i played ffxiv from 2003. i quit in 2007 because i didnt have the time or energy to carry on. the best part of the game was the level grind and getting to know other players on the way. now that the cap is going up, im tempted to come back for that experience again.
I agree with this 100%. sure it was a pain to find groups, but getting to now the people in those groups was awesoem and made the experince.
This game was a pain in the backside to get a party to get from 1-75 when it was popular. I can't imagine how bad it will be when they bump the cap to 99 on a game thats pretty close to being dead. I can remember the endless hours looking for a group and failing to make one cause we coulding find a tank or a healer. With 50-75% of the servers gone. I dont want to experience that again. As it is duoing with my friend I dont see anyone in exp spots. 50 levels so far and I can count on my 1 hand thew times we seen more then 2 parties in an area.
Its kinda sad but 7 years later and the popular merit gear is still stuff from Sky or Ground HNM or the crafted HAubey+1 lol.

WTF are you talking about!?
50%-75% of the servers gone!? Really!? ...there has never been a single server merger..."ever" until this coming March Version Update; yes 8 servers are finally being merged out of 32 that have been going since launch{for 8 frackin years}, and now they'll be down to 24. Most MMOs today barely launch with half-a-dozen and then about a month later cut those in half again...cause the population has already dried up, and the game was horrible to begin with.
You also must not look at all if you don't see PTs...sure there isn't 20 PTs in every zone; like during its prime but there are quite a few out there all the time, are you on one the low-pop servers being merged then!?
And lastly why do you think there is lvl 99 cap raise coming up and all new content, its basically gonna change the entire way FFXI is being played currently...

I am on a merging server so pretty much that should sum up why I am the polar op of what your views might be. There was a time my server had a steady 2400 on at any given time. Some days that number surpassed 3000. If you look at it prior the the merging right now the normal occupancy is uaully around the 950's (500+ are 75 and from 1-10 about113) this is across all hours, with the bumps coming for ls events when you can see 1100max.
PEople talk about level sync, This seems to be nothing more on my server is a way for a guild to kinda trot along with one another. Something I dont seem to have th eluxuray of since my self comes and go depending on whats on the schedule. An with the amount of exp thats going to be needed, and the fact 75 exp is like 10k an hour vs what it is at low levels you wont see any level syncs when cap com,es out.
To answer your question, Leveling is dead, most endgame is dead and people are pretty much merit capped. There is very little interest left for those who are 75. A 99 cap is something to keep the top heavy half of FFXi playing. Its really just a way for S.E to suck even more money from players.
I see no other point to it really other then to try and maintain interest for the top half because it seems like everything else S.E did didnt really help much. Question on the level limit, will we need to buy the exp pack and do some stupid party type limit breaks again. Because a month on papy was horrible lol.
i honestly dont see why people are so pissed about this. ill explain my point.
in all my years of playing ffxi never has ANY part of the game been EASY. downright the game is just an ass sometimes. however. i cant stand games that give u all the stuff you want on a silver plate. now as to the level 99 cap. heres my 50$ worth cuz 2 cents is too cheap
