I have been thinking about doing this for a while. There are many different perspectives on this forum.
This is just a basic poll to find out where all the majority of these perspectives come from. I am sure this date will enlighten a lot of posters. Why there are spurts of negativity and positive posts. Why players like this mmo versus the other? ect.
The categories are presented this way for a reason for the types of mmos that were released between those years.
You can always judge a tree by the fruits they bare. Lets see if it holds true here.

Can't remember exactly when I started, but it was somewhere between 1999 and 2001. Good thing your poll supports that.

MMORPG's as divined by this site I started playing with Lineage II, early 2005.
Playing online and MUDs I started out before the web was here - in 1990. Using dial up connections to bulletin board systems (BBS's) and play on-line with 4-8 other players TradeWars 2001. But even in that time there was one BBS in The Netherlands that had TradeWars 2001 setup for 200 players with 200 dial-in lines. So somewhat I started playing MMO's in 1990
Well DAoC came out in 2001 and I played about as soon as it came out, so I will say 2001 maybe 2002.
Why do you ask?
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
Started with RuneScape and messed around with DAoC around 2004, went to WoW in 2007.
Lineage 1 (US version) was my first MMORPG back around 2001 or 2002 as I recall.

I moved from MUDs to M59 in 1996, then right on to UO at launch.
I had almost forgotten about that one. I started up with BBS's along with Trade Wars back in 1991. It was such a great game, thanks for helping refresh my memory.
My first true mmo was WOW, in 2004.

Dark Age of Camelot about 2 days after release.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I've been a gamer for a long time; remember such classics as the original Lode Runner, Ancient Art of War, Thexder, and so on. But I got into MMORPGs relatively late. After WoW released, I decided I'd have a look at what all the fuss was about. I got WoW, and, because I like Final Fantasy, I got FFXI for the PS2. Played WoW a good deal for a while and not FFXI because I had to get an extra-long network cable to hook up my PS2. Then I finally got the PS2 connected and tried FFXI, and I suddenly didn't have any time for WoW any more... That would've been sometime in 2005, I guess.
Tibia in 2000/2001 i belive, with dial connection =x

Godspeed my fellow gamer
Wouldn't have been Stellar Warrior on GEnie, would it? Shoot, if we count that or GemStone, I actually go back to the late '80s with a long hiatus until 2005.
