R.U.S.E Beta

Hi all, am playing the R.U.S.E beta as its a game that has intrigued me for awhile but now i'm playing it i'm just not sure.  The reasons thus far - and i know its a beta so things could change - are that the super tanks are just way overpowered compared to every other unit, even the anti-tank units are no match for the super tank.  I win most of my matches against the AI using super tanks and even though the AI adapts and builds anti-tank vehicles and anti-tank guns close to their bases I can still destroy them 2:1.   The other thing that i think needs an improvement on is the RUSE system itself, it needs more use, at the moment i only use 1-2 ruses a battle, although that could be due to the fact that the tank units are overpowered.

Whats everyone elses thoughts on this novel game?

Actually the anti-tank units do seem a little underpowered, with weak armor, damage and range in comparison to top tier tanks. As it is you might get a few kills from upgraded anti-tank batteries (which do have good range) or a lucky ambush hit with anything else anti-tank, but most of the time they're wasted resources.

There are much more effective means of dealing with tanks right now: artillery, bombers/fighter-bombers and infantry ambushes. No anti-air with your tanks means dead tanks. Infantry in the forest means dead tanks. Tanks standing still means dead tanks.

That being said - you're playing a game that is designed for online multiplayer against the AI. Take it online and you'll see that ruses are the difference between victory and defeat. I played my first match yesterday (3v3) and there were only a few rare moments when we didn't have 3 ruses going per player on the field. Most everyone has permanent blitz going on their base for quick supply/build and there was some great use of ruses in attacks (and defensive ambushes) on both sides.

I used shroud and fight-to-the-death and had just four infantry units almost annihilate a 16 infantry unit force, then they ran from the forest... straight into my tank line. Likewise, they used two air assault ruses to attack my base, while they sent in every air unit they had, also at my base. Does not make much sense, until you realize that your anti-air batteries and fighter-bombers are so busy shooting down fakes that the real ones just glide on through and decimate your base.

More importantly: what's with the APM (actions per minute) tracking? R.U.S.E. is a slow-paced strategy game that focuses on strategy over tactics, much like Supreme Commander. It's fast-paced strategy games focused on tactics, like StarCraft or Dawn of War, that require high APM to effectively organize your army, base and recon. A high APM in StarCraft means you're either an experience player with some level of skill, or have attention-deficit disorder. A high APM in R.U.S.E. means that you're clicking like crazy because your tanks aren't moving fast enough and you've already used blitz in another region.

Dunno what the hype is with this game.. maybe im just old.. its a very boring strategy game with few items, and just stupid tactics that may or may not win the game... Why is it holding a $50 price tag? Its nothing new, its nothing special.. and its UBISOFT DRM lol

Guess thats why its $50 a $9.99 game and 49.9 worth of antipiracy measures to piss ya off. Aint even fun.. Hey mom, i'm getting rushed again..

Ruse is a very good rts game. game is well balanced for a beta, even for a released title. It mostly focuses on online play, but there will be a campaign and skrimish, but game mostly focuses on multiplayer so drm isnt really that annoying as in single player focused games

If u of course ignore the noobs that play a few games and go to forums to whine...

Games has great depth and it may not focus on micro but this game is a real strategy game imo. There are many viable build orders in competitive play and its not like the most micro oriented games where in 80% of high level games you see people making 1 build order always against a certain faction and spamming the planned units, the only thing these games had was micro.