dynamis has a max amount of players that can go on each run since so many people already have the gear they want/wanted or have quit youll be lucky if u can get a full outside party on your runs. SO dynamis is harder now than when it started. dynamis shells used to have a waiting list on new members. level cap 99? means less people needed and easier runs and shorter runs. im all for that. the endgame aspect at the 99 cap SE has mentioned will be based on 6 man. making it much easier to do runs versus dynamis 64 or 32 man runs.
my next point. since alot f people have been playing since "the early years" there hasnt been much of a boost to endgame. dynamis...assaults...salvage...znm....hnm.... etc blah blah blah. with these new additions the new engame will be a new challenge. keyword CHALLENGE!!! something else to work for. for years all people have been doing is go to dynamis ro some other endgame activity. have around 5-10 sets of relic armor. most they dont use they just have it because they got another job to 75 and some dont ever touch those jobs again except if they get bored of their main jobs.
ANOTHER thing with the higher level cap. all these extrenly hard NM's can eventually be soloed easier or just flat out easier to do. you wont need an alliance to get a swift belt. good luck making an alliance today for the new people. cuz 80% of players from the "old days" already have it. someone mentioned how hard it is these days to get promies done. and its true. not everyone knew or was able to get the expansion or play during the CoP golden months/years where getting a static was extremly easy. i still havent beaten CoP and would like to get a rajas ring for my samurai. with all the level caps being removed a wave of new people can work their way through CoP alot faster. getting a soboro will be easier too.
in the end you get 2 things whether you see it this way or not.
A high level players get a new challenge and a whole new playground.
B new players wont need enormous groups to get things as they were before.
if this makes you wanna quit fine. but saying SE stabbed you in the back is like saying the game gave you the flu if you have multiple 75 jobs then fine. you dont feel like leveling past 75 thats your choice SE isnt making you level up to 99. its giving you the option too. and honestly after os many years withthe same endgame over and over and over woudlnt it be nice to see a new endgame?
if ive got it all wrong please explain. maybe im just another idiot noob who doesnt understand the intricacy of being leet with only one 75 job.
EDIT: and yesi think that the ppl at 75 who are upset about this, the reason they are pissed is because they dont want a challenge.
I can't understand why its so hard for people to READ and UNDERSTAND what they read.
Hard to say why people are mad about the cap raise. A lot of it has to do with 6+ years of it being dorment and to only be given a worthless Merit system, and now to spring 25 more lvls on the playerbase on a struggling server, and so a top heavy server is a huge pain. Thats the second reason why people are a bit mad. There was a chance to inpliment it over the last 6 years when the top end was not so heavy and instead they wait til now.
Some of the other issues is based on gear, things like the Dynamis weapons, took players years and years to finally get it, an now all that time sink might be a huge waste because there is this huge area of 25 lvls where S.E needs to impliment stronger gear for mobs in order to keep players at a steady exp rate. That means gear some of which took a few years to aquire become a a dust collector.
Personally its not about challenge, to read such a thing makes me laugh. There was never any form of a challenge. It was more a thing of seeing if you could actually last long enough without becoming insane.
no offense but the arguemtne is a bit null. because if people bothered to read the vanafest site and read the info you would see that SE is adding Trial of the Magian so you cna upgrade your relic weapons and etc

