FF XIII is out and I likes it!

elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

Been playing it off and on since midnight. Game has grabbed me far better than FF 12 ever did within the first 5 minutes. The FF feel is back! Even better, the engine graphics are outstanding and give us a glimpse into what FF 14 will look like.

What a great week in gaming!

LOl you are just like my buddy who found it noteworthy to call me at work an hour ago with...

"DUDE! You HAVE to go get the new FF! It is so good. Did you like 10?"

    replied: No.

"Oh cmon man 10 was great! You played 11 did you like 11?"

    replied: No.

"Dude you didn't like 10 or 11 what about 12 I know you bought 12?"

    replied: No.

"Well anyway it is f*&^%ing awesome, you need to go get this game, the combat is so fantastic, I only played it like 1 hour so far but it's the best FF so far, really bringing the FF back to FF with this one!"

replied: Just like 10, X2, 11, 12 13, 14 8975723485702389759073489. Dude please stop calling me anytime something FF hits a internet website webpage or TV screen. FF is old. Very old. Only the rabid fans give a shit anymore, if they want to impress me remake FF7 with next gen graphics, I will buy that. F*&*K FF I am tired of it, and hearing about it. Now go skeet in your pants over your 13th FF game and quit calling me at work.

    Click.

That is about how it is everytime one of these new FF games come out. Sad part is I will buy the damn thing just to add it to my other 12 FF games sitting in a cd case and on carts all over the house.

[ Mod Edit ] I am a FF fan. I am just tired of the never ending cycle of bs square produces.

I played every FF game ever made, I have beat ever FF game ever made. I have the american and japanese versions of every FF game ever made, from the Famicom up.

I am more than likely a bigger FF fan than you are. [ Mod Edit ]. I can also provide screenshots of my carts and cd binder if you doubt what I am saying is true.

They made a flash movie about FF a few years back that hits pretty close to reality. They will be making FF games until the end of time. None of them ever really get any better. Honestly they get worse. The graphics gets better, the story gets worse.

    Story wise,

    X2 was garbage

    9 was better than 10

    8 was better than 9

    7 was better than 8,9,10 and 12

Tactics was on par with 7

6 or 3 was better than tactics and so on.

Every few years they make another one, and it never lives up to the expectations of the last. They just look nicer.

Stop making them already and try something new.

I'm glad your not my friend either!

Aside from this, going to buy it when I head out to work in a couple hours, it's nice that it'll give me an extra opportunity to get in to the FFXIV beta, been playing FFXI lately.

How can one call themselves a Final Fantasy fan if you don`t actually give them a chance? Second of all, that flash movie praises FF for it's quality, and clearly states, "all other games are lame, it puts them all to shame". Anyways, seems like you stopped being a fan a long time ago and seem to want to deal blows to SE whenever possible, so there really isn't any point in any further discussion with you.

Rightttttt...... I am a bad friend, because I find it in bad taste to call me at my job to talk about FF #782637896178..... Gimme a break.

I never stopped being a FF fan, just tired of bad FF games, and there hasn't been a good FF game since 7. That is quite a while of ridiculous waste of resources and time on SE side.

Regardless, I will still end up buying this bad game also. Just so it can collect dust in my cd case with the rest.

That being said how does one buy every game in a series, play and beat every game in a series, and also usually do all side quest in said series, without giving them a chance?

You from the county or something?

Your a bad friend because your rude.

If your going to buy it, why post saying your not. Why call anyone who buys their games anymore a "rabid fan goon", when you yourself own every single game, and are also going to acquire this next one? Are you yourself a rabid fan goon? I'm not really sure how you know this game is bad, that seems like bad form. A true fan would be hopefully that this in fact would be a good FF game, and if your concern is this game doesn't feel like Final Fantasy, the OP, with more than 5 posts, and about 6 years of this crap under his belt assures you it's not.

I would also suggest countering arguments with logic instead of insults, it generally makes you seem less desperate and more intelligent.

I haven't been able to get into FF (and other JRPGS) for a very long time. The gameplay just seems so repetitive, and the characters are always done in such a cliched, sophomoric fashion that I honestly can't bring myself to really care what the hell happens to them. Not to mention the lack of any meaningful party interaction that isn't scripted or written into a flashy cutscene.

