This is inviting flaming. There is no such thing as the best game in this or that. People have differing opinions, try to encourage them to try the game nicely instead of saying it is the best and I dare you to challenge me on it. Just because you and I love it doesn't mean everyone else will.
It is very subjective which game is the best. It's a matter of tastes. Since I like to be part of a grand story and PvE, my game of choice, right now, is LotRO. So, at least for me, it's the best game on the market.
For the second...
Again, very subjective. I think it depends on what kind of PvP you enjoy. If you only like to PvP sometimes, then games with BG type PvP would probably be best. If you like the thrill of looking over your shoulder all the time, then DF may be your game of choice.
That said, your asking for an answer to a completely opinion based subject. In my opinion EvE would be the best. Some will say UO, some Shadowbane, some SWG, etc etc etc.
It'd be interesting to see if a consensus were reached, but I'm not sure that's really likely

If Darkfall is not the best MMO out there what MMO is? If Darkfall does not have the best PvP of any MMO out there what MMO does?
Well... uhm..... hm.... Maybe other PvP MMOs I enjoy more? Just as an idea.
So everyone reading this answser knows you answer was Intentionally non-specific. What I am not sure is if you are aware of that. Which I think you are. So what I am really not clear on is what your objective is.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Chill out, I believe the OP meant what is the best|| most seccessful Fantasy Sandbox MMO of our times.
not exactly. I am not intrested in people posting what the most successful is becuase that doesnt always mean the best in the eyes of the player posting it.
Its slightly an open ended conversation to people asking if you do not like DF what game in the MMO market do you personally like better. I dont care about 'successful'

Best MMO right now for me is Darkfall. This is all based on opinion and personal taste naturaly, of all time there's SWG, EVE and DFO. Before SWG had JTL and CCP sold out to the carebears, can't say one was better as they all have aspects that were better and worse than the other. Present day though it's Darkfall as the others have been screwed up by the companies running them.
I really liked the combat system in Tabula Rasa, I can't say it's better than Darkfall or really worse but just that I really liked it and like DFO it was a pleasure to play. Pity that the rest of the game was a bug ridden steamy turd!
This is all personal opinion of course, nothing more.

I liked Tabula Rasa for those few unique features: like PvE with consequences - outpost defences and assaults where awesome. I would love to see something similar in DF.
For PvP, Darkfall is the best bet. However, there's quite a bit of other mmorpg elements missing from the game that leaves it out of long-term enjoyment balance for me.

well on that I do strongly encourage you to wait.
The reason I say this is because the entire world of agon currently completely interconnected with an extreemly large dungeon system that is currently in development. I would be shocked if a lot of quests do not come with that aspect whch is what I assume you are talking about. Just about every door you see that you cant access but looks like a dungeon access I think will become one.
boxes are not out in stores yet and they have plans to do so. This game is not complete.

click gathering button or tradeskill button and watch = PvE zerg or get zerged / slaughter new players = PvP chat like wow chat = RP If not Darkfall than what? even WoW
well somewhat of an answer. The short version of your answer is WoW.
Well I played EQ2 for 9 months and although I played it I really wasnt into it that much. I like DF much better than EQ2. why did I never play WoW? becuase for me I could never bring myself to play a game with the graphic styles it had. I find it visually insulting. But, everyone is different.

As to the OP, best MMO ever would be Ultima Online. Best out currently (in terms of polish/etc) would be EvE Online, but Darkfall definitely can become number one with Darkfall 2010 and I haven't touched EvE since I started playing Darkfall back at EU-1 launch.
As for best PvP, definitely Darkfall, and it can only get better. I'd also say that World of Warcraft pre-Battlegrounds was absolutely amazing PvP as well. However, Darkfall's combat system takes the cake and I haven't had more fun PvPing in an MMO as much as I have had in Darkfall, ever.
after a lot of skepticism even wile trying this game out yesterday i fell in love with DF. it was so simple yet so profound. it was such an innocent question that started it all ....."are there any cc in this game?" and, like a shower of petals from heaven, someone wispered "no, not really".
YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!! FINALY!

I actually find PvP in WAR more enjoyable than PvP in DFO.
Can you tell us why?
I can think of a few off the top of my head (this from playing the first month or so of launch):
- Realm vs. Realm (personal preference, but I enjoy seeing people work together that aren't in a guild)
- Graphics & Art Style - It doesn't lag me to death when I try to PvP, this is being on a system that used to run Crysis on high/max.
- Battlegrounds - queuing for battlegrounds can give a more satisfying experience because both sides are somewhat equal.
- Keep combat - slightly boring, but it offers the ability for large groups of people to defend their keeps without any knowledge if they're in an alliance.
- Characters and Progression - large amount of unique skills pinned for each class, PvP allows for more experience to be obtained over PvE.
- Those PvE quest gathering things... forgot the name.
- Built for casuals or for a pick me up and play. I'm sorry, but when I play a game I want entertainment.. grinding is not entertainment nor is it 'hardcore'. Doing countless FUN battlegrounds given if it takes 10,000 of them, is not a grind and therefore it can be considered 'hardcore' because of the large amount needed to obtain a goal or objective (not saying WAR is has countless fun battlegrounds by any means.. just an example).

Just off the top of my head...
You can PvP in Warhammer pretty much as soon as you log in to a new character. Darkfall needs months of a huge PvE grind before you have a respectable chance of winning in PvP. Warhammer is much more PvP oriented than Darkfall.

Now that I'm AFKing Darkfall in preparation for my remaining PVE, I'm thinking of giving Star Trek Online a go since it's been getting good reviews.
