Hey I was thinking about trying this game, but I was curious as to how noob friendly it is?
I'm trying the free trial first, than if I like it, will buy it and sub for it.
Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!

Seeing as how the game has only been released since September, the playerbase on average is still pretty young I would say.
There is plenty of action to be had in all of the starter cities, and beyond. All have healthy populations from what I've seen.
The game itself is extremely n00b friendly as there is a /help chat channel with GM assistance you are logged into by default the first 6 levels. So if you have any questions, most likely you will see the answer scroll by in help chat. Or you can ask yourself and one of the GMs or myriad of players that monitor the help channel can help you.
One recommendation I can give you is do the tutorial, and extended tutorial. That will give you a good basis from which to build in this game.
Good luck and welcome to the apocalypse!

Well... I'd say by all means do the tutorial, and then the extended tutorial, and read the quests at the beginning, they're well written and draw you in.
There is the /help channel which helps A LOT, and the player base is friendly. But I will tell you that the learning curve is a bit higher than for some other games, so don't expect a uber sword of uberness at the beginning, but you will get a real shite horse once you finish the extended tutorial.
Recommended to get rid of it asap and train yourself a new one, takes about 30 mins in all. Enjoy, and welcome to the apocalypse.

Lol...I wouldn't think I get some awesome stuff at the beginning.
Thanks for the advice so far guys. I don't know if you guys saw, but if you buy the game(as of now) you get a ATV and some hat. Doesn't really matter to me what mount I have. Either it be a horse or ATV. I just want something that speeds up travel.
Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!
Get the hat, you can get a lvl5 mount in about 30 minutes and the ATV sucks gas which is expensive at the beginning. All the same by lvl 12 you can build your own atv, the hat can really help speed up junk gathering, etc...

The ATV you get will save you some materials and time early on when and if you decide to study crafting vehicles. You get a free horse for doing the extended tutorial, and I like horses better anyways. Gas is too expensive and hard to make early on also IMO. I know it sounds terrible to use your free gift for buying the game like that and not actually drive it, but once you get into playing you will see why it's a good idea. 8)

I'm trying it for the ten free days offered, and, I really enjoy the game. I'm very pleased and surprised that its fun to play!
For almost two days the game was incapable of getting past the "Negotiating" stage of updating. After checking ports and firewalls, what finally got it updating was selecting the option on the Fallen Earth launcher to do a game file defrag. As soon as that finished - a few seconds - the game started updating.
Fingers crossed, and hoping I can try the game out in a couple of hours.
Truthfully, I would replace the nag you get for free though asap. It's such a money sink compared to the low crafted horses you can obtain through the horse training craft skill that have such a higher amount of stamina not to mention tons more cargo space for storage.
Completely agree about the ATV. Frankly, I would suggest people to choose the hat over the ATV if they were to ask beforehand.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Go for the Hat.
First get a horse from the turial quest (around lvl 2) and around lvl 5 you can build a Horse that is much better.
And with First Aid skills (skill points 24 & 27) you can heal your horse and give it stamina with buffs that last around 30min or so. No need to feed it. It runs for free. Vehicles suck Gas and are not that much faster anyway... they kind of pointless. And you can't give them any buffs just Gas... and it cost...

Noob friendly? It's not that bad; there is a general help channel that isn't worthless like the global help channels in other games - it's actually moderated by a GM staff and a staff of volunteer helpers.
That having been said, the player base is mature and friendly. Try it, play the tutorial - don't skip it! - and hop right in. It's not as unfriendly as, say, EVE Online is, but I'd say it's not quite as hand-holding as typical themepark games like Aion, either. I mean, in Aion, there's basically one quest line up to level 10 and it walks you through everything in painful detail. Fallen Earth isn't that way; it's more of a game where discovering the mysteries are half the fun.

Careful.
The Fortify Buff lasts 30 minutes on YOU (or other players)
It lasts 3 minutes on your horse. Been /bugged, but no response. Don't know if this is 'as intended' or not.