Loved 1-7, hated 8, got about 6 hours into 10 and quit in disgust. Haven't played a JRPG since. Well, tried Blue Dragon, but... no, just no.

*Sighs* But maybe I'll rent 13, give Square one last chance.

  • neonakaneonaka Member UncommonPosts: 779

    Intelligent?

Like this "because I am rude."

I am the rude one for trying to do a job to make money for my family, and yet a "friend" calls me at my job to talk about a stupid video game?

Who is the rude one? Him or I? Are you even looking at what you are typing? If so you must not have a job, and if you do must be very poor at doing said job if it's cool and not rude to be interrupted at it to talk about Final Fantasy.

I am a fan, just not a rabid fan goon, scroll up and look who insulted who first, I am pretty sure he insulted me first, by suggesting I suck at games because I do not like the latest batch of FF games. That is a rabid fanboy response if I ever seen one.

Your defense of such behavior lumps you in with this guy which If I were you, thank god I am not but if I were would not want to be defending or associated with.

Anyway, SE has had a trend in my opinion <--- pay close attention to that word most people do not, of producing games like they were on a conveyor belt. Here you go FF7 here you go FF8 here you go FF9 here you go FF10 here you go FF X2 here you go FF12 here you go FF Dissidia here you go FF 13 do not forget all the Nintendo FF games and so on, and soon we will get here you go FF Versus, here you go FF 14. Seriously. It is more about cranking out a number of games for profit now as quickly as they can than it is producing a serious story for any gamer to enjoy.

FF games now are ONLY for the most die hard of fans, if you aren't in that category, FF games are just meh, next, meh next meh next.

Well FF7 was nothing special I actually found FF9 having a better story still FF7 story is not bad and by looking at my avatar and sig you must understand vincent is my favourite character :P

And I agree that yes I didn't like final fantasy 10 specially the combat if only it had final fantasy x-2 combat..

BTW how's the new battle system like? is it anything like x-2? that's the best battle system I played in an rpg from square enix imo.

According to my buddy, it's a brand new never before used combat system, that is let me quote.

"OMFG Nerdgasm good that everyone needs to experince." (yes he is a super FF nerd and gaming geek, please pitty me I have known him since we were kids)

So it might be worth checking out. I am just not going to put much faith in the full product, it could have the best combat in the world of JRPG but if the story is bland like they have been for almost a decade, then it will just be FF # whatever to me.

Sov because I am a tired syncial basterd.

I will at least TRY it like I do them all, but there hasn't been a good one in quite some time, with the amount of FF games they are pumping out specially in the last 3 years since Crisis Core and beyond, I hardly doubt they put any great detail into this game. I could be wrong. Like I said once I get my hands on it, I will know in an hour if it is worth finishing or not.

I am at the point though, that if after an hour it isn't "grabbing me" off to the FF cd binder graveyard it will go right next to FF 12.

"Only the rabid fans give a shit anymore", sounds quite rude to me. Hell, I love to be called at work to be bothered about video games, it happens at least a couple times a week, and I work for the CRA.

My behavior in this thread is merely against the derailment of the thread that you have caused, the people you want to associate me with really means nothing to me.

Regardless, I still enjoy Final Fantasy XI, and it was my gateway to the rest of the Final Fantasy IP five years ago. Although I agree some are not as great, I still believe it is wrong to judge a book by it's cover per se. I will be leaving to buy FFXIII right now, and also as a coincidence be heading to work. Give me your buddies' number, I'll be more than glad to call him from work.

     Eh.

This game was so-so for me. They moved away from what made FF enjoyable in the first place... NON-linear. Now all it feels like is one constant battle. You don't go to town to restock, you dont get to just kinda wander from place to place.

