The game sounds great, but I'm going to hold out a bit longer to get more concrete evidence that this game isn't vaporware before preordering.  Having said that, if they do provide that evidence, I'm in Like Flynn.

I hate to be the voice of doubt and I sincerely hope I'm wrong but this seems overly ambitious for a April release. Of the 40 screenshots available there are (from what I can see) only 3-5 locations, 2 animal and only a few character models. In addition there are no interface screenshots, no examples of crafting systems or combat skills and very limited structural examples.

I would like to say I know its early days but truth is we are talking 6 weeks till the prelude here. Is this going to be another Roma Victor?

Price wise you looking at a cost that is equal to all the other MMO's currently out there, most of which have solid evidence of quality gameplay with substantial playerbase numebrs.

I suppose the burning question is: What exactly can we expect in the prelude?

Seems too good to be true; the game.  I have nothing against it, but I've been on their boards, and perused the materials, and I'm pretty cautious with how much came together in a short period, how theres alot of lack in detail and developer input, and the quickness in which they want to launch.

    I'd be cautious.

If you read the dev profiles the lead dev actually worked on Roma Victor lol.

well they've been working on it for 3 years apparently but didnt want to hype the game up so decided to just show it right before release

the devs said all features are 80% complete sept for the evolution sections.

I mean darkfall everyone was calling vaporware for 8 years or whatever.. They prob didnt want to go the same vaporware route like darkfall and then be a big disapointment.at releae.

Based on the promised features, this game alone would be the best game ever made. Unfortunately, it seems to have appeared from a cave somewhere by a company nobody has heard of. I can't help but be a little suspicious, like biting into a McDonalds Chicken McNugget.

Yep, which is why I'm hesitant about this game. I would love for my cynicism to be misguided on this one though. I guess we'll find out in a bit.

I'm pretty impressed with their feature list, it sounds like the game I've wanted for years, but with that and its very... strange appearance, I am seriously skeptical. I'm going to keep an eye on it, we've got about a month and a half until it goes live. Hopefully over the next month or so, they'll give us enough information, gameplay videos, etc. to make me want to pre-order. I want to based on the feature list, but... I'd like to see it in action.

Check back with it in a few months and see. Prelude is like mostly stress testing.

prelude will be everything that is on the feature list with exeption of evolution. If you have to believe the developer. So it just a little more then just stress testing. EVERYTHING on the list is at least for 80% complete.

Depending on what is released over the next couple of weeks, that will be my deciding factor on the pre-order portion of this. I don't want to waste more money on another crappy game or a game that will lose my interest 5 minutes in. With the feature list they're currently boasting and at 80% of those features being in the game at launch, they really have my attention. The features remind me of other games I've played in the past all mixed into one and I am loving it. Hopefully they can provide some decent videos over the next few weeks so that a lot of us will be able to make a better decision.

They have my attention, now they need to keep it. :P

I'm not worried in the long run, regarding the prelude. If I buy into this however and it is sort of a "beta-test", I do wonder if they're going to delete our characters. Thats what would make me skip the prelude. If it is full on go from the 15th, then I'll be more inclined to pre-order.

Toons will be kept from prelude.

Prelude is a mix of testing and game building. Events for the villages and towns in game will happen and be built by players in prelude.

People that will live out of "starting areas" are going to be built by prelude players. They will work the world from the ground up.

This is a chance to have the players test and work the world building while at the same time testing the game and GUI and reporting any issues.

I hope that makes it more clear. Dont worry though if you are into building there will be MANY more things to build to come. Thats what Xsyon is all about. Building and living in another world. This world is fully sandbox. You can get a tribe, build your village live there, set up events and quests. Protect this village, grow your village, take over other villages.

Start a trading network, or travel the world and explore it.

Well, I'm down with all of that. The prelude, like I said, has me interested; I would just like to see a gameplay video and see how the animations look, what the atmosphere feels like a bit, before I shell out $40. I mean, all in all, the entire prelude thing, with the building and whatnot, sounds like something I would be very interested in participating in.

Now, to see a video... :) I mean overall, the entire game's feature list has me more then hooked & I'm pretty much waiting with bated breath to see this game come to fruition in the hopes that it can be what it promises to be. :)

This looks like it might be what MO promised it was going to be and failed at being.

By now mmo devs should realize how many players have ended up disappointed by failed promises and lacking features, and work to convince players the game is worth trying.

So that being said.. a game that just appears out of no where, with this kind of feature list.. only the most newbie mmo players (as in new to mmos) should be expected to jump on the bandwagon..

In other words.. we the "hardcore" mmo community have been screwed way too much. Convince us you are going to be different.

Personally I would wait longer than that before pre-ordering. Even if they prove the game exists and is making progress, there's no guarantee on quality or how many of their promised features make it into the final product.

