The Daughter system is a pet mechanic where the pets come in the form of little girls. Like your player characters, these Daughters will grow up with training, and each one promises to be unique depending on various factors, including how close you are with her.

naah I see the pets as a very entertainent part of the game.. Is kind of gay when you have to select the clothing and stuff (I see it as a barbie clothing shop xd) but it's still fun.
Gay isn't exactly the word I would use for it. Creepy, deeply unsettling,....creepy? Maybe. But not gay.

the Pran, pixie evolves to the girl i showed above and fruther they acquire personalities. and they are quite fun, they keep asking questions, some are funny, and give side quests sometimes.

mmmm dont you think it is just wrong of Aika to make daughters aka little girls as pets? The concept is just bad. I dont see sons being made pets. Give us a break and boycott this game. Most women wont play this game because of using girls as pets. I dont usually slam games but this is very perverted.

I find the Prans a refreshing addition to Aika. I admit it worried me at first but as I got used to playing... ok, maybe not the best word to use, fighting and questing along side my Pran, I found it fun and entertaining. The varying personalities of the Prans as they grow keep things fresh and interesting and I find I feel more of them as daughters than well... something perverse to bide my time.
As for girls or even women, as my woman plays, it doesn't seem to be any issue at all. She enjoys her Pran as much as I and seemingly for the same reasons. Its not like they are dolls as someone stated earlier. They are an integral part of the game where keeping your Pran happy can benefit you greatly and not doing so have an adverse affect.
Personally, my greater worry are the idiots who feel the need to run around in their underwear jumping around like fools who think they look cool. Personally I ignore them but we've all seen them in almost any MMO out there. Still, there they are and your worried about Prans??
Aika has a lot of potential and who's to say that in some update in the future they won't add male Prans or even as you say, grumpy old man Prans. In any case, its a great place to begin and I am looking forward to Beta 2 and hope my Prans haven't missed me too much.

Ok, jokes aside, here's my issue with why the Pran thing is more than just "It happens to be a cute thing that also happens to only be female and is a nice feature." The whole child raising thing and personalities and all that in itself, isn't bad. In fact, it's a nice mechanic. However, when you take into account the "sordid" history regarding little girls in the culture this is coming from, the fact that they are specifically ONLY female, and the fact that they are mildly sexualized, and it becomes a bit more disturbing. Granted, they're digital constructs, not real children, so they can parade them around in revealing swimsuits for all ethical purposes as no children are being hurt, but it doesn't make it any less creepy as balls, and you have to question if the person in your group sees their Pran as a little sister, or is actually a creepy pedo. I mean, there is really no legitimate reason why they have to be suspiciously stereotypical cute anime girls for this mechanic. That was planned, which is a bit 0_o in itself.
This is the internet. Do you think people are going to respect them and treat them as they're advertising them(companions), or do you think there are going to be creepy pedos and little kids emoting blowjobs with them the second the get one. I'm going with the latter.

Hey buddy, Bioshock does the same thing with little girls.
Little Sisters follow Big Daddies no matter what and are completely loyal and trusting to them, and well, in the second game you can get them to suck adam out from a needle-ish thing all for you.
If you are going to try and "boycot" this game, I better not hear you mention Bioshock 1 or 2, even in private, unless you are bashing it and its "pedophiliac devs" =P
True Kord, but at the same time, those same people often don't need a game to get the same kinda "kick". There are plenty of other places that offer similar things if you dig around enough. Hentai and all that, and I'm more than certain there is a few private forums out there as well where people love to "RP" this kind of sh**. Besides, from what I remember, Second Life has this game beat years ago in this department... =P
I think you're confused about the PRAN system a little. Yes it can loosely be described as a 'daughter' system, but it only has a few actual similarities to raising a child. The real lore, and maybe you already know this, is that you're teaching a fairy about the human world. It's a mutually beneficial, symbiotic relationship as opposed to that of raising a child in which the onus is entirely on the parent. So when you suggest a person will either see their PRAN as a little sister (or daughter) or in a pedophile way, I would argue, that neither will be the common viewpoint of most players. It's a little fairy that looks like a girl who assists you in battle in return for help understanding human culture, through talking, eating, clothing etc.
You also raise the issue of Korean culture's sordid history with little girls. What exactly are you referring to here? I wasn't aware that Korean culture had that sort of negative image. Also, the game has many other examples of forced choice of gender in-game. The class choices as well as the PRAN have specific genders forced on you; obviously more choice would be nice, but I have fail to see how the developers choice of making PRANs female supports any point you're trying to make. Stop and consider western culture and how we imagine fairies. They're mostly females aren't they? It's ok for us to make fairies female only but not Koreans?
The PRAN system certainly has the potential to be abused by players, but so does just about any other game. I mean if I can play a FPS like Halo 3 or Battlefield: Heroes and get teabagged after dieing by players misusing the crouch control in the games, does that mean it should be removed? No, the reality is that there will always be some people that twist innocent game features to whatever malign purpose they want.
tldr: The Pran system is fine as it is.
Actually I thought the original version was from Japan, not Korea, which culturally had...issues...with this matter, and still does to a considerably lesser extent now. My fault if I'm mistaken. As for the lore, it's tough, because technically you can make lore support whatever you want. It just seems "strange" deciding to make these things female only and have the appearance of little girls when you essentially keep them as pets in the game. The mechanic itself seems cool, but their choice in the details is just unfortunate.

hint if you dont like you Pran being a little girl looking thing with giant ears and bug eyes than guess what ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you can turn it into a pixie and still get the buffs from it .. Duh ....
theres a skill the pran gets the same time it evolves to a lil girl lookin thing that lets you turn it back into a pixie so you dont have to play dress up with it
