Eve 2010 Tripple header! - want game of the year 2010 much ?

sadeyxsadeyx Member UncommonPosts: 1,555

Its almost like a dream... and not one of those dreams where you think "wow, that seemed so real!" because this dream doesnt seem real at all.

How long have we been waiting now for 'Walking in stations' ?..   How long have we dreamed of planetary interaction? and now its all coming this year?

So in 2010, if we are to beleive the hype (and it is only hype since nothing official is announced yet)  before the summer solastace we are definatly getting Planetary interaction...  Then we are getting Walking in stations at the end of the year, and presumably in that time Dust 514 will also be released?

What the hell?... Planetary interaction, Console FPS MMO, AND Walking in Stations...   Does anyone think that this is rather a tall order for CCP?

If CCP Pulls this off then I've no doubt EVE will be well in the run-up for MMO of the year again!

In anycase, I plan to get a console to play Dust and i'm properly looking forward to these expansions for Eve.

Yea, the only one I'm hazy about is Walking In Stations 'Incarna'

They have said 'winter expansion'  So if it will be 2010 or not I dont know.

I would gladly give up or delay an expansion for a patch dedicated to fixing bugs and balancing issues.

They've stated before that roughly 50% of CCP works on fixing/balancing while the other 50% works on new stuff.

Cant say fairer than that... you've just got to keep more content coming nowadays, you cant stop it.

They pretty much did this with Quantum Rise, and they caught a lot of shit for it. It turns out that most of the people who say "just fix the bugs" really meant "fix all the bugs AND gief new stuffs"

CCP has proven they are a very aggressive company, and WOD should be coming into the picture too. They have also shown a tendency to bite off more than they can chew and do things other companies wouldn't.

    Should be a fun ride

Eve already has so much content, So many tools and different gameplay options. I think they could use a little more time to fix what Dominion broke.

I kinda wish they would stop adding new mechanics and maybe focus on what they added already. Would be good to continue tweaking FW, Wormholes, Epic Arcs and Sov.

They could also go back and reevaluate mechanics like the bounty system that really need some love.

Don't get me wrong im happy with all the new stuff I just want the current stuff to get better as well.

I dont disagree with you.  But I'm fairly certain that if the next expansion was JUST to fix stuff then it would be pretty disapointing.

Not only that, if the people that worked on new content stopped and helped the other 50% of the company and did fixes, then it would take even longer to develop new stuff.

If you look at any Expansion patch notes there's always pages and pages of stuff they've fixed.

But then, what CCP are attempting to do with Eve is completly new and different, so I dont mind stomaching these bugs, so long as they are showing active work on fixing them

hah, so it just occurred to me; 50% of CCP are fixing bugs that the other 50% are writing? It's gotta be like an arms race in that office! :P

Well right now the lag is messing with the Sov players and since I no longer take part in that aspect of the game (im casual now) I can deal with it.  I just don't want those guys to get feed up and leave the game because they cant have their wars.

IM probably a bit Biased right now when it comes to available content in Eve. Im more of a low sec roamer that likes to dip into the exploration side of things for isk (Running Combat sites).

So im not really in a hurry for the PI mechanic since im sure ill need indy skills i simply dont have the time to train.

Overall CCPs dedication to its vision is cool and even though i would rather them tweak my stuff I get the whole adding more stuff to the sandbox.

Eve is the only sandbox i've ever played that added so much sand that they need to actually get a bigger box LOL!

No doubt people would bitch and moan but it would be for the greater good.

I've been playing Eve for about 14 months now and there are some really annoying (not game breaking) bugs that have been around that whole time.  From what I understand they were there long before I started too.

As others have said, Eve does not suffer from a lack of content.  Some areas could use some improvement though.  I don't think I've experimented with half the things available to me.

Also I think I'm the only person in Eve that "walking in stations" holds no appeal.

    Thanks Man,

Yea its mad that I made this thread and literally the day after all this news about planetary interaction came in ! o/

Its looking a bit simpler than I was hoping it to be :(  I was hoping for detail on stuff that you can do on the planet, so far it just looks like setting up a remote mining facility.

    But yea, early days

That's how CCP does things though. They release Basic tools and the players evolve it over time.

When incarna hits It will be nothing but empty stations and over time the players will create living breathing shoping hubs, bars, game shops.

PI may look like a simple indy feature now but overtime CCP will give more tools to the point of actually controlling combat troops on the map, hell even flying into the atmosphere to really see stuff up close.

The skies the limit for these guys.

Officially should they also release World of darkness online Q4 but few if any still believes that they will pull that off too.

Still, game of the year 2010 should be easy for them, STO and MO wont be much competition. 2011 with FFXIV, GW2, TOR and a few other goodies will be a lot harder fight and unless they release WoDO that year is my bet that someone else will get that.

Well they've just announced that they will be using Unreal engine with some other fancy lighting technology which they will be using for Dust, Walking in Stations and I think World of Darkness too.

looks like they've been developing this engine, so at the moment I wouldnt put anything past CCP

I'm real worried about this whole avatar system. Even if its only a social feature Avatars could date Eve. Its been easy for CCP to keep Eve ahead of the curve but once they have avatars things change. People will put this game under a microscope.

Will the avatars have fluid animation will they run on older systems, Can the character graphics keep eve from looking aged.  Just seems like a big risk. I know you need to take risks but I don't want to see Eve go to shit due to this.

I agree, it could go some very dangerous ways.

Either it will be so good that people spend their time in stations and not in space ships.

    or

It will suck and noone will ever be in stations.

Graphics wise... well, Im not so worried about this.  I follow the very gritty tech lectures they give at the fanfests and CCP are rather Elite about their tech.  They dont just try and make things look nicer but they also develop technologies to make sure everything runs efficiently.

They overhauled the graphics engine comepltly now, and when they were doing this overhaul they made sure that they were using bang up to date technology so that its compabitle with all the new cool features of the future.

I have a feeling ill need to upgrade my system. Im watching the fanfest 08 videos now and it looks really good. I want to see how these guys are going to get those graphics to work on peoples PC like me who use the Lite version of the client.

    Explain how this is "dangerous".
