....
- MMORPGs meet the graphical standards of non-MMO games, like this one www.youtube.com/watch
- there is terraforming in MMORPGs
- the damage a player gets is calculated by the shape, size, mass and speed of an object or spell hitting the player at a certain location, and by the thickness, angle and material that is protecting the player there, instead of using a generic "hit for 100, armor reduces damage by 30% so player receives 70 damage"
- MMORPGs have seasons and weather
- seasons, weather and daytime have an effect on the results of players actions
- the ingame voice chat of the games automatically alters the voices of the players according to their race, status (ie having it sound like shivering when the player is hit by a frost spell) and gender
uhm.... yeah... I just wondered such stuff when I stumbled upon the above linked video.

If a company wants their mmo to be played only by those with top of the line computers, sure. But lots of people out there still have their 8600s and stuff like that.
Besides, I dont really see realistic foliage and a selling point. Gameplay. When all is said and done, thats what makes or breaks a game.
By the way, Ryzom already has seasons that affect the game world, and different damage skills that affect the outcome of the attack based on what part of the body you choose to hit.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
Not able to watch the video atm, but wanted to respond to the quoted bullet points:
Doesn't Ryzom already have season's and weather? It's been a while, but I though FFXI had weather that had some sort of affect as well (could be wrong on that).
EvE has voice fonts now. Not sure it is automatic as I haven't used them, but I imagine the full scope of that bullet point could be within grasp if there were a perceived demand.

Xsyon will have terraforming as a feature, as well as seasons that affect gameplay.
I think the other features you ask for are either unrealistic, or far to expensive in terms of development time to realistically ever appear in an mmo.
When we discover how to make super powerful computers that can compute a whole interactive world similar to ours that are able to compute every single scientific law, theory and formula that works in our world.
In other words, probably in a couple months.
This statement is false.
Well... the first 3 basically will NOT happen until there is some major evolution of the entire technology computers are built off of. It's simply impossible to have a stable game that does all that and has a persistent virtual world. There's two reasons MMOs tend to have slightly lagged graphics. One is because they take so long to make. The other is because they have to accommodate a LOT more data. Basically, by the time MMOs reach the current standard for game visuals and physics of today, the single player games will have advanced that much further.
As for seasons, weather, and their affect on gameplay; some MMOs already have that. It's not very common, but it exists. An example of this is FFXI. Weather plays a big part in that game. How well a player can craft, how tough a boss will be to defeat, etc.
As for ingame voice chat manipulation, again that would be a long way off. Reason being is there is little reason to do something like that atm. It's basically a colossal waste of resource to attempt something like that. Most players would rather hear people's natural voice.
Sorry to tell ya, but the majority of the points listed there would be better left to the imagination for now. It's good that you seem to have a robust imagination, but sooner or later you'll have to accept the limitations of technology, and enjoy games for what they are.
