Back in WoW so my Medevil Fix is being taken care of.
Was watching down periscope(u know the comedy with kelsy grammer)
anyhoo i am looking for a simulation game. Basically i like where your flying a space ship and when you battle it's not about just armor and shields, but you gotta have your subsystems put back online(kinda a more advanced starfleet command 3 or a Real good game was Terminus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminus_(2000_video_game)
so thats what i basically am lookin for. Something like Terminus.
*gets us from computer desk . . .where did i put that CD

Dang, guess nobody knows of one. Well how about a Sub sim game? i downloaded danger from the deep, but it wouldn't play on my comp for some reason(i just got a red screen, i heard the music and stuff, but i just had a red screen)

Try EVE online, has that more to it approach than simply arming guns etc...
Very strategic game-play for an MMO, not to mention the economy, crafting, mining/trading and hauling.

maybe starquest aswell but have never tried it myself so can't say for certain
Oolite is nice

You'll love eve but if you want more of a sim as in you control the spaceship and shoot things manually then maybe wait for jumpgate evolution.
If you want Space Simulation, EVE is the closest you're going to get.
You're not going to manually firing weapons and flying a ship moving at those speeds trying to hit things at those distances. Hell, there haven't even been any aerial dog fights since WWII, because planes move too fast. It's like trying to hit a fly with a BB gun at 100meters.

I played Eve for a Long time(look up Darquies)
I been to Eve and my biggest gripes is the time based skilling system, and the Nerfs over the years(Was HEAVY into Missles, then Nerf, switched to Ewar then Nerf.)
I still play Eve once in a bluemoon, but i doubt i'll come back. This is just me being scitzo but everytime i renew my membership to Eve Real Life Crap hits. the last time I was playing Eve a newtowrk access terminal was destroyed(or whatever it was called) and my internet provider, tried to say it was my computer's fault that it blew up. WTF!!! well after a month of fighting with them(and coincidently a week afer i canceled EVE online from Dial up) the internet provider finally found the log file, and gave me a year's worth of Free Cable internet.
So unless they introduce a hybrid Static/time-based skill training(and for heaven's Sake do not mention implants) most likely not gonna come back
btw the first time I played eve online, my power pack shorted out. Right b4 i was going to switch a lvl 3 skill.
I really think EVE O doesn't like me
(*looks over shoulder) Really don'tthink.

Yup- the time based skill system is horrible since it's impossible to catch up. I always hoped they started a new server and didnt allow transfers to allow newcomers a chance- But thats a pipe dream.
wait for jumpgate evolution or black prophecy to come out
there's also vendetta or jumpgate think they are both more space shooters than ship command style games, though not entirely sure about vendetta
darkspace, which is a not very good version of starfleet command and one you really aren't likely to ever catch those that play because of the death penalty
also someone has an earth and beyond emulator up, which is free while it's being tested
for single player games the battlecruiser series is now free and may offer what u are looking for. If you'r a bab5 fan there's one called babylon 5 i've found her
added this one separately incase it needs to be removed
starfleet command 3 can be found on the odd abandonware site
Yea Jumpgate was my first MMO. but what i didn't like was the fact it's all about just shooting and stuff, nothing breaks down until your dead. then . . .well your dead, riding your lifepod back to the station. And vendetta online I've tried twice, when it first came out, and about a year ago. Still couldn't get into a Space shooter that's A LOT like Jumpgate except for the fact that VO doesn't use shields. . . A Space sim without Shields?? Anyhoo. I DID find my CD of Terminus and I'm playing it when WoW is Slow(basically use the dungeon finder and if it's more than 10 miutes, i'll play on Terminus for a while)
What I Really Wish was that they took Starfleet command 3 and made it into a MMO. Yea i still Have SFC3 installed on my comp, and currently twiddle around with the generations at war mod. but considering the game has basically 10 missions that you do over and over again and in fact everything dealing with that game is basically the same thing over and over again(ship V ship fighting in all aspects) it gets pretty boring.
I mean if they would take SFC3 and added mining, transporting, and exploring aspects to it. you would have more diversity. but SFC3 was never meant to be that from the vanallia standpoint. but how you did battle was Sweet. it was what i am looking for. not like a fast paced shoot a ship till he goes boom. you had "strategy". do i take out his warpdrive(which supplies power to everything) or do i take out his engines. do i target his sensors(which makes it harder for him to hit me) or do i blast his cloaking device right when he tries to cloak. Like i said, if they had a SFC3 MMO. . . i would deffinantly be watching it(basically like i'm watching STO atm)

You sir have no clue what you are talking about, both the Korean War and Vietnam produced gun aces, plus numerous gun kills. I'll list Vietnam sidewinder kills seperate since they were a little more forgiving than going for gun kills, but the pricipile remains the same - having to manuver into a certain position and distance aft of your target and hope you get the hit before the target does something to defeat your setup or shot.
If you'd like to read about just one; look up Cunninghams & Driscolls (US Navy) F-4 dogfight where they became aces.
SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter
You're correct about Vendetta Online, it is just a shooter style vice command game. Full Pvp, 3 factions (4 if you count pirates). A tight community and numerous patches over the past year. A unique feature is you can fly your ship in either flight assist mode (drive it like a car) or real space mode (fly backwards etc...)
I'd say it's still at the labour of love phase vice full blown, big company marketing hype, but it's got a free trial and is well worth checking it out.
If you want a total spce sim, then the B5 SPG is what you want as it only has real space flight, plus weapons overheating, having to punch up the different comm channels and everything.

