Day/Night cycles are client side... some walk around in darkness while others walk around in the day

davmac22davmac22 Member Posts: 283

Me and a friend were just playing.  I was walking around in  the dark and could not see anything, and my friend was telling me he was right next to me in the day time.  What kind of system is this?  Is it broken or is the game that buggy?

All I see these days are just a pathetic attempt to make an MMO.  This game is a huge mess.  Just wait until a hacker figures out how to change this on client side...

All I know is, I am glad I got into the open beta before I preordered it.  Me and my friend are not even going to touch this.

Currently a bug where the day/night cycles get stuck upon login.

There are no bugs, only unplanned features.

"Get stuck upon login" what does that even mean?

It's just another wonderful point to show that they are doing so much client side it's ridiculous.

This game is going to be hack central.

Day and night time cycle... which I guess "getting stuck" would mean that the cycle doesn't continue.

A stuck cycle means that, from a perspective, you constantly only see one part of it.

If you login and are seeing night, and your friend logs in and is seeing day, then chances are the someone is not synced with the server and the client believes it is the wrong time.

One of you, don't know which, probably didn't get whatever data you needed to move that cycle...

it is also probable, now that I put some thought into it, that the missing data is likely just adjusting the time on the client... Perhaps the game starts at a certain time then corrects based on what the server tells the client... I believe I saw something like this in Darkfall... I would login and the game would be bright, then it would quickly adjust to the correct time.... if it wasn't darkfall, it was another MMO... Vanguard? AoC? *shrug*

    Pure speculation on this though.

    Did you need more assistance?

Not AoC from my experience. Day-night cycle works just fine.

Just like DF and I am sure MOs fanboys will also deny hacks exist because they dont " see " them.

actually DF has pretty good detection now the only problem is radar hacks which are a lot harder to detect. (those are about the only hacks left)

If the cycle is managed entirely client-side then it's more likely to be one person's client running on a different cycle to someone elses. Some people have reported that logging in and out can switch from night to day and back again which suggests perhaps the client doesnt even take any kind of orders from the server when deciding if it's day or night, or if it does then it's broken. Either way it needs to be fixed because it's enough to give one player a significant advantage enough that they'd want to exploit such a glaring flaw.

I was dual boxing and one was day while the other was night.  Both accounts logged within seconds of each other and in same area.

well doesnt help the patch was junk and they have to redo it ..

  • pretty simple to edit the client side art pack to make sure you are always walking around with plenty of light regardless of the surrounding ambience.
