Almost every patch these days has included a wipe. What is going to happen when they break something after release? Many of the bugs that the previous patches has corrupted their database to the point the game has to get wiped.
This is one example. In a previous patch they added more skill systems for people to choose from. One of those skill systems were broken. Many people started aquiring that certain skill. They tried to fix the skill but were unable to, so they decided to wipe and erase all of the characters from the game to start from scratch. The reason they were unable to fix the problem was that their solution fixed some people while other people were left with the bugged skill, they were unable to resolve it so they wiped.
I would say 99% chance they WILL wipe after release because of what I have seen in the past and what they do to resolve the problems. They do not have the man-power to individually fix all of the small bugs while they are trying to release new content and updates.

Yes.
Characters may have progressed quicker than intended in beta and you need a fair starting point in a PvP game.
I don't think they will wipe after release. I believe that after the free month is over there will be so few folks left playing that it won't matter.

That is true, but not the point. The only way they fixed bugs that were left on the characters on the previous patches was to erase everything and start from scratch.
I just wonder what will the excuse be. "Its in beta" wont really fly anymore. "They are a indie company"? Makes no sense to me. We should pay for a bad product because it was made by developers with no experience?
We'll wait and see. I'm curious to see this unfold.
Not from my experience following the game, this is not a far reach, its a legit point. This has happened before because they were unable to find out how to fix the different bugs. Some people had it while others did not have it, so they wiped.
From their track record they will wipe multiple times as they are not skilled enough to correct the problems.
If a game gets wiped and there is no one there, did it really happen?

if they wipe after release people should not be surprised..server just ganked u noob
We will here "but it just got released!"
Edit:
They have used wipes as a way to fix things - to isolate the problem etc.. . the things don't get fixed. This should not be an option after release so then what.. . longer to fix issues. . manually fix the DB? ouch. . we will see
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
99% chance it will happen, "hope" will not work here.
I see what you did there
They'll wipe the characters when they introduce their item mall because they aren't making enough money off of the subs to release more patches.
I agree, the fans will not be able to keep the game alive. I would bet you $5 that the majority of the people that preordered the game will not subscribe past the first month. I would say 10 - 20 % will resub after the first month.
I am not sure an item mall would work...
I know a good few games that at the start did character wipes, and then refunded the time people had spent on it. Why?
Because some bugs aren't fixable no matter what you do as the data set was buggered in the first place or once fixed it corrupted the character database, or the conversion to the new system didn't work etc.
If it happens it happens, if not doesn't matter. Just petition for time wasted if they do wipe.
lol, they wont wipe after release.
What is the chance they will wipe multiple times after release?

How do you know? That is the only way they have fixed issues in the past. They would fix something, it would not fix everyone in the server and then they would have to wipe it. Happened many MANY times in the closed and open beta.

Wipes in Beta? wow whodathunkit?
as for live, I have yet to play a game that wipes the server after a game has gone live, at most a rollback has been done but never a full on server wipe

Ok, name the games that did Server wipes after launch?
I have yet to do one and I have been playing various MMO for nearly 20 years, so unless it was a F2P or summat I am interested in knowing which games did this

Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
not sure yet ,OP is promoing the game ,maybe hes working at SV or he thinks he got magical powers from that game in real life and can see to the future.maybe next thread will be " what is the chance they will not wipe multiple times after release?
who knows,we need to wait and see

thats exactly what i was thinking. who cares if they wipe the server during open beta. noone should expect to keep their characters from open beta to release. every MMO i have played had a fresh start with release and you didnt have people with characters that already had a months worth of play time on them.
i just got done playing it about 3 mins ago. its the most boring pos ive ever played. sandbox = empty world with nothing? beats me
not to mention i crashed every few minutes if i got anywhere near a city. oh yeah! and to top it off theres this guy named GODLY that hacks and magically appears out of nowhere if you are crafting or harvesting, 1 hits you and takes your shit then goes POOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so happy i preordered this piece of shit
Why not get a refund like many of us have?
