Three Friends and Myself

Are looking for a game to play.

It does not have to be massively multiplayer, but at least four-person multiplayer.    We cannot subscribe to games.  It can be co-op or versus, or anything in-between or otherwise.

We just got done with a long stint of Borderlands, and it was wicked fun.  So basically we would love to have another game akin to that.

We tried to play Fallen Earth together, but that wasn't so fun.

We're moving to Titan Quest Immortal Throne now (although this might not last, I myself and another sort of dislike it already ._.).

Our tastes are wide and vary:  We have all had our hand at WoW and "that sort" of MMOs.  They work fine.  Although we are not looking to sub to a game, so that is out.  We had played the unlimited trial for W:AR for quite some time, and that was sort of fun, but got old, of course.  We have also played EVE, TF2, the CoDs, BFs, and so many other games it'd really be pointless to list here.

So, perchance anyone a recommendation for the four of us?  We'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks a bunch.

Try DDO. It's F2P with an item mall, but not as obnoxious as some of the other F2Ps with malls. You're perfectly able to get through the content without buying anything, with the exception of a dungeon or two and the Drow race. I think you can even earn some kind of points to spend in lieu of real cash for some things.

For a group of RL friends to play together, it's the closest you're going to get to a tabletop feel in an MMO if that's the kind of experience you're looking for.

It's funny you would recommend that!

I actually keep pestering my friends about it, asking them if they'd be up for trying it, and they always sort of shrug it off.  We're most definitely the D&D types (although we've only played tabletop once or twice)...so I'm not 100% sure why they're against it.

Maybe if I had a good argument as to why it'd be fun together.  Other than it seems perfectly awesome.

Well, since the game is soloable, why not try it out for yourself? You can get through the opening sequence and into the small village and do one of the first little dungeons in an hour or two. Perhaps if you have a direct experience with it, you'll either decide for yourself that the game's not worth it, or you'll have a first-hand account to relay to your friends about how it's a game they'd enjoy playing together.

It's really not a bad game. I haven't played much recently due to work and other people wanting me to play with them in other games, but I'm tempted to spend this weekend running a marathon session.

Before having read this, I did just that!

It's still downloading (man, I love how it DLs in parts so I can start playing it - the Guild Wars system of sorts, and a very good one) but I made a character and noticed that the intro. and such is different.  Played around a bit.

It seems solid, I'll give it that.  Plenty of voice overs - I am legitimately interested to see where the story goes - and solid combat.  Really fun combat, actually.

My only two complaints at this point, really, are that I have to hold down my right mouse button all the time (I'm sure this is togglable, I just need to look around) and how I've heard the cash shop can "ruin" the game.  Although I can toss $20 at a game one time, I don't really wanna pay a monthly fee.  Nor do my friends.

Anyway, this seems solid.  I hope I can talk them into playing it with me.

And thanks for your responses and help.  I appreciate it.

I just worry they won't take the bait and I'll be left where I am now.  I'm sure there is a game out there for us.  Why can't there just be a Borderlands 2 already...Brink will be out soon enough though.  :P

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm stuck in the same rut many here at MMORPG.com find themselves in: finding the perfect MMORPG. There are so many games out there that fit what I'm looking for in bits and pieces, yet none make the total package. I like the open world PvE of Vanguard, but there's not enough of a player population or sandbox elements. I like the theory behind games like Darkfall, but the extreme competitiveness and hostility of a large portion of the playerbase tosses out the RPG aspect and turns it into an e-sport. I like the visual artistry of a number of Asian MMOs, but the gameplay styles don't fit my tastes. I like the mature gritty themes of Age of Conan, but the instanced world destroys the immersion for me.

So I guess my ideal MMORPG would be Vanguard's large open world, Darkfall's sense of in-character danger without the out of character snarkiness of some basement dwelling neckbeard named DemonSkullz666 taking revenge on every girl that laughed at him in junior high by ganking newbies "for the lulz", the visual fidelity of TERA, and the R-rated blood, guts, gore, and mature socio-political themes of Hyborea.

Any developer scouts out there taking notes? :D

You could try League of Legends. It's free to play 5vs5 pvp, with a bit of fantasy and roleplaying added. You can just play as a 4 people team with 1 random person.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Man, way to sum up precisely how I think, myself.  I'm sure one day there will be a game such as that.  When, I know not...nor how soon.  But there will be.  There'll have to be.  The market craves it badly.

I want to give DDO a solid shot.  Maybe if I joined the equivalent of a guild or something and got into it.  I think I could have some fun with it.  At least for a while.

And I guess I could always give Age of Conan another whirl sometime.  Maybe.

Blackout looks okay.  Although I'd rather just play Bad Company 2, I think.

Oh yeah!  I had forgotten all about League of Legends!  I didn't even know it had released!  I will most DEFINITELY give that a look.  Thanks alot!

And, sadly, Tales of Fantasy looks a bit too Asian-grindfest/low-budget oriented for my tastes.  I cannot go from playing a game such as, previously mentioned, BC2 to something such as that.  But when it releases fully I'll surely give it a shot.  No reason not to.  :D

Correct, it is not free, however I already own BC2, thus myself playing it is no issue.  And that other game would be an option for our group, even still.  : )

Wow!  So DDO is amazing.  We had a blast playing it tonight.  Three of us did at least.  Hopefully we'll get the other one to join us, too.

I'm very excited about this.  I think we may have found something to pass the time, at least for a while.  ^_^
