Well they finally did it. Intel's new 600 series has come out

and right after i bought a new system too. AMD finally has a little competition in that area. Just thought i'd share the news

Competition? I don't think so...
Though technically they may be better in areas, they are far to expensive for the end user to get, AMD will continue to dominate this category.

I'll bet that eats power.... but hell, it is nice.
I love the mobile Athlon XP chips.... Simply the best for the buck.
I used one of them in building a PC for a friend, 2500XP-M to be exact, upped the FSB to 200, pulled the multi to 11 runs great. Cost about $130 with cooling, runs equal to a p4 at about 3.0.
wait wait ive never seena 64 bit laptop. did u have to build it i built my 64 bit comp,
3.2 HT 64 bit processor, AMD 64 bit motherboard, asylum model geforce 5950( my favorite card of all time), and a 8 channel sound card with 5.1 dolby surround sound.

Like any of intel's processors those prices will be almost halved in a few months as they add on a few new speeds, Intel has always price gauged on brand new speeds and always will. I am sure I will get one abit down the road.
I have never used an AMD processor and I never will. Not because I have anything truely against AMD processors, but after 10 plus years of Network Admin experience I go with what I know will work. AMD lost me when they had the Duron DirectX compatibility problems and I know how tight Intel and MS are when it comes to making sure things work, so unless that changes I will always stay with Intel just for the simple fact that I know exactly what I am getting and I won't hear "its not our fault, its Microsofts".

From what I understand, AMD worked very closely with Microsoft to ensure full compatibility of the Athlon 64. In fact, I believe it's one of few processors that works natively with the NoExecute portion of the Data Execution Prevention feature in SP2 (the other processors being the Athlon 64 FX and the Opteron).
