Welcome to the mmorpg genre.  Dull combat is sort of the standard...despite the fact that most of these games choose to focus on combat...

Lobotomist, not sure why this game isn't on the list, I've wondered that myself.  Some of us ARE interested in the game, but personally, I've learned my lesson about closely following games that are early in development.  I like their ideas though, a very sanboxy MMO that doesn't focus on a FFA PvP gankfest.

I'm in the CB now and I agree with the statements that it's more like an alpha stage than a beta.  HOWEVER, the game is looking quite promising for sandbox mmo fans, just don't plan on an official release anytime soon.

Hasn't come out yet. But if you go to their website for their IRC info they give out beta keys to thoughtful chatters. If you need a beta key, I got two available. Its currently in alpha, and still has a lot of work ahead of it. Yet so far, the graphics are intense and its fun to play, yet no content just yet. Its still in alpha.

Maybe i already have a beta key

But seriously, were do i dl it? Cant find it anywere.

You have to go to the website, then to the beta center option and go from there.

Take a better look around. We've got some great alternatives out now and coming soon.

Like what?  I know of "better" versions of the typical shit (guildwars) and a few odd ones (planetside, DDO), but I've yet to see any thing great.  I certainly haven't heard of any thing new that would break the trend.

If by Korean art you mean that shiny bright ugly crap(like Guild Wars) then I agree. I tried Guild Wars and couldnt stand it for that very reason.

I have a good feeling about Dawntide. The focus on building communities and housing being integral to the game remind me of old style SWG.

I like a lot about Dawntide. I'm leery about the open PvP, but if their community system works it may well make rampant PKing, uh, unrampant? And the social ties through city/nation building are intriguing.

Art, I like their realistic stile much better than the gaudy oversized stuff a lot of games are going to. It actually looked pretty good while I tested it.

I like the way mining is done in locations that make sense. Along rivers and in  massive caves (and at cliff sides, if I remember right). Not only is it open and plenty of space for lots of players, but the locations also give it a control aspect for wars between city states. Same with lumber, it seems to me.

True player built cities, designed by the players. Not this rebuild the ruins as they are stuff.

Skill based, the only way to go. And the skills are limited in the power differences between the top and bottom. There's a big range, but not so much that middle ranged players can't play right next to high end characters. This is needed for any social games where nations are built.

Someone mentioned the combat system. I think it's going to turn out to be very interesting, and realistic. Not only do you have special attacks, but you have various stances from aggressive to defensive to balanced, and they have an affect on the combat in an interesting way. Several ways, actually. It's what stances you use against what stances your opponent uses, they affect the current attacks and defenses as well as the stances affects. They build up bubbles of bonuses, or lose them, depending on what you and your opponent with the stances. Last I played, it wasn't in full effect yet, and I'm sure it's still being tested and balanced.

"Hard lock", I don't know where they are on this right now, but the idea was that you had to break from combat (a move) before you could flee. I like the idea, not sure how well, depending on implementation.

One aspect I love is the possibility of deep mysteries. They have nordic runes in the game, on sign posts and on the maps. They didn't just plop down art, you can decipher these runes. They make sense. They can use this to add to game play for mysteries, lost lore and treasures, etc.

    Once upon a time....

Darkfall, Mortal Online, Global Agenda, Earthrise, Fallen Earth, Black Prophecy, Jumpgate (and Jumpgate evolution), Age of Conan, Planetside (and the rumored Planetside Next), Huxley. (Ok, Huxley and GA are a little light on the "massive")
