"Expert scientists" now speculate that the Chilean Earthquake, which registered at 8.8 on the Richter Scale and is the seventh strongest earthquake in history, may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet. The quake should have moved our beloved planet's figure axis (the axis around which the Earth's mass is balanced) by a whopping 3 inches. This, in turn, will shorten the length of a day by 1.26 milliseconds. Yeah, laugh now, but when you die young, you'll know why - each day of your life was cut by 1.26 milliseconds, and that will add up to a lot over time. Doom to you if you want to be old! Doom I say!

No, it's not a problem, because the 2004 Indian Ocean "megathrust" earthquake slightly slowed the earth's rotation, thereby lengthening the day slightly. So you see, it all balances out. One earthquake shortens, one lengthens.
And before you respond, Dekron, we know your wife's nickname for you is "megathrust", right?
No, no. It's Massive Ordinance Penetrator. Megathrust is the motion.
Now... correct me if I'm wrong here, but if the days were shortened by the earthquakes, wouldn't that technically increase our lifespans? Shorter days occur faster, therefore totaling up more days in our lifetimes. More days in our lifetimes = higher age = longer life.
Nobody ever accused me of being a mathematician, however.
Isn't it all over in 2012 anyway?
Actually, if these earthquakes continue the way they have been, they could shorten all our lives.
There is no world, it blew up on 00:00 new years day of the year 2000.
We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
There is no world, it blew up on 00:00 new years day of the year 2000.
I thought that was when Skynet took over because it got pissed off about the whole date thing.
The earthquake shifted the Chilean city of Concepcion 10 feet to the west.
wicked
Why would we die young?
1. Our ageing is our own biological clock and not Earth time...
2. If it shortened the days then surely it would appear that we lived slightly longer seeing as over 80 years we might die 0.1 second later.
Anyways all of this is pointless and wont have any impact on life on this planet.
There is some worry all of this activity mite start to destabilize the Yellowstone region which is already a bit wonky lately. Thats one super volcano you dont want waking up early. We have evidence major earthquakes can wake up volcanos on the ring of fire and in peripheral regions due to a series of earthquakes seemingly always being connected to major eruptions in Asia and Russia. Bleh, wish I had that great article. On the plus side Im sitting in a zero ashdrop zone if it blows. Cant say the say the same for most of my friends.
Im in southern California and If i remember correctly from the Geography class, Yellowstone's eruption should be strong enough for us to get SOME ashes but we wont get gasses or anything. Ashes are nothing here in SoCal, we get then every summer with all of the wildfires.
Its still pretty crazy that we would see ash from so far away though. It gonna be a big one and due to global wind patterns most of the ash will flow to the east, leaving the west pretty much unharmed and blanket the East coast. Poor Indiana, New York, Mass, Rhode Island, etc etc etc.
I always thought SA would eventually ruin my life, I just figured it would be from Latin women and Blow.
Anyhow to clarify. No your life will not be longer. Time is subject to mankinds build of it. Cosmic scale of things it doesn't matter. Your life span is a span of cosmic days (Accidents and biological problems aside).
I really wish these countries would stop shaking, so sick of seeing these banners and every "star" crying for these people.
I didn't get any aid for the picture on my mantle that fell, why should I give aid to a country that hasn't supplied the right amount of blow required by my industry since 1987.
Seriously.
Because of the title I thought i was something serious. But when I read the article and some posts I laughed. All I can say is it's such a small thing to make a big fuss about. Everything will come to an end eventually.
It looks like the movie 2012 will be for real! O.O
