need help, which video card would be best for EVE?

chilly444chilly444 Member Posts: 20

I wanted to play EVE and i'm willing to upgrade my graphics card (from an old malfunctioning GeForce 5900FX which doesn't run EvE) but having an old computer i only have an AGP card slot, i can find two cheap video cards, one from Nvidia and one from ATI which is better?

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 1 gig AGP

or

512MB PNY VERTO GEFORCE 7300GT

edit: Or would it be cheaper to buy a 20-30 dollar mother board and a 20-30 dollar video card (such as GeForce 7300LE)

Yeah, its just that i'm leaving to join the airforce in a few months and i don't want to spend any money on something i can't keep. I'm building a new one from the ground up in a few months

If you check out Craigslist.org in your area, you might be able to find a nvidia 7800 or 7900 in AGP.  They are still pretty decent video cards that will play a lot of stuff.  They usually sell for $30-35. Good luck and thanks for serving the rest of the country by entering the Armed Services.

You need a card that supports Shader Model 2.0 Graphics cards.  Make sure your new card  supports that.  I listed the requirements for Eve to help ya.  Craigslist rocks!

    Minimum System Requirements:

    OS: Windows® XP Service Pack 2 / Vista / 7

CPU: Intel Pentium® or AMD @ 1,5 Ghz

    RAM: XP (SP2) – 1 GB / Vista – 1.5 GB

    HD space: 6gig Free Space

Network: 56k modem or better Internet connection

Video: 64 MB Shader Model 2.0 Graphics cards such as GeForce FX (5 series) class card or higher, ATi 9500, x300 series or higher and Similar chips from other manufacturers

Drivers: DirectX® 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers

DVD-ROM : 2 speed DVD reader or greater required.

Recommended system configuration for running EVE Online:

    OS: Windows® XP Service Pack 2 / Vista / 7

CPU: Intel Pentium® or AMD dual core @ 2 Ghz

    RAM: 2 GB

    HD space: 6gig Free Space

    Network: ADSL connection or faster

Video: 256 MB Shader Model 3.0 Graphics cards such as GeForce 8 class card or higher, ATi 3000 series or higher and Similar chips from other manufacturers

Drivers: DirectX® 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers

DVD-ROM : 2 speed DVD reader or greater required.

The minimum screen resolution for EVE is 1024x768.

Audio hardware must support SSE and be Direct Sound compatible. For optimum performance, use latest drivers available.

Please note that Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and 2000 are not supported.

mm agp are still made since they were insanelly fast they are still very quick even today pcie1 doesnt beat agp contrary to popular belief, and pcie2 might opull ahead(i say might)

so if you use 32 bit os find a 512 mb agp card

if your run a 64 bit run a 1 gb agp card

you would be surprise the support agp still get .get one they are decently priced and as long as the card is a new model you ll have as much fun as the next guy with his intel i5 since the main issue we face is elsewhere a bran new computer isnt gona be a lot faster in the mmo world then an old computer.

yep game havent evolved at all since 2003 .

i think its worth it if your computer is running good .just make sure to use proper setting since agp is a completelly diff beast then pcie

its as good as pcie but set completelly differently.make sure you use the most recent bios and that you optimised bios setting

since often bios setting are set very concervativelly on some setting and too agressive on other

last make sure you got enought power for your new card

    proper voltage and proper amperage!

    newegg.com or

newegg.ca are fair site to find brand new agp graphic card try to stay with asus or gigabyte if you can!

    http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=pAsBPAoZ7MObqZTY&templete=2

    http://www.giga-byte.ca/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3088

sorry if i havent found nvidia might have some but havent found any yet these link i supplied are some if not the best agp card avail today unbless there are other good graphic card maker that have newer model avail!

You will also need a dual core+ cpu if you are planning to join big fleets in the future.

depends on the level of graphics you want.

I know tons of people on old laptops, who do pvp in large fleet battles.  But they have everything turned to minimun, sound off, brackets off, zoomed all the way out.. etc.. theres lots of things you can do to make it look worse.

My old desktop (which my paranoid a$$ has kept to run offline with sensitive personal info on it) has a 7800 and it ran EVE great.
