Have my eyes been removed? Can not see in this game.

DugathDugath Member Posts: 93

I have tried playing this game 3 times. All 3 times I log in when (I assume) it is night time.. and I can not see anything at all.

A camp fire here and there.. but besides that I can not see 1 foot in front of me (never heard of it being that dark outside).. even when I go up to a camp fire I see nothing.. just a camp fire on a black screen.

So I am not really sure what to do, if t is supposed to be so dark you have no clue what to do and where to go. Or is it just some sort of bug..

That's the realism the fans want in the game (even though its not realistic as the moon light does not even work)  Check out these fight scenes.  You can't even see your own weapon!

Apparently they did the dark a bit "too dark" so they will fix it in the next patch. That's what someone said on here anyway.

Strange.. though I suspected that was the way it was supposed to be. Guess I can keep trying to log on and see if I ever hit day time

In that second vid all hear are guys grunting and breathing.. not sure what is really going on there.. maybe its for the best it is dark.

Wow. Thanks for the laugh with my morning coffee!  The more I read about M.O., the more I'm just giddy with joy that I never had any level of anticipation for it, however....the more sad it makes me for people who did. Perhaps having a torch or gamma settings are "features" that are not implemented yet? lol ;)

    ROFLMAO!!!

OMG, I'm sorry....but it's hilarious that the now famous "working as intended" that many of us get as an "explanation" from developers for assorted idiotic issues, has now become a joke in and of itself.

What a sad state of affairs we gamers find ourselves in......

There are torches and they work as well as can be expected. There is gamma slider but i dont think its working very well.

This is exactly why High Dynamic Range lighting was invented.  Human eyes adjust to the darkness and make it appear bright enough to actually see things at night.  High Dynamic Range lighting simulates that adjustment in real-time, while playing the game.  Truly dark areas will be very dark and almost impossible to see IF you are standing outside and in the sun.  The opposite will occur--bright areas being too bright to see--if you stand in the dark area long enough to adjust to see in it.  The simple alternative to HDR lighting is to increase ambient lighting in dark areas.

Well how is this game? I have not been keeping track of MO, so know very little. Is it like the old Ultima Underworld or Elder Scroll games? At least as far as realism goes.

Surely the developers could have realised this straight away if they'd taken 15 minutes to test it? No idea why they disabled ambient and external light sources either, it was pretty obvious that it would be pitch black and look ridiculous, yet they clearly didn't even think about it, or just didn't care.

As I have said many times (few times even getting banned from this forum for saying it)  I do not think they test out the patches before they release them as following them since block A, they do not have a strategy on what they are doing, just throw stuff together at the last minute, which is why the patches  are always a few days late.

Exactly. This is why I find it so baffling that people still think that the next patch is going to fix anything. Past experience has shown that the next patch will fix one or two problems, but will mostly just throw more random shit in, none of which has been thought through or properly developed. As a result, 3 more problems will be added which will then have to be fixed in the next patch.

if I am not mistaken these videos were actually taken AFTER the Miracle Patch #2 which "fixed" the lighting.  You should have seen it before the "fix".

I did manage to get in when they first added the night time, but now I just get "Nowgame.exe" every time I try to play.

I think it might be caused by corrupted patches, because I got an error when installing the last one and the patcher shut down without finishing, but when I restarted the launcher the game said it was up to date and ready to play and no option to reinstall the last patch. Without a repair function, the only solution is to re-download the whole game again. No thanks.

The patcher was created by a fan of the game.. the game has had patcher problems since the start... well.. originally there was no patcher just download the whole game for every patch.   The best part is that even though they have taken money from people who pre-ordered (Some 8 months ago) they have zero support.. and you are left to trying to find answers to situations like yours by digging through forum posts of people to find similar problems and work arounds.

I have kept upto date on the patches until this last one.  I had an error and just haven't had the ambition to try and repatch it.  maybe in a few days...

trust me this game is much funner at night, at least that way you dont have to see how bland and empty the world actually is.

If night is "working as intened" then starter areas should be arround a fire, or in front of a torch vendor (torches should be free by the way), or inside a well litt town. this is just common sense.  there is really nothing worse then entering a world were you have absoluely no way to direct youself (no map), can't figure out the controls, dont even have 1 free torch, and are basicly left bumping into trees and rocks for hours on end.

this is just a complete mind fart by the developers.

Sure it's cool that at night it's all dark and spooky but that should be in the forests and away from people not inside towns and especially not in starter areas.

this brings me to my next point, torches.

the light given by torches it's horrible, the worst part is if you get close to someone that has a torch depending on what angle you positions yourself it's either full light or completely dark. you can stand right behind someone holding a torch and facing away from him and it's completely dark. this is just bad progamming.

as iv sed before i like what MO is trying desperately to do, but the execution so far lacks immensly. once they actually finish this game i will play it, but not in the state it's in now.

I remember logging in, creating a character and it was pitch black. Saw someone with a torch so i decided to follow them but lost sight of them

I dont know what the issue is with this game and patching, but i was only repeating what someone said to me in another thread.
