I am about ready to give up on MMOs (again)

kb4blukb4blu Member UncommonPosts: 717

OK i quit MMOs' about a year ago but I decided to try again.

I play games to relax and escape from the real world for a few hours.  I have been playing them since they started and they used to be fun.  One thing that really bothers me is when people behave like they have no regard for other people.

I have been playing WOW to do the random dungeons.  One thing that has started to happen in them is a tank will pull a ton of mobs and run away or not fight and let the group die.  Usually they say something like "So long suckers" or other things that I will not quote here.

I dont know the ages of the people who do this so I am not going to lay the blame on any age group.  BUt my goodness weren't these people taught by their parents common respect.

I almost wish MMOs were not a popular as they are now because when only a few people played them you would never see things like that happening.

Anyway It is not worth $15 or so a month to put up with this crap.

Landroval is a great community in LORTO.

It does depend on the game. . for me they are all just stale. . it is not that the games are bland. . they are just not new.  With everything being online no one has to communicate.  It used to be that you would ask someone where something was and they would literally take you there. . you had to see them on screen to ask them.  Now you ask in a global channel and people give you "www.google.com" as a response.

The community in general has changed. . there are people that play MMOs like they play single player games. . and old timers like me don't have the time to get into a game they way we used to.  Exploring something new with people who wanted to do the same was amazing (UO beta etc.). . now most people just want to "win".

If you find something let me know!

OK Maybe you should try a guild dedicated to fun and no drama, like OTG thats Old Timers Guild at WWW.oldtimersguild.com . I know this is a shamless plug, but it helped me to find a guild where everyone is easy to get along with,  think our oldest member is over 70.

I was in the same boat as you pretty much.

Quit playing MMO's for almost a year, then decided to give AoC a try again when i found a 60 day gamecard for $13 bucks.

I have been resubbed for a few weeks to AoC ( quit just after launch) and rolled a toon on Wiccana. The community has been great so far, found a good guild to join, everybody has been real helpful whenever i needed it. Overall one of the best communities i have found in a very long time.

I am almost 40 and dont have the patience or time for the jerkoff community of games like WoW anymore. IMO if you have an interest in AoC or have not played it in awhile then give it a shot. It may suprise you, i know I was.

Keep in mind I play pretty casual nowdays due to work, wife, kids, ect. So i cant speak for the game from a hardcore raider 40 hour a week type player. But for casual gaming it has been alot of fun.

    Hope that helps =)

You could also try a different MMO. WoW isn't the only one on the market anymore and I'm pretty sure you can find a decent one around.

Mmos are like public swimming pools. No matter how nice the facilities, a certain number of folks in there are peeing in it.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

I'm enjoying AoC again. This game has really come back and I'm having a blast in just about any facet. I'm having fun questing by myself or in groups. The PVP could use a little work, but they plan on doing that after this next upcoming expansion.

All in all, AoC is at a good solid place, right about where it should have been at release. If you get into a friendly guild it's certainly enjoyable, and unless you like the whole douchebag WoW-type community, stay away from the server I'm on, Tyranny. There are a few good guys here but most of the server is severely immature and the main chat channel sounds like a middleschool playground.

It's worth checking out, for sure.

    Peace.

The obvious question is...Why would we care? I am sure your a nice person and all and if the current crop of MMO's doesnt suit you well then it doesnt suit you.  So just stop paying for them and find something that does entertain you.

And amongst the constructive replies, there's always one or two of these. The real point to make here is that you're the only douchebag that "doesn't care."

Not that any of us really care, but I certainly don't mind talking with people about the current state of MMO's, especially considering this is a forum specifically for the discussion of MMO's.

If you're seriously wondering why you should care, then why the hell are you replying to this thread? Take your non-caring piss-poor attitude to another thread and pester them instead.

    Peace!

Yup....this ^^^.  Works great for me too, regardless of what game we're talking about.

OTG is pretty much in any MMO you could think to play. When I was in the beta for Alganon, there was even a group there...I joined them for the beta. They were a very nice group of people. They're a large web site type community that plays a wide variety of games, somewhat like Total Aggression Gaming, which is another web community that has guilds in many games. There are actually quite a lot of those type guilds, but those are the only two I personally have been involved with.

indeed, so no matter how a game was fully occupied with system there will still be flaws ^_^

    a) you can always bring your friends (or your own group) to random H

    b) i have been doing random H every day and there are some a-holes .. but that is not the norm.

    c) you can always quit when things are going sour. Quitting is instantaneous so if you hit your button fast enough, you won't die.

    d) it is not that stressful. You can always ragequit.

I still play WoW, as much as I bash it. I bash it only because of the community, it really is horrible, not going to lie.  It's probably because the game has just gotten to big now and it's starting to become a problem.

BUT, seeing how my guild is that little light at the end of the dark tunnel, we have been recruiting players who actually want to play, or raid or whatever really.  We are looking to do the new raids that have been released, and most of us are geared for it. But I'm not one of those kinds of people who are looking for the "highest geared" players because that's just silly. Instead I took 6 people , all with a very very low gear score, and they are actually getting geared out now. All it takes is some kindness and to develop a friendship.

this is something not many people are doing. We are horde, on the Ner'zhul server. ( US )  and we are really taking anyone who is looking to raid that honestly isn't a downer. that replies with " who really cares" or " your gear is horrible l2p."  anything like that is a no and not worth my time.
