Good job they're not Finnish, but Icelandic then

+1 for Ryzom by the way. Agreed with all the previous points about it being a little dated and changing hands a lot, but it's a great little game and has one of the best communities I've come across.

Ya get DF man, then just bot your account for 6 months so you have decent skills to play.

Wurm on the other hand is a true sandbox.

DFO is not a sandbox. It has however some of the core features of sandbox game. But poorly implemented. Like it has skillbased system, but has no skillcap, so everyone is the same and everyone craft for himself and therefore economy is nonexistant etc. you get the picture.

I didnt play wurm so cant comment on this one.

Icelandic, eh?  Either way, the cold gets to their brains... :D

I've been reading about Ryzom.  I don't know if I could get into it or not but there is a free trial... shrug.

I'd love to see a sandbox game based on 4th edition WoTC D&D rules.

    But I'll keep dreaming.

Completely agree with this. Ryzom is odd. Interesting concepts but overall it bored me to tears. Also, lack of a music soundtrack is a huge CON for me.

Will someone please make an Eve/Darkfall type sandbox with PVE focus? PVP is fine, but when I want it, not forced like these 2 games offer.

    it IS your destiny!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Ok, this recommendation is not total sandbox. There is no housing, very little crafting, and little to no PvP.

It does have very challenging content that will make you learn or you will quit.

This game is DDO. You can make a cookie cutter class, or you can go crazy and come up with differnt builds.

You want a nuker that can beat on things in battle? DDO has it. You want a rogue that can tank? DDO has it.

You want to be able to solo, small group, group or 12 man something? DDO has it. Be warned soloing requires you to have a brain. This is not WoW. All characters are not created equal. DDO doesn't hold your hand. You must search for your info.

Being productive in this game requires you to learn about it. If you gimp your toon DDO is unforgiving. There is only one way to correct that and its to reroll.

Good luck, and if you try out DDO do your best to be the best!!

DDO?  Oh, I played DDO for years - immediately after release I subbed the game and played a drow bard on Sarlona, first grinding faction up to 400 to be able to make a drow; then grinding faction up to something like 1250 to make my first "32" point character.  I was in a large, active guild.  I posted custom builds on the forums, I ran raids from Tempest's Spine to Twilight Forge and then even some of the new demon/devil content released right before they ruined the game.

Yes, I said it.  Ruined the game.  They made DDO F2P, which means Pay to Prosper.  I have no interest in supporting the "cash shop" model of "Free to Play" games any more than I have an interest in allowing my tabletop D&D gamers to purchase in-game magical items from me with real money.

"Hey Justarius, I want that Longsword+3."

Me: "No problem!  That will be $20.  And hey... you can play a drow for $5 more!"

Nope, they ruined DDO for me.  I won't touch a game with a cash shop with a 10' pole.  If they ever come up with a sub-based game based on 4th edition D&D rules, I'll play it in a heartbeat.

If they add a cash shop, I'll leave just as fast.

Xsyon in theory sounds an awesome game to keep an eye on, but more information is needed as to whether or not it can deliver what it promises...
