I am looking for some new, perhaps more obscure sandbox MMO's in production. I followed SB, DnL, DF, and I am now following Earthrise, Dawntide, and a couple others.
What are the most promising, in your opinion? Any of them I likely don't know about?

Mortal Online?
One MMO coming up soon is Xsyon, a post apocalyptic MMO, with an impresive set of features.
Not much info is out at the moment, but doors to a pre-release are opening in a matter of days so more information should be available then.

I believe Xsyon is a pvp sandbox.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Ryzom is an old game, but it has a lot of good feature you may enjoy. It is hard at the start, but once you get into it you will find it has a lot of great sandbox features. but be warned the graphics are terrible, at least in my opinion.
I will say darkfall has come leaps and bounds since its realse but i myself wouldnt play it again. in the beginning there were rampant hacks/botters/exploits/macroers which led me to leave the game and not look back. I have heard they did some improvements to get rid of this but macroing your skills to max still happens from what a friend told me.
the character progression is very slow unless you use any of the above mentioned tactics.
the pvp aspect (this is from a friend that still plays) is pretty much a gank fest. roving gank squads and getting jumped a lot unless you are in a gank squad as well.
the sieges seem fun from what i was told other than everyone spams magic AoE attacks. having no cap on the amount of skills you can learn is fail imo.
on the other hand, a lot of people do like the game. it just wasnt my cup of tea with the exploits/hack/bots/macros/etc. most of the above mentioned is what a friend of mine who still plays the game has told me.
Mortal Online seems like it will be similar to darkfall but with better graphics and more role playing. all around it seems there will be more to do in game than just PVP. there will be an open persistant world, housing, guild housing, taming, extensive crafting, etc, etc. and for all your mo haters i said WILL BE. content is sparse at best but they do implement more and more things into game on a pretty consistant basis. couple that with it still being in OB makes for a pretty promising game.
a lot of people get put off by the game because of these forums. there are a lot of vocal MO haters and a seemingly biased mod. i myself have been temp banned and entire threads have been deleted & posts edited for posting counter arguments to people bashing the game. but whatever.
its in open beta right now, you can download and try it out for yourself, but keep in mind that it is a work in progress.
Personally, I'm following Earthrise. Dawntide's combat sounds like crap, and Xsyon still hasn't proven itself to not be a scam.
Ahh yes, I forgot to mention that I have had a Beta Account in MO since forever. As far as Xsyon goes, it seems to be very far from being even the least bit interesting. The concept is nice though.
I played Ryzom back in the day, I don't care for it much. As far as Darkfall goes, I will play as soon as they reduce the grind, and implement an economy that is more like EvE Onlines, rather than just pure grind.
Did you read what I wrote? A script that levels you while you're at work is against the EULA. Hotbar switching is not. G15s and the like are allowed in the game as long as the macros you're using are attended ones. Using AHK for a hotbar switcher is considered an attended macro.
You must also be against WoW's add-ons?
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
Darkfall rocks. Don't believe the negative hype.
MO might be good if it's ever finished, which probably won't be for a very long time, plus paying full price for Beta is super shady.
Also, for the record, they made it 6x faster to skill up on pve mobs rather than on yourself or a friend, so unless you can build a bot to fight PVE mobs using AHK (you can't, and you'd be banned for it anyway), it's much faster (and safer, if you want to keep playing) to actually play the game now. They're also cracking down pretty hard on cheaters right now.
agree with the above post, DF is one of the best sandbox full loot, open world, full pvp fantasy mmo out right now.
on a side not MO beta it's free. I didn't have to pay anything to try ,as it should be because you can't really call it a "game" yet. it's still very very early programming stage. download it and see for yourself.
I play Darkfall (former multiyear EvE player) and recently downloaded MO and played it for 2 days. MO is uninstalled. I suggest you try Darkfall's $1 trial.
It isnt. You can PvP but it isnt the main thing to do and there are punishments.
If the game is real anyway.
