Sigh for FFXIV

    A) Whistle is not official name for the skill. It is a rough translation of the Japanese name not made by an SE employee.

    B) There are more hate abilities than just one in FFXIV. Hell yeah, let's give every class the same skill named Provoke, instead of making slightly different abilities to not make every class a copy of each other, like "Roaring Sword" and "Whistle".

    C) So every monster dies at the same time, and you can't drain MP from the already dead mobs while the group is fighting another monster nearby? The focus is on "party vs. party" encounters. Your rant is the only thing that is poorly thought out around here.

    D) Beta does not have all the features implemented, because they want to test SPECIFIC things, and having things that are of no use to the beta makes no sense. Facial customization being one of the things.

Why am I even bothering though...

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I played almost every MMO that is out there including FFXI. I was so excited for 14. I check my email daily for a beta invite and check their official site for updates. It seems everytime new info surfaces about the game it looks less and less appealing. We have gone from the classes we are used to playing in a FF game to european boxers? If that doesn't start to raise questions we got the Pugilist can steal? Your telling me a person with like foot long claws can reach into someone's pockets and take their money? ok... and also that person can tank...right.. whistle while u work? ok..
I understand the approach with FFXIV is to different from FFXI enough that its base of players will stay there while FFXIV builds its own as well. Understandable and don't get me wrong i think FFXIV gameplay will be amazing. Probably some of the best gameplay we have ever seen in a MMO. This doesn't change the fact the classes/characters are sketchy and lil unappealing. If I can't get into my character and enjoy him then I will lose interest as will everyone else and the game will go down the same path every post-WoW MMO has. I don't think FFXIV will fail. I do however think if it doesn't get proper info out there to secure the interest then people will come into their game with doubts and leave with hate.

Yes i was going to post on that yesterday, but i decided not to.The classes ,actually the entire game is pretty darn close to the exact same FFXI game, only they are removing levels and changing names of classes, abilties and moving them around the different classes.

Did we really need to change whistle a name used to call your Chocobo to replace Provoke?Whistle actually sounds dumb for naming a hate control mechanic. If anything maybe a Beastmaster type of ability, witch would be close to calling a pet ,it makes 100x more sense.

Something that is disturbing is that FFXI showed a LOT of thought behind every move, while FFXIV seems like a totally different person is behind the changes.Somebody inside Square is really putting their time stamp on this game.

One of the most glaring mistakes, that shows they put no thought or common sense to it is the ability to drain MP.Here is what they said, they did not like the fact that you NEEDED A puller,so they wanted to remove Camps.Well is that not why they made this new versatile class system,so you could have any class you needed?

Further more if you are going to create a MOVING camp system, why would you create mechanics like the drain mp to slow down the movement of camps? It is counter productive to itself.SO many other things in FFXIV seem to be poorly thought out.

This tells me someone new is influencing the decisions,or the challenge to bring us high end graphics and gaming has rushed the game design.I think the latter is obvious,as they said they don't even have some of the Character customization done yet?HUH?That is like something that would have been finished 1-2 years ago,so they definitely have been spending all their resources working the code and graphics and little on the game. They said they had to totally rework the code for the Xbox 360 and the new game engine,so it has been like making 2/3/4 games for Square to  work across PS3/Xbox and PC.

FFXI isn't as well thought out as you seem to believe...just look at how NIN turned out.

They also created this class system, not for the reasons you so uhhh...eloquently described, but so that they could steer their game away from the traditional tank, healer and damage dealer triad.  Read the interviews.  You seem very clueless.

And how do we know drain MP isn't an instant cast ability/spell?  There's a good possibility it is, seeing as how SE mentioned many spells/abilities can be used while on the go.  Depending on how the loot system works, the caster might have finished doing his drain MP by the time the group finishes looting.

O.M.G!!!  Different people and new influencing a NEW GAME?!  PREPOSTEROUS!  CALL THE HOUNDS!  Character creation is obviously not a focus in the beta for several reasons.  One, they finished testing something as simple as character creation in their internal alpha testing.  Two, character customization isn't what they want to focus on at the start of beta, but near the end.

And you have no f'ing idea how coding works.  That last bit you said is complete garbage.  If you knew anything, ANYTHING, about Crystal Tools, you wouldn't have said something so idiotic.  XIV was originally being developed for the PC, not like XI where they developed for the PS2 first, then PC and then 360.  No, this time it went PC, PS3 and maybe 360.

From what we can see, Crystal Tools does a magnificent job on making use of the PS3 resources, as we can clearly see from XIII.  Also, porting XIV from the PC to 360 should not be too much of a hassle.  Everyone and their grandma knows bringing a PC developed game to the 360 is relatively easy for most experienced programmers.  The 360 can run XIII no problems with Crystal Tools, so XIV should not be an issue.

with Win7 and WinLive for Games v2.1 a PC and the Xbox 360 are getting pretty synonymous with each other.

Really though SE needs this game to succeed to further the Final Fantasy series push

I for one will be playing it when it hits, I tried FFXI but it was so clunky to me I couldn't even get outta the starting town.

You all assume stealing something has to be done in secrecy.

I remember Final Fantasy IX had a steal system Zidane used.. and he wielded dual daggers and later on butterfly blades etc.. he ran up to an enemy in broad daylight.. stole something, and ran back..

What makes you think the monk-type class can't approach his enemy, deal a blow to knock him prone to the ground.. and steal something by force?

Not so unreliastic.. because being mugged on the street by force is still stealing.

Meh... Wizardry's been a doubting Thomas about FFXIV since as far back as I can remember. Every time a new bit of information is posted, he's right there ripping it apart, making his declarations about how it's wrong, or not thought out, or this... or that...

That said... I find the changes interesting. I still really am not sure what to make of the "changing roles on the fly" type thing.. I know you'll only be able to do it in passive mode, and not in attack mode.... but I dunno... will have to wait and see.

If these little things turn you off that badly then maybe you should stick with the lame mediocre formula that has been used for the last 10 years in MMO's.  It is the opposite to me.  Every time more info comes out I get more excited.  You probably won't read this and you seem to have already made your decision so enjoy whatever you play.