"While players can expect quest difficulty to far exceed similar quests released thus far, we are confident the rewards will make it more than worth the while! "
Thats why some o fus are tunred off. You wouldn't understand dropping a handful of years and an insane amount of time and resources to upgrade the Relics and Mystic weapons. Just to be forced to go throw another decade of B.S for a chance for what, 1% less weapon delay, that really only calculates to about .001 total reduction. Go google what a player had to go threw just to get there gear, now you wanna force a level bump because you cant figure out what left to do with the 3/4 of your games population.
Its not only that its 7 years of dorment levels, My jobs have been 75 since Jan 04. With no real point to leveling other then capping exp, and for the most part some of the worthless merits I have ever seen.
Like I said we all have our reasons, mines revolves around just not being able to spend years in a dead game trying to improve something I was already told would not be topped.

Relic weapons where NEVER meant for the masses or the standard palyer. The amount of ancient currency that is needed to just upgrade one Relic needs one LS to do 2 runs a week for one year and the player would still need to buy some currency. They also have to get lucky on HQ drops. It NEVER was for everyone and whoever was commited enough (or should i say insane enough) to invest the time and resources did so KNOWING IN ADVANCE what he signed up for.
Running around now screaming, "I GOTS SCREEEEWD" makes me laugh. They NEVER said it will be 1% delay reduction, in fact, they have not disclosed anything about how these upgrades will work at all. Maybe they will affect Relic weapons more than normal weapons and you get 10% delay reduction, maybe not.
You can speculate as much as you want but in the end only SE knows what they are going to do and i doubt that they will make the Relic weapons useless. Looking at how the game has been handled up to now i seriously doubt it.
I don't know what game you have been playing since 2004, but i have yet to see any expansion destroy everything that we have accomplished so far.
Sure, some armor got replaced, we got more options now. However, players still go to sky for Byakko's Haidate and that piece is around 6 years old now.
In a nutshell, calm the ~eff down and wait until SE releases the exact details.
"Give players systems and tools instead of rails and rules"
AFter giving literally 1/3 of my RL for the last 4 years to this game, I feel nothing but disgust for this level cap increase.
Sure, it MAY increase new subscriptions, and MAY excite current, new-ish people, but it's a spit in the face of long-time vets.
Why? Because we all know SE will do nothing to 'compensate' all our Shura, Skadi, Homam, Ares, Nashira, (etc..) sets/pieces we worked SO hard to get. As well as those multi-million-gil resist sets / DMG reduction sets PLDs need for thier respective roles in endgame and the like.
..and I understand it's to be limited to these three new expansions, but anyone knows that this alone will cause the general population to push current endgame content into obsolesence. If not total obsolesence, the demand for these events will plummet to the point of scrounging together sub-par people for lackluster runs.
I cancelled my content IDs and am not looking back. I know of about 1/3 of my (unnamed) HNM LS that have done the same.
This is a blatant attempt by SE to drive us vets from this game in hopes that we join XIV at launch.
.
.
.
..and yes, I will likely play XIV when it releases, but they're not getitng one more cent from me for XI.
I think + 5 levels more is a lot of levels, when we are talking a game as hard as FFXI to level in. Newcomers will more likely take jobs that easily get invited... um wait that's not so bad, because then we will have lots of white mages
No the point is, what's gonna happen with not so party affective jobs?
There's always I chance for something new and exciting to happen, so I can always wait until tomorrow.

if you bothered to read my post and check teh site you CAN UPGRADE YOUR GEAR with trial of magians not making it obsolete.

again, you dont read. With incrased level cap you need less people to do the run. in the early eyars dynamis linkshells had a wait list for new people who wanted to join having all the slots taken for a 64man run. now its dwindled and your lucky if you cna fill the second alliance past a full outside party thats 16 less members. raising level cap makes for a shorter easier and not so anoying run. but maybe im jsut dumb and have no clue what im talking about.
I cancelled my content IDs and am not looking back. I know of about 1/3 of my (unnamed) HNM LS that have done the same.
I find this intersting considering an HNMLS would want a change of scenery now and then. not to mention the real notorious HNM linkshells like to be the first to kill new NM's but hey..what do i know.
This is a blatant attempt by SE to drive us vets from this game in hopes that we join XIV at launch.
yea sure. They give the vets new quests to upgrade their gear. new endgame. new level cap. i fail to see your reasoning

to summarize your post you dont read official info. not trying to hammer you. but as i stated before. people read forums and dont verify official information anymore. And when given a link to official information you either refuse to look at it or dotn bother reading it and are more inclined to see pictures than text.
I can't understand why its so hard for people to READ and UNDERSTAND what they read.
HNM LS's don't want a level cap raise because they're used to their weekly income from monopolizing and don't want to go level. It will encourage more competition from small groups and probably hurt their bottom line more.
This can only be good for XI. It gives capped players something to do besides endgame. It can potentially draw in new players. Even if it doesn't, once the new players reach level cap, they can do endgame activities like Dynamis and Salvage with less people. The hard to get Relic gear will not go to waste, it can be upgraded. To me it's a win/win/win >.>

In a nutshell, calm the ~eff down and wait until SE releases the exact details.
This is a blatant attempt by SE to drive us vets from this game in hopes that we join XIV at launch.

..and yes, I will likely play XIV when it releases, but they're not getitng one more cent from me for XI.

There's always I chance for something new and exciting to happen, so I can always wait until tomorrow.
to summarize your post you dont read official info. not trying to hammer you. but as i stated before. people read forums and dont verify official information anymore.
Personally i wish this update came a year ago.