The nice things were the music (as always) and the gfx were done very very very well. Fights were blah as well :/

    - Case: Thermaltake Kandalf Black Chassis
    - CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (OC'd 4.2GHz on Water Cooling)
    - Memory: Mushkin 8Gb (4x 2Gb) DDR3 1600Mhz
    - HDD: Dual Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM
    - GFX: (2) XFX Radeon HD 5870 in CrossFire - New upgrade! :)

I have never ever played a FF game outside the mmo beta.  I watched a friend playing one of them a long time ago, trying to go up some stairs, only to stop every other step and fight mobs for 30 minutes, to take another step, and fight again.

    Didn't look fun.

It is a speed thing. Your is faster than you're, by 2 strikes.

I am aware that Your is possessive and you're is for you are.

EDIT - about the same as using lol for laugh out loud or wtf for what the f*&k. Same thing, what's funny is people actually get upset on the internet about such things.

It isn't like we are writing published books here or an editorial for the site itself. If you understand what the person typing it actually ment, then it really shouldn't matter.

I am a fan, just not a rabid fan goon...
You are a hypocrite to your own opinions.  You claim you aren't a rabid fan goon, yet continue to nerd rage over the topic.  If you didn't care, why even join the discussion?  The OP expressed his opinion in which YOU flamed him for, even though YOU voluntarily came to this thread.  The only thing YOU have been posting is YOUR constant whining about how the FF series hasn't met up to YOUR expectations and flaming everyone else for not agreeing with YOU.

Since you're so keen on spotting them, notice a trend here as well?

The only one causing a scene here is YOU. Now go back to whatever rock you crawled out of and get the bug out of your all-mighty "I'm 1337 cause I played/owned/beat[ed off to] every FF game" ass.  You don't care about the FF series.  Great for you.  That, however, doesn't entitle you hijack threads of those who do just because you have nothing better to do with your time.

P.S.  Personal note, your opinions became a joke the moment you claimed FF8 > FF9.  FF8 was terrible and I'm sure you'll find most agree with that.

Back on topic.  Yes, 13 is great.  I'm quite impressed with not only the story, but new implementations to the combat system.  MILES ahead of where 12 was.  12 simply felt like FFXI offline with better graphics, which simply didn't suit my tastes.

NEWS FLASH! PAYING THE SUB IN F2P = NO DIFFERENCE THAN P2P GAMES!

Why the hell can't the whiners comprehend this?

  • elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

    Anyway, back on subject.

I find this combat system ten times better than FF 12. So far, I've only touched the surface of it, but it seems more "actiony" then any FF game before it, although you still have to wait for the ATB(active time bar) to fill up before the moves you queued are activated. It's fast though. Not like waiting on the limit break bar back in the day.

So far it is linear, but that's to get you moving into the story proper, character introduction, which I'm really digging so far.

I read a bit of the manual and there is a ton more stuff to go do and explore and go off on side quests once you get to the world of Pulse.

Character development reminds me of the sphere system in FF X, albeit a little different in presentation and how you apply points. Back I go, so glad I bought a 1080p TV for the PS3 here lately as this game truly shows off the PS3's power.

I am even more hyped for FFXIV now after playing this. Good year for games it appears 2010 will be, at least from Square.

Oh how very witty you are.

Can you explain to me what forums are used for? Oh, various things, but most times used for people to post their opinions on whatever topic may be at hand.

So the OP likes FF13, that's cool. So we all have to post here that we agree with him or it is "hijacking" give me a break.

Also You are also a Hypocrite. FF 8 being worse than 9 is YOUR sec let me bold that YOUR opinion. Mine might differ from YOUR wait YOURS

So you want to lecture me on hypocricy about opinion, but somehow because more people liked 9 more than 8, that somehow invalidates my opinoin.

    Bravo!

    Go back to school.

I've not yet played XIII, although I WILL be buying it for PS3. I hope the game is better than XII, which I feel was nearly as bad as VIII. So anyone who has it, and has put in a few hours worth of time, does it seem like the good ol' FF, which is a decent time-sink, or the new type of game, which is like 8~10 hours and you're done? I for one, have played FF since 1991, when I was 4(yeah I got my ass romped a whole lot), and have been a faithful follower ever since.

Btw, this whole XIV Beta crap, I wonder how many will buy, just to get a stab at the demo? The new marketing ploy companies make use of. But nevertheless, it is what it is.
