I would like to see even a PvP area in this game, regardless of balancing. See, when I play an MMO I want to have a point to spend all this time leveling up and getting "gear". Ok..so if it is PvE only, what is the point to have all this cool and and cool skills? Oh wait, right, so you will be able to get more cool armor and skills... PvP gives a point to MMOs.
WoW is a PvP game. PvE like Arena is a small part of the playerbase. Want a example? Well people only PvP'd in Arena to get gear for PvE, when they made PvE gear accessible people stopped PvPing. (Minus a BG when your bored here and there). I would say less then 10% of the total playbase prolly plays WoW for 100% PvP reasons.
I bet if WoW had the story integrity, detail, drama, and combat qualities of FF11 that other 90% wouldn't even miss PvP. Yes, FF11 is an outdated game, but in it's Prime it was one of the biggest, and imo the only thing that held it back was Ps2's limited Hardware. FF14 is doing things WoW players like, such as solo play,as well as added large group incentives and complex guild systems, something WoW lacks andwill try to counter with a Guild talent tree (LOL). Expect Blizzard to release Cata around FF14's release date, and expect some heavy copying of SE's ideas because they are scared.
SE has better polish and integrity then the mighty giant Blizzard, and it's prolly the only gaming company that I haven't lost faith in yet. Blizzard is a sell out, and broke it's balanace after vanilla FOR PvP. I think WoW would be ten times the game if it focused on what they did best, PvE. Half my friends arequitting once they kill Arthas, this includes several who exclusively used to arena. Don't be surprised if FF14 nips at Blizzard's heels.
I'd say SE is a bit of a sell out, but they're still not bending over in some cases, which is good. People can want PvP and jumping as much as they want, but SE does things their own way.
And if they didn't, we'd see World of AionFantasy XIV. So just be glad that it's like this people, and stop whining.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I'm not trying to be an angry fanboy, or attack you, just curious to what you think SE is selling out on? Also bored at working looking for stuff to read :P

Hm, it's just that SE will do what the customers want them to do for some part, even if it goes against the wishes of the developers. I'm sure the devs would still like to make the game mainly group based, but are adding solo content because that's what people want. They'd like to keep tweaking and expanding features they thought were good, but will remove them because the playerbase didn't like them much.
It's not really that bad, but we'll see how it turns out. So far, so good.

Don't see what's the problem with the lack of PvP. I love PvP, played several PvP based mmos and enjoyed them. But I mostly love a good game design and I'll be there for FFXIV. I'd rather have a game that does one thing well than a half-baked game that tries to do several things at once (we've had enough of those as of lately).
People keeps mentioning that it'll cut off half of the customer and won't make it #1. Well....I doubt SE is even aiming at WoW's numbers. Nowadays, devs know better. Sure, if it does, it'd be great, but it's unrealistic, so they'd rather aim for their console fans and FFXI players. In the end, FFXI has a steady 500k sub base, and believe it or not, that's a success for today's standards. Besides, if you really can't do without PvP, there are tons of other MMOs that offer that. Me, I'll be fine and if I really have that urge...FPS time. Or maybe some DotA

At least in FPS games the outcome is only a result of your playing skill, not your gear or abilities. Thus I don't even want to see PvP in MMORPG's, although in other genres where the playing field is more even I like some PvP action.

The only point of any game is to entertain.
Entertainment is subjective
and gear ruins the point of PvP.
