I cant find a MMO that doesnt bore me after one month

GeschaeferGeschaefer Member Posts: 117

The last game that held my attention was SWG; Pre-NGE.

I cant find a single game worth sticking with longer than one month. And i only play them for a month becasue im bored to begin with.

Ive played LOTRO; Vanguard: Aion: WAR; EQ1; EQ2; WOW; Tabula Rasa; Hellgate London; STO; to name a few..

Is it just me?

Do i have MMO Attention deficit disorder ?

Can none of these gaming companies find the strength to create and maintain a difficult and intelligent game with all sorts of content ?

Every time I leave a game I go right back to MF-ing with my blizz sorc on Diablo II.

Any advice for trying out a new game ?

Played: EQ1. EQ2. FFXI. SWG. Aion. WAR. LOTRO. TabulaRasa. Hellgate London. Diablo 1. Diablo II. Diablo 3. STO. WOW. Vanguard. Guild Wars. Rift. Terra. The Secret World. EVE. Guild Wars 2. Firefall. Neverwinter.

WAR, EQ2, WoW all bored me within a month too. They're just too simple and easy so it gets boring fast when you get set in your number combo you push to win every fight you're in. Push 3 1 4 2 3 5 3 2 fight over, next.

Seeing how you still play Diablo II you seem to be more ok with older graphics. I would suggest trying Asheron's Call, it's over a decade old at this point so the graphics are older and that seems to be the main hurdle for people playing it.

It is very different from most of the MMOs out there at this point, there's lots of variations in everything and it takes skill and strategy. The arrows and magic spells use physics so you get to pay attention and physically move your character out of the way to not be hit (unlike WoW with the auto magic tracking missiles).

So if you don't mind playing with older graphics, sign up for the trial at trial.ac.turbine.com and have a blast.

Also this weekend is a 150% quest xp weekend, so it's a handy time to start leveling a character.

I can't possibly know about you.  However, I do find many gamers these days are expecting the wrong things in a MMO.

MMO is basically a game except with other players to interact with.  However, players always look for something "perfect" for a lack of a better word.  Even if a game is good, in player's eyes it is not good enough as long as it does not fit their tastes completely.  This is why we have alot of players calling games total crap only because of graphic, art direction, animation, or one core system, etc.

It only takes one aspect of a game to not fit someone's taste to be considered bad, but for a game to be considered good it more or less would have to fulfill almost all requirements.  Except for the few games that came out at the right time with the luxury of giving this "brand new" feeling.

In an industry where one game is developed to suit the taste of hundreds of thousands of people or more, the type of mentality players exhibit are just utter non-sense.

As much as I do agree developers need to start trying harder, but nothing is going to work at this rate with the state of player mentality as it stands.

I couldn't disagree with that entire post more. The real problem is that all new MMOs over the past couple years target exactly one type of gamer, which is different from the type of gamer the original MMOs targetted. As such all of those original MMO gamers are very disconnected with the genre now and find all new MMOs boring and over-simplified.

The fact that every new game is trying to target the same gamers isn't helping either. You do have indie companies coming in and trying to target a different type of gamer here and there (DF, FE, even EvE started as a small little company), but they usually both don't get the coverage or the credit for doing something different (even if it doesn't work out). Instead all the focus goes to the new clones that come out like WAR and Aion.

As such there are plenty of gamers that find the current state of the genre boring. Don't blame the gamers, blame the companies where it belongs. It's not that there are thousands of people who all are blind and can't see that the genre is great, it's that there are thousands of gamers who see that the genre is stale and stagnant and they don't enjoy the style of games being made.

you tried all these MMOs but haven't tried eve online?

i have also tried most of the MMOs out there, and whenever a new one comes out i buy it and play it to the end. normally doesn't take more then a month

but for years i have been playing eve online. its designed as a game to keep you playing for years, not as a game that ends after a month when you reach your end lvl...there is no end lvl in eve.

now i am not gonna write here why eve will keep you playing for years, you might already know the game. if you don't, and are interested, let me know, and ill write you a short summary why its a good game and why it keeps you playing for years.

here is a short trailer about 0.0 conflicts over space (ingame graphics, but at higher resolution to make it look better)

    and another

    have fun

There's nothing at all wrong with not liking any of the MMOs currently out there.Just means no one has made an MMO that sutis your tastes just find some other genre and keep an eye on things, try new MMO's when they come out(Trial them at least not buy) and hopefully one will come out that caters for your specific tastes or close enough to.

OP, you need a dose of Darkfall!

Good timing, too....they just started offering a 7 day trial.

Trust me, man.....I had the same problem. After old SWG, nothing held up for more than a month or two....until Darkfall.

Give it a shot, man. I think you'll find just what you're looking for.

    I also couldnt disagree more.

Im a pretty open minded guy. And I do feel that instead of creating a broad playstyle MMO; most gaming companies are relying on Niche markets and pre established movie / television show fan based game creations.

It seems that every game out here is either niche market; strictly pvp; strictly pve; movie / show based; or plain and smply just too easy to play.

You say that todays gamer looses interest if one particular thing doesnt suit their gaming needs ?

well let me be the forst to tell you that if i found a game that I only had ONE problem with.... I would be signing a lifetime gaming contract.

I would be happy as a pig in poop if I could find a game that I only had 5 discrepancies with.

I simply just want a intelligent, difficult game incoporated with all sorts of gameplay.. IE; Solo, Groulp, raid. PVP & PVE.

When I say difficult I mean xp loss. not xp penalty.

One of the most frustrating things ever is learning that half way through a group quest, you find out that your groups healer is a 7 year old kid who suddenly doesnt want to be "friends" with you all any more and leaves you all stranded with 4 hours of game play wasted.

Games should be set up so that bad players can NEVER make it to high levels.

Thats why i like Diablio II Hard core mode.

I'm going to chime in here and agree - Darkfall is the 1st MMO since SWG to completely hold my interest. The new $1 trial is a perfect opportunity to see for yourself...1 week is really not enough time, but at least you can get a glimpse of it before you buy.

Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

If you do have a deficit disorder, then so do I. I am having the same problem. Although, I did play Eq1 for years, until they messed it up. You can now just buy your way thru most of it. In the beginning quest were difficult, and challenging, both to find, and finish.

I agree, they are just too easy. If you do find one that is challenging, and fun, please let me know. I will do the same for you.

Im just like you i just get bored wandering around but my favourite games are RPGS and Sandbox games. So i decided to try Age of Conan its the only game i ever got to Max Level, did raids, get all the high tier armour, And well im from europe some might say some servers are abit to low but it depends which you go on. I went on Crom never looked back. Making a new pc so i havnt been on it in a few weeks. But cant wait and get on the expansion when its out.

Don't let the DF fanatics win you over too fast. Something to keep in mind is there is absolutely zero skill cap, so the powerful just keep getting more power, and everyone is a jack of all trades which is kinda lame. Additionally, while the game itself has improved, it's community has done nothing if not become worse over time, with childish guild leaders and alliances based solely on griefing other people being the norm.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.
