Last patch before release was a week ago... what now?

davmac22davmac22 Member Posts: 283

So whats up with mortal?  They released a botched patched about a week ago that did not include the content updates.  Since there there has been 2 patches, 1 meg and 2 meg patches.  And now about a week, they have not updated anyone with news, they are very quiet.  Every time someone makes a post asking about launch they close the thread saying its a duplicated and to search the forum... yet you search and there is nothing new...  Just the to be announced thing, no official news...

Whats going on?  Why are they so quiet?  Are they in such a bad shape that they can't update anyone with news as they know how grim it is?

imo i dont think they will release soon. it may be pushed back again hopefully.

when they partnered with nvidia they started pushing back more because they MAY have gotten an influx of money.... would be nice if another company decided to become inverstors in the game to make it get pushed back a little further again.

but on the other hand the reason they may be keeping quiet is because they are working ferverishly on getting the content patch out and trying to release soon. could go either way.

That patch last week was suppose to be their last major content patch before release...

anyone who isnt new to MMO releases knows that they NEVER get released on time. things happen, things get pushed back, glitches occur while patching etc, etc.

With this game its one of those things that if you like the concept of the game and the direction the devs are taking it then stick with it and support them. I will probably not play at release (ive been in beta since block D) but i will pay the sub fee to  help them keep going because i believe in the game and what they are trying to accomplish with it. they work very hard and seem to accomplish a lot with the time they have. tons of new contents has been put in the game since i was first in with beta. i like what they do and hope they succeed.

this game seems like its a sleeper like eve online was. crap at launch but people supported it. with the revenue and time they had from supporters they turned it into one of the best MMO's to date with free expansions 1-2 times a year.

EVE launched in 2003 where the MMO landscape was VERY different than it is now. And oh yea -- EVE actually had you know -- CONTENT. They had missions and an intricate PvP system from DAY ONE. That was their "killer feature".

MO has no killer feature at all, and to compare it to EVE is just like spitting on EVE.

Paying $15 a month just to give them money to support them?  That's insane...

I think you have a little bit to much optimism in Starvault.  I have been in since block A and I can say, Starvault has a very poor management team (if any at all) and there is no direction or strategy from what I have witnessed.  I am not trolling, I am giving you my observation of following this game for the last 9 months (since July 2009)  There is just no strategy in what they are doing, they are just throwing stuff together hoping it sticks on something.

(Mods do not ban me for trolling, this is my observation of following them the last 9 months)

Dav, they have been updating us all the time, they are working on the bugs, and the newsletter will come soon to have information about the release. You should follow devtracker and mIRC.

You can burn me, but i wont die.

ive been following MO since i think '08 when the first trailer came out. they are very vocal about what they are doing for the most part. most of the time there is a dev in IRC. they do try to fix/add what they can when they can and most of the patches they add are great. they are an indy company so they are very small but in my opinion they are doing a pretty damn good job for how little they have to work with.

if you dont want to play or dont believe in it dont buy it or if you have, go through your CC company to reverse the charge for the pre-order. but stop bitching about every little thing that happens. "OMG WHERE IS MY FUCKING BOX?"

they gave you an open beta so you could test it out to see if its even something you want to buy/pay a sub fee for. i cant recall any mmo i followed that has given an open beta before launch. they are giving you the opurtunity to make an informed decision.

I dunno. I've wondered this myself. Usually IRC is bustling with information. Have you tried there? These forums were pretty lit up with information regarding the upcoming content patch (A.K.A "MIracle Patch #2").

By the way, your forum signature is like a seizure waiting to happen =P

Huh?  Almost all MMOs have an open beta before launch.... by definition it would have to be before launch to be "beta".  Last two MMOs I followed were STO and Allods... both had free open betas.

allods is a F2P and every F2P has an open beta which is pretty much its release. i did not follow sto but i heard you had to pre-order to get into the "open beta"

Rindon, SV is also heavily aiming to squish out the biggest problems during the OB the give so smooth release as possible at the point, it has been a huge stress test. A really good move, as if this same error would have occured in release, it would have been hell of a mess. But it also serves as a huge selling campaign, as people who truly understand that this is the game for them (Bugs aside) they really buy it as they understand how it works and most likely they have searched the past info of the companys progress.

They stated a big rise in the customer numbers.

thats why i pre-ordered it a while ago and will give them my money for a sub fee.

am sick of people bashing the game. they have been very open about everything they are doing, what to expect at release, etc, etc. i think people are just so wrapped up in wow and want a game to be as polished as wow is now at release. anything else is cause for troll fest.

people forget that wow has been out for 5-6 years now and was buggy as hell/unplayable at launch.

You can't compare WoW (one of the few MMOs out at the time) with Mortal Online (with hundreds of MMOs out right now)

You can't compare a buggy WoW release to a buggy Mortal Online release... because remember...  There are a lot more MMO titles out at this time.

And please stop with the ITS A BETA stuff, thats really annoying...  Again... they released their last content patch before release last week, next is release...

I guess that's the difference though. I won't pay for a half finished product, nor would I pay a premium for it. I apply the same logic to any purchase I make. If you're willing to buy something that isn't finished at a premium well... that's your right. Just don't be upset when the game folds due to lack of customers to keep it running. Running an MMO is not a cheap affair. And the "skeleton crew" to keep it basically running will not provide any updates to the game either. Look at Vanguard.

No... I certainly didn't pre-order the game nor did I buy it at release.  As I said.. almost all MMOs have an open beta just before release.

So does anyone know what Starvault is doing?  They said they would release after this last content patch, and they have not updated anyone with any news or anything, just keeping very silent.

You heard wrong, I've alfa and beta tested most of the AAA MMO's that have come out in the last 5 years. Each one had an open beta.

You my friend are the ideal candidate to get suckered into paying to beta, never believe the perception that because they are offering beta slots to those who pay that's the only way to get in. That's why so many suckers pay to begin with.

Read my first sentence then realize, I've never pre-ordered a game in my life.

  • Wasn't the game supposed to release like 6 months ago? How do you know this is the last patch before release? Just because they said it is doesn't mean it is. Come on now the game is about a year away from being ready to be released. I guess though it might be one of those paying for a beta kind of deals like other companies have done.

WoW was unplayable at release because of the sheer number of people logging in. It wasn't because of the game, it was because of the unexpected demand of millions of players to play.

Otherwise there weren't game breaking bugs or crashes, and the only major thing I remember was a silly looting bug. So stop lying to prove your side of the point.
