Ideas for FFXIV

VysceVysce Member Posts: 26

I'm sad to say I missed out on FFXI, but I'm a long time Final Fantasy fan and I just wanted to throw some idea out there for XIV because I really want to try it out. I honestly think they're BRILLIANT and I really don't know why SE hasn't thought of them yet, and, if they have, put them in their online games. If I'm wrong about anything here, don't hate, I'm just tossing around ideas. Sorry for spelling/ grammar errors in advance.

First of all, why is there only one faction? I've always wondered why, in FFXI there was no "Evil" faction with exclusive bad guy races. Honestly one of the big things about Final Fantasy is the identity of the big evil shadow that's threatening the land for his/her own ambitions. it would be really cool if players could actually make and level up an evil toon like so. Who here hasn't dreamt of making their own version of characters like Sephiroth, or Kuja, or Garland or even Kefka if you're into that sort of thing. Yes, the Light is a big deal but it's boring without true darkness to challenge that. I think this would be great for pvp as well, but just the design of your own antagonist just sounds pretty bad-ass.

Secondly, Final Fantasy games have usually made icons of their single main protagonist and antagonist. The third thing would be, yes, you guessed it, your PARTY. And I'm not anti-social here, having actual players in your party is fun as well, but npcs who you could recruit would be awesome as well. Like, different npc characters could join up with you as a reward for a quest, or even as a random encounter, you get the idea. You could give them better armor, weapons, assign gambit tree like levels to make them stronger in different areas, almost like the crew member system in Star Trek Online, for example. And these characters could aid you on different quests and, as with Final Fantasy games and their famous limit to how many characters can be in a single party at one time, there would be strategy to which characters to have out at any given time if other players arn't in the mood for teaming up with you or for some other reason.

OMG AIRSHIPS. Quite possibly one of the most iconic things in a fantasy series since the One Ring. So who here can say they don't want their very own airship? Eh? Sound good? Ok. . . how about AIRSHIP BATTLES!!! Yes. Not only could they be fun for player housing (like the bigger vessels in SWG) but actual PotBS/ Skies of Arcadia fight sequences could not be more awesome in an Online Final Fantasy game. It would change the vision of online gaming completely and if there's anyone to do it, it has to be Square Enix! Did you see the trailer for FFXIV? Where that guy is standing on some balcony of what appears to be an awkward-looking, gun-blasting, cylinder sky fighter with wings in the middle of a giant battle IN THE SKY? Uhhh awkward it may be but sign me up to take the battle to the skies!

I think that these plus other ideas could definately give Blizzard something to fear. Not that I'm anti-Blizzard at all but come on. Airship battles? Yeah, das be kicking major ass on the MMOG industry, if done right of course. Tell me what you all think and  share your ideas too! Just none of this what if FFXIV SUCKS? crap. If it sucks, it sucks. Time goes by, true gamers move on. We've been shown so much awesome stuff by SE in the past years and FFXI still boasts a healthy community last I checked. But I don't think it would hurt if we dived deeper into the Fantasy.

    Okay.

    1) Why is there only one faction?

There is not only one faction, there are 3. All of them are in war with each other.

11, too, had many two factions, and a big evil shadow x10. I do not see your point.

SE won't allow you to make an evil character, because Final Fantasies have always been about cooperation, not competition. It's always good guys saving the world from evil, and 14 is no different. If you want to play a bad guy, look for a different franchise. There are just some things SE isn't selling out for more subscribers, and this is one of them. However, like in 11 in this game too things might not be as they seem (players were often revealed to be the bad guys trying to ruin things, even though they thought they'd be doing the good thing).

    2) If there is solo content, you'll be doing it alone. If you want to have more party members, there are 3000-6000 players online with you. Why would SE make an online game and then abandon it? Your PARTY are Other People. FFXIV: Online, remember?

    3) Guess what could be cooler than 20 classes? 30 classes! Only if the devs had infinite resources and manpower to do everything..

Airship battles, in a game not designed for airship battles, being online to mix things up even more.. sure, they can implement that- just don't look forward to seeing any more content for a year because that stuff ain't a walk in the park to develop.

Let the devs think of the ideas. They know what they're doing. By having meaningless speculation like this, we'll all just be disappointed that there are no features like this in the game. Like the game for what it is, not what it's not.

First and foremost, thank you for not being cruel, as I said I knew nothing of FFXI and . . .  3 factions. I am definitely BLIND!!!!! Now, gosh I honestly had this. . . . I am stupid and I apologize. And yes I do have the greatest faith with the Devs. And you prove a FANTASTIC point, well now that I know there are 3 factions. Making an evil character would be nice but the lack of such action will not stop me from getting FFXIV. With the party idea, I hope you didn't think that I wanted to solo because I was sick of people joining me!

Thank you for responding nicely! I can't tell you the many times people lash out at me for calling a game into question. I'm not a troll I assure you! I'm really just a lonely gamer looking for conversation. . . . .

I see his point somewhat with one thing or another and it occurred to me . up to now MMO in general has always had you rolling alts right. well why is FF following that trait like all the others.

start game; select screen, choose character and there you have slots to make alts to play.

wouldn't it be more quicker if you could switch between main and alt while playing without going to the select screen.

having up to 4-7 characters help you out is an tradition of FF and switching between them, and  I know, that puts the group play in danger, but alt selection needs a major upgrade!

This is an interesting idea here, Final Fantasy XIV could set it up like all the toons you create are your "party" of sorts and you could switch them out within the game. There would have to be some sort of limitations on it of course, but this could be an interesting game trait that makes FFXIV even more original, as an MMO. Yes I like this!

And to just consider my airship battles point, I don't think fights with giant hulking airships between players could be done, cool as that would be, I think SE could make the game cooler if their were small fighter battles, but then I guess it would turn into FINAL FANTASY: BATTLEFRONT. And dosn't that sound badass. Not even joking. Am I the only one wondering why SE hasn't made A Final Fantasy RTS game yet? I'm not really counting Tactics here. Like Final Fantasy: Total War. I know it wouldn't be called that but you get my point. Or perhaps you do not.

Was FFXI in active time battle mode? And if so will FFXIV follow suit?

First of all- XIV does not follow the tradition of rolling alts, because the system is set up so that you can do everything the game has to offer with just one character. That discourages rolling alts.

That kind of system would be cool, but it kinda goes against the main "strength" of the game as opposed to other MMO's in the market, that pretty much require you to roll an alt if you want to level another class.

And Vysce, if you've played FFXII- it's like that in XI, only slower.

FFXIV, on the other hand, will be turn based but you control every action you make, and not like in XI where all attacks aside from specials were automatic (like in WoW, or MMO X Y Z). You can do short but accurate strike, or heavy, inaccurate strike.. there's many possibilities with that system, but we don't know much before the Beta starts.

That's what I thought, I saw a very short video of XIV gameplay on youtube and it seemed similar to XII.