To Protect The Helpless From The Heartless
Yes, it's full name is Babylon 5: I've Found Her
Here you go. This will take you to the home page where the links are. You can get it for both Win or Apple.
www.ifhgame.ru
The guy that wrote the original program is Russian but others have moded it and the site lists the other missions you can add on to the base game.
It's been OK'd by JMS so there's some sound bites etc.... from the old shows in it, plus the guy put together a bunch of voice actors so it's full VO, so when you get a comm call from Red 5 it's ..... the guy with the Brit accent or a girl's voice. Really makes it seem like you're with a bunch of different people vice just seeing words scroll across the screen.
I'm not sure if it's MP or not, never paid that much attention to that part. The sites safe but as always DL it to a seperate area and then Virus scan it. I think you can also find it on FilePlanet but it's been awhile since I DL it (2 computers ago).
Enjoy

Have you tried X: Beyond the Frontier, X2 or X3?
I was in eve for over 3 years and missiles have always been decent. Missiles work BETTER now then years ago.
Nerfs and balance fixes happen in EVERY MMO. I repeat
Nerfs and balance fixes happen in EVERY MMO
The "Jump to Lightspeed" side of Star Wars Galaxies is also a decent space game. It's FPS/sim type with many cool options. You can even fly a milinium falcon and have friends join you as gunners.
Starport Galactic Empires is another game worth looking at its F2P. www.starportgame.com/
The Battlecruiser Series which is heavily recommended for the original games use DOSBOX and this link is to the developers site www.3000ad.com/
While there aren't really any Space Sim MMO's out there right now (that I'm aware of at least... Well, aside from EVE).
For single player games, the three that I can think of (well, two are related) are X3, X3: Terran Conflict, and Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
The X3 games are pretty straightforward Space Sims, pretty much the spiritual successors to Privateer.
Nexus is more of a space based strategy game somewhat reminiscent of Homeworld but with much smaller fleets (you only ever have a few ships under your control at any given time). Also reminds me a bit of Bridge Commander in that the ships behave like the lumbering behemoths they are.
That is all.

Omg, I was off by 20yrs on something that was over 40 years ago!
Looked it up btw. They shot down MiG-17s, which aren't supersonic jets. My point still stands.

Missles work better?
(ok gonna do a Really short review)
"Cold War expansion" one of the biggest changes was the way how missles affected smaller ships etc. Before: a cruise or Torp basically obliterated a Frigate and maimed a cruiser. After: A cruise or Torp scratches a frig and does descent, not significant damage to a cruiser. How is that better?(mind u this expansion came out Years ago, but i be.lieve the basic premise still stands, well it stood when i last played the game less than 6 months ago)
"Calli expansion" eletronic warefare moduals had thier power of effectivness cut in half. they said that they would boost the ships and skills so that the dedicated "E-War player" would be able to compensate. well i hate to tell ya, with skills all at 5 that dealt with ewar modual effective power increase, your looking at 40% give or take 5% increase. of course your gonna spend 4+ months(actual time) getting all those skills to 5.
Now about the missles. It was worse than WoW's Hunter class before the WoW hunter nerf. everybody and thier brother in Eve-o was a missle char(slight exaggeration)
And about the Ewar mods. everybody and thier brother(again slight exaggeration) had the multi-spec modual on thier pvp ship.
I understand that Every MMO has nerfs, heck it's a business and they do it for balancing and also when they want to keep playerbase interested(seriously, i'm not joking there) But the fact that EVE is totally time based, those skills and training time. . . . well i think u understand where i'm coming from.
It's not like in WoW if my 70 tree healer descides to start using Polearms, i can get that skill up here in no time. With Eve online going from skill lvl 1 to skill lvl 4, is gonna take anywhere from 3 days to two weeks.
Now Evile, i might have the expansion nick names mixxed, but I'm sure you know what i'm talking about(considering I started about the same time as you, if you meant that you started playing eve around 3 years ago)
(edit)
Hey skin. I own all the X-series Dang good bit of gaming there. I also own, freelancer, SFC series, bridge commander, VO, Jumpgate, some korean game that my mom got me oversees, because it has a space ship on the cover all the Wing commander series and privateer stuff(and yes there is a fix for Privateer 2, so you can play it on newer machines) Yea when it comes to space flight sims, . . . .

Arrg, the main reason i came back to this thread was to say thankyou for the link m8.
srry bout not postin that first.
Thanx again

While it's not an MMO, Freespace 2 is one of the best space sims ever made or so I am told. The community is alive and kicking and you can get the game for like 6 bucks. It's and old game, so it's not really the best looking game in the world if you can stomach it.
MMO - EVE online.
Single Player - X:3.