    True.

Wanted to let people also know that the videos wont be coming from the devs but players themselves. In about a week and 1/2 they game is going to be played by the preoders, these preorders will be able to post videos screenshots etc of the game.  You can take what you will from that at that time.

    Quoted from here http://www.xsyon.com/forums/6-general-discussion/1472-where-are-the-videos?limit=10&start=20

Re:Where are the Videos? 1 Hour, 48 Minutes ago

At this point, the plan is to let players make gameplay videos, for several reasons.

    1) Saves us time. We're a small team and right now the main concerns are to keep improving the game features, ironing out bugs and get you guys playing.

    2) It probably sounds strange, but we don't want or need more hype. We're building a nice small community right now and that's exactly what we want for the Prelude.

    3) As mentioned above, a developer made video might not reflect real gameplay. I think it's just inevitable if I turn some artists loose on making game videos they will make them as nice as possible and we do have flexible camera views to do so. Also, we are more familiar with the game.

Player made videos are good in my opinion as they will reflect more what the first time player sees.

So any that are skeptical and don't want to pre-order will just have to wait on the proof they so desperately need. Personally I don't understand why people think they are being "asked to pre-order" no asked you, they simply put up the option for those who are willing. As for proof that it exsists, they only owe that to those who have already spent their money on the product.

That being said I will pre-order with no so called proof, simply because I've spent money on shit games with so much "proof" that turned out to be false (Vanguard, Warhammer, Mortal). The difference here is none of these knew when to stop spewing about false features that they hoped they would get in before release or would be finished and polished.

Most of the community are like toddlers now, in that they have to be face up in everyones buisness "let me see! let me see! Can I see?.....what are you doing? Let me see!

I'd just like to note MO is still in development, so it hasn't "failed at being".  At this point, there is 1000% more evidence of MO becoming what it promised than Xsyon.

The thing is Cochran, you may have the money to just throw away on a bogus POS game, but some of us do not have unlimited funds and want to make sure that they are spending their money wisely. If the game has poor graphics or, even worse, poor animations people aren't going to want to play it.

I'll give you a prime example. WURM online has some wonderful ideas implemented, but when I'm being chased down by a wolf that doesn't even move his legs, but instead glides along behind me, well I'm personally turned off by that and am done with that game.

For me, its not a question as to whether Xsyon exists, it's pretty evident they're working on something; for me its a question of quality. Will it be a decent game, will my character glide or will it walk like a person. Granted, you can tell some of these things from the screenshots, but sometimes a gameplay video is better, you get to see the characters in motion and see how they respond to whats around them.

If I had the money currently, I would probably still pre-order at this point, just because based on my past history of pre-ordering games, I've spent money on some of the worst. I'm willing to shell out $40 for promises at this point. I thrive on MMO-entertainment and I like to try them all.

I wouldn't stoop however, to calling someone a toddler just because they want proof that the game either exists or has decent gameplay. Like I said, most just want to make sure that they're spending their money wisely.

    Edited: Some spelling errors.

My Point is they aren't asking anyone to pre-order, so instead of going to the lengths I've seen people in thses forums go (I.E. asking the staff here at MMORPG to "please ask the developers to put out a video or give a hands on preview so that MMORPG can make a video before I pre-order") just sit back and wait for the proof they need. You know player videos, or release perhaps before they buy the game.

Seeing as how you have also spent money on dissapointment more than one time, you should know as well as I do that videos and in depth information doesn't prove anything.

Well I agree going to MMORPG.com staff and asking them to contact devs for a video is pretty... out there. But I can definitely see why people want a gameplay video.

Yes, I've been disappointed in the past, but most of the time I didn't personally watch the videos ahead of time. I just went by screenshots to be quite honest, and a lot of times I buy the games after they have been out for a bit and then are disappointed by the company at a later date.

The main reason, I personally want a video is because this is an indie company that no one has ever heard of before and the game popped out of the middle of nowhere one random day. I want to check out the animations, because sometimes animations blow the big one and that kind of ruins it for me.

I guess in the long run videos and in-depth information don't prove anything, but sometimes seeing a video or reading the in-depth information can help towards deciding whether to give it a chance.

Sure no one is asking me to pre-order, that is my decision to make, but even judging by the feature list... I would like to give them my money, other people would like to give them theirs too, but they want to make sure its the smart way to go first. :P

But soon, no one will have to worry about any of it, because the Prelude starts for preorders here shortly, and then players will be posting videos like crazy. :) We may even get sick of seeing them and just want to play!

No way I am putting money down before I get to read some previews and see some gameplay. But I am still excited for this game. The feature list is amazing, and if it can be pulled off with enough polish, I will be ordering
