Allods Online: gPotato to Release Revised Item Shop

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

The folks at gPotato have stepped up to the plate, addressing the firestorm resultant from what players felt were exorbitant prices when the Allods Online item shop was finally unveiled.

To that end, gPotato has announced that a revised item shop will be implemented sometime this week, with restructured pricing based on constructive criticism provided by players throughout the ordeal.

We also have an exclusive comment from Darren Allarde, Associate Producer of Allods Online:

“It’s been an exciting and challenging week and we’re very pleased to announce that we’re building a new item shop that will make a lot of players very happy. We wanted to take this opportunity to explicitly thank the readers of MMORPG.com for all of your feedback and support!”

We'll be interested to hear players' opinions on the revised item prices when they make their debut later this week.

View the original announcement here.

Now if they could only remove the FoD, or at least the FFA PvP Flag System. I hate to say it, but the whole FFA PvP flag system is the biggest reason I won't be revisiting Allods.

Unfortunately the game is already tainted and ruined for a lot of people. We'll see how this item mall change goes but the game is VERY dependent on buying from it.

Well, looks like I've found reason to head back.

I do hope the changes are good or else I may leave again.

Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't though. Most developer's are just ridiculously... stubborn. You'd think more devs would follow the SWG example, you know?

I mean, I understand making games as a business.. but..

where does the point of.. "maybe we should change this because we're losing all our players" really make them realize what they're doing

Please let us know how the prices are now. I don't want to be disappointed once again when I head back ;)

Of course we do. I have my money platinum plated and made into rims for my Ashton Martin. Need a lift to the bank? I'm sure I could swing a diamond encrusted jet your way.

Awww thank you my cruddy ruby jet ran out of its liquid gold fuel. I just need to pull out a few million thousand dollar bills. When you shred them they make the best pillow stuffing.

On a serious note though its to bad so many people take things in beta so harsh. I would hope that people will give this game a second chance when it tones down the item shop. All though I do think it would be very interesting if they still left that rune at 1k for one. If you could truely get tribute points over time it could be very lucrative to have multiply accounts accumulating tribute points over time to buy thoughs runes and resell them on ebay for 500 a pop. WHAT A DEAL!!!!!

Good job for showing the willingness (at least in words) to make a positive change to keep you game alive.  However, if this is a tongue in check nod of the head by reducing prices but making the FoD and Perfumes a necessity to play I will never again play a gPotato or Astrum Nival title.  It is one thing to encourage players to use a cash shop by providing beneficial items for sales that do not break the integrity of the game, but to enforce cash shop rules above the $15/month market norm by making items required to play is utterly unacceptable.  If you want a guarantee $15 a month do a sub and a cash shop for a hybrid, or else just go sub.  I expect the latter is not an option give the companies in question.  Players can get over $15 in perfume fees, but a cent more and the majority will leave.  Look to the AAA titles and organizations that know cash shops are good revenue, but realize they need to be balanced with a monthly sub to cover both play and pay styles in a more consistent revenue model.

Haha be VERY careful to trust an item mall game. You might want to pay attention to mobs after the change to see if they make killing mobs slower or more deadly. They are probably looking for some angle to paint a false impression, that they are lowering their guard, don't fall for the body shot, the right cross is coming.

I 100% agree, and that is what I was jabbing at above.  I have found that the gPotato team are really taking a negative turn here by trying to force and coerce item shop purchases.  I can see the logic from their side, but frankly being able to justify it does not make it right.  The angle is fundamentally negative and void of community focus.  Make the game compelling, sure throw in hooks to keep players invested, but don't say "hey look at this great free game," then follow it up with, "well it's not really free at all, you have to buy perfumes every day or you cannot actually play at all..and by the way they cost $50 a month."

Revising the item shop or not, even seeing the price tags was enough to make me stop for a loooooong pause and ask if any company that truly places prices like that in the public eye can ever truly be trusted, respected, or worth being involved with.  Unless I see something dramatic I will not be back to Allods or any games from the companies involved.

    fake news cast:

"gPotato has more than cut the item mall prices in HALF! Bringing the prices down to a much more reasonable cost that more people than just Bill Gates and Paris Hilton can afford!

"We've heard word from Alec Baldwin about this exciting news, 'Before, seven thousand dollars seemed a little steep. I mean, honestly, I can't keep up with Bill Gates in PvP because he's way wealthier and more popular than I am. But now that gPotato has dropped the price, I can finally stand up to old B.G. in the PvP competitions!'

"Michael J Fox sobbingly confessed 'You know, it really hurts when Paris Hilton pwns me just because her daddy is richer than mine.' followed by tears and snorting. 'I mean, I tried to pay the seven thousand dollars for the item, but my card got declined.. I, can't...' Michael broke off into a tear-filled rage and stomped out of the room after smashing his fist into his keyboard.

He wants to thank us for all our feedback and support? Doesn't he mean all the flaming and hatred? Looking forward to seeing what changes and how, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be way too little too late. They need to change a lot more than just cash shop prices IMO.

why michael j fox? he is not "that" rich  to mention it  in ur joke...i was expecting some parkinson joke or something...

back on the subject...i think  this change could be a little too late...well not too late to ruin the game but certanly the game already lots a good amount of players...and  a big chunk of it  was closed beta testers.... i think they feel the change a little "too" hard watching the game fall

LOL now that's funny, but the sad thing is that the FOD and the 2 hour time limit in the upcoming patch is here to stay, as said in the massively podcast (The producer already stated that when the Russian game get's a patch it will be only a matter of time before we get it), and its not the gpotato team who are making this game or are in control of the prices they are just the publisher's who are hosting the game it's the Russian nival and there investor's who have the final say on game mechanic's and prices. And please guy's i know we are a bit skeptic on the whole CS and i agree we should, just let's not start farting out rainbows and sunshine because of this new's because the bottom line is that we are still going to have to rely on the cs at the end of the day when it's all said and done, i mean yeah it's kool they are going to remove some 0's but at end game we are still gonna have to pony up that cash if we want to play.

I hope no one purchased anything yet... imagine if you're a fool that paid $7k and then after the revision it becomes $500. Hahaha.

Nice try, but now that everyone has seen the greed of this company, anyone with half a brain will expect some kind of bait and switch down the road.  They might lower the prices for now, maybe wait a month of two for people to invest their time and effort, growing attached to their characters, which will make quitting harder when they bring back the crazy high prices.

  • ThrawlThrawl Member Posts: 271

The game has enough polish on it to make people want to come back, myself included. But if they don't get their prices right this time around their player base is going to sink faster than the Titanic.

Hey I don't mind if they want to make a dollar on all they're efforts.  But hopefully they will take the money and buy a faster server.  The game is so glitchy I can barely play it.  I thought it was maybe just me but the forums are filled with the same complaint.  gpotato is very hit or miss with me.  My wife talked me into playing Flyff for a bit and was kinda fun.  Rappelz is just grind junk and will just wipe at any given moment.  I know its not my comp as I have played wow, lineage, anarchy online, eve, and d&d all with no problems.
