Going from a simple upgrade to a possible overhaul, little help.

Alright, been out of the loop in the computer side of things as I have spent the past 12 months in Iraq/Afghanistan. After checking numerous forums and whatnot trying to get up to speed, my thoughts of doing a simple upgrade are turning into a possible complete overhaul.

Currently running a crappy MicroATX motherboard with an E8400, Radeon 4850, and 2 Gig's of ram. Was wanting to just upgrade RAM and get Windows 7, but...... I got the itch again.

If anyone can check over the components and check for any issues or make any recommendations it would be much appreciated.

I would also be using Windows 7 64bit Home Premium, mixed thoughts on the Blue-Ray drive as I will be using a 40" LCD TV as a second monitor. Any input is greatly appreciated. And wow has it been a long time since I have posted on MMORPG.com!

The motherboard you picked does not support triple channel memory.  The Video card you chose will have similar performance as your current video card.  You should get the 64MB cache WD Caviar Black instead of the 32MB cache WD Caviar Black.  The monitor has poor picture quality and would defeat the point of a blu-ray player.

Thanks for the heads up on on the memory, anything you would recommend? I want to go greater than 4gb of RAM, might just end up purchasing four 2 gig sticks instead now that I look at it. I guess I am not overly concerned about the HDD, but will also look into it. The Blue-Ray will mainly be used on my TV as I will be using it as a second monitor.

Everything from my old sytstem that I am not using is going to be a birthday present for my little brother, he should get a kick out of the HD 4850. Thanks for the input!

    4 gigs is enough ram.

If you are into gaming, consider getting a better gfx card, radeon 5850 maybe.

There's no use for 8GB of RAM in a gaming PC. It's only useful for certain apps that can be very memory intensive, like AutoCAD. 99% of games are still 32-bit and Windows will only allow them to use 2GB of RAM, which makes 4GB the ideal amount (2GB for OS/background apps, 2GB for game)

What I would suggest is, knock $30 off the mobo:

    $30 off the PSU:

and $60 off the RAM (4GB instead of 6GB):

and put that extra $120 toward a Radeon 5850 instead of a Radeon 5770:
