sorts of skills are things that appeal to me very much (and a lot of MMORPGs offer this).

Or how about a Shadowrun-type of MMORPG? That would rule!

It may sound like a little thing, but that is my problem with eve.You just have a potrait and can't get out your ship and checkout the space stations.Every npc or player is just a potrait. That just makes the game so cold and lonely to me.Sure you have chat, but it would be better if you could have face to face contact like every other mmorpg out there.
