Check out Gaming news mixed with funny SNL type skits from MMOCIA

Whats up MMO RPG fans,

Me and my friends are trying to put a show concept together that would have MMO gaming news with SNL/Kids in the hall type funny skits for entertainment, check it out and tell us what you think.  Any comments or ideas would help!  Thanks!

This video includes Warcraft News with a funny "former Blizzard Employee" character for the special guest (Be warned though, this one contain adult like humor so people under the age of 18 shouldn't watch this one.)

This video contains Tera Online News with a funny "Amish MMO reviewer" character for the special guest

Amish MMO reviewer was great stuff!  Sorcery!   That's the pepper!  Not sure what that means bit I laughed. . the well timed groaning.

I think the set up for roles was better the second time around.  Also less scripted news would be better.  I am sure you don't want to miss details but it is a little cardboard when you are reading.  The first video had some bad hiss to the sound. . the second seemed better.  Maybe I didn't like the first one as much because it was spe cific to WoW and I haven't been keeping up.

Overall good job. . the second one much better.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!

Says first cut but seemed to flow better.

You know, I liked that cut too but my face was puffed out on the left side of my face from getting my wisdom tooth removed so I was like - hey we gotta cut that so theres no close ups I look ridiculous.  Thanks for watching!

The only part where are really laughed was over the hernia.

"see, what I did last night was rub corn on it. That's how you cure those things".

Also, in the first one where he sits and looks at the toys and says "oh, what do we have here? An old fashioned Jedi Battle (or some such thing) we dont' need to have him say that.

It would have been funnier if he just came in, put on his mic and then noticed the toys. Maybe looked around a bit then grabbed one to look it over. Suddenly he stops. Looks at another on the table and then with zeal start going after it with the star wars sounds.

The comedy is sometimes in the actions. No exposition needed.

Wow, we were cracking up during the Warcraft employee part so much we could hardly get through it because it was so ridiculous, I guess everyone's humor is different.  Thanks for watching though!

    see my edit above.

as far as the humor being different, sometimes, but remember what you are experiencing is far different than what we are experiencing. Not only do you know the skit but your energy is already high and you are having a good time. But we are experiencing this for the first time and we don't have the level of energy or love (yet) for the material.

In any case, keep up the good work.

edti: I rewatched the world of warcraft skit. The puppet part was ineed funny but I think what takes the air out of it is that the actors are smiling. This might someitmes be forgiven on SNL because it is live and there is a different type of energy. But it let's us know it is a joke and that blunts the humor a bit.

I would say that I like the dfferent character's in general and the interviewer has some great faces and nice responses when he is indeed the straight man.

what is that? A corona? That worked for me.

Thats the exact kind of constructive criticism we were looking for - we'll definitely work on those points, Thanks!

LOL Yeah - The story behind this sketch is that we came up with a weeks worth of material then found out last minute we couldn't get costumes (but we will have them for the next episode)  So we said - well, we have to do something?? So we came up with that little sketch right there on the spot and shot it, we had not even rehearsed, we were like ok put the camera on us and lets go, it was improv at its (worst?) anyhow, we wanted to get that live feel plus we didn't know if we could do it that funny again so there you have it improv blooper/whatever, but yeah in the future the material will look a lot more polished.

    Thanks again!

You might just think of doing a light bit of writing but mostly improving, running it a few times and then editing.

Some of the best things can come out of improv if people stick with their characters. This is not to say that well crafted writing isn't desired but then you run into the other problem that it sounds rehearsed and that the players are saying lines as opposed to acting/reacting to the situation.

I did like the improv feel it was loose and fun, but we certainly need to clean up the smiling during the shoot - you make a good point there.  Next shoot we have a really funny one involving Star Trek Online thats already written up, hopefully the news we use for the bit isn't stale by then so stay tuned!

    Was pretty good. Subscribed.

The reading of the actual news was a little wooden though, the skits were the better more fluid parts.

Yeah we are working to find better ways to make the news more lively and interesting as well as more natural, we don't like how MMO news looks on video anywhere as it stands, like G4 etc, which is what sparked the idea to do it with skits and things of that nature, kind of like "The Daily Show" of MMO news - (or something), something thats fun to watch as well as being informative.

    Thanks for watching!

The first one I saw confused me at first.  Once I caught on, I thought it was good fun, albeit still a wee bit amateurish.  But this is how you get started, no?  I'm sure most comics fall flat on their face the first time they stand in front of an audience. My husband recently introduced me to a Scottish comic named Limmy who has a Facebook page that I'm addicted to now. Might consider doing that, too.  If you get things like this to fall into place, sometimes they can become really popular.  People self-publish online all the time now - music, books, games, films, etc. - this is just another facet of self-published entertainment and I like that sort of thing.

Thanks for taking time out to watch it Signe, and we are totally amaturish lol, not just wee bit, but we are trying to get better with every episode!

Heres a link to our facebook page: www.facebook.com/home.php and we started up a web page here: www.mmocia.com/ once we have people coming into the web site on a regular basis we intend on having interactions with the fans of the page where we talk to them through the characters we are creating, so it should be pretty fun.

Like you said, this is a great forum (the internet) to get a project like this off the ground, we feel we are trying something original in this format and fun by telling informative news items in the world of MMO RPGs with some entertainment as well, so tell your friends to come and check it out, and feel free to post comments and constructive criticism because the gamer is our target audience and we definitely wanna get you laughing, so we would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks!

Keep up the good work. I think you need a more exciting set. Get a green screen, and put up pictures behind you of the games you are talking about.

Green screen is pretty easy, and it doesn't have to look perfect. It would be more interesting than the black curtain.

Funny that you said that because we are looking into that actually, we may have some green screen within the next two weeks, if we can get it all figured out.  I too think it will make the end product look 10 times better.  If you liked what you saw make sure and check us out next monday either on youtube or mmocia.com, we will be putting out a funny show based on recent Star Trek Online news and you wont believe what we are going to have these Star Trek guys do, its going to be hillarious,

    Thanks for watching!
