How did the new patch do?

Agricola1Agricola1 Member UncommonPosts: 4,977

I'm curious about MO and was wondering about wether the patch on Monday has actually done what they said and cleared up some issues? As A hardcore DFO player MO intrigues me and if it was in a decent playable state I'd probably subscribe to it.

So what I want is no fanboism, no haters, no marketing bullshit just tell me what the situation is with the patch and what you think of MO right now compared to DFO if you've played it,

Thanks.

Check out the video posted here:

Some people have reported being able to play the game without much trouble, but as you can see in this video, there are still some big issues for others. I'd personally try the open beta before release and see how badly you're affected. Remember, this is the 3rd or 4th patch they've released to try and fix this and it's still affecting people so I personally wouldn't hold out much hope of them completely fixing the problems before launch.

I found somethings fixed and some things worse than before.  At least the changes might help them figure it out.  On closed beta I had no issues and enjoyed playing a lot.  The "diamond in the rough" right now is unfortunately covered with a steaming pile of network/code issues.

The game is good.  The current state is not.  I hope they can fix it. . but so far most patches that have introduced changes or fixes have also had side effects of almost equal damage to gameplay.  If it helps them narrow down the problem great.  If that kind of patching happens after release they are going to have some issues.  I hope they heave the beta open  for at least a week once they get the desync fixed.

Just get your client and try for yourselves while its still open beta. That way you will be able to judeg it yourself without any bullshit from people.

For me after the patch, once i go through characet selection i'm stuck on loading world.
Well, that is what i thought after few tries. In fact it is loading just fine but displays loading screen all the time. I wouldn't notice it loaded fine if i didnt fell asleep waiting for it to load and moved my mouse while banging my head on the table...

So the game is open beta ATM? No charge?

You have to make an account at the store but you do not need to purchase anything.

Running MO on 2 comps one my gaming rig, i7 865 295 gtx 12 ddr 3 on win7 64bit, had loads of nowgame.exe crashs and launcher failing to install, turned off win UAC rebooted and launcher issues cleared and 6 hours in game no nowgame.exe crashs...Desynch issues never had them, lag was low...

However on my wifes computer, a quad core 2.83, 4 gig ddr2 win vista 32bit oh and a ATI 5770, game runs like a bag of shit, desynching and lag in towns.

I know my wife comp bottlenecks to buggery, but want to try MO on my comp with win7 32bit or vista 32 bit...but well its a bit of a pain in the ass to be honest and MEH lol.

THere is alot more wildlife, but very spread out, yet again is this the realism hardcore niche they are going for, in real life you wouldnt be knee deep in animals in the wilds, or lack of added content...I believe both to be correct myself.

Crafting, is amazing, its huge and complex....One has to ask if they spent less time fart arsing about coming up with 7,000 different ways to make a sword, the game may be a bit further along in other areas, but kudos for the crafting despite that, its the crafting that made me sign up.

Textures and landscape or slowly being eased up, big improvements in distance view and sky, issues that made night time a joke have been made less harsh, but does require you changing a  FALSE to TRUE in an ini file.

This in essense making other light sources actual well source light lol, down side to that is asking people not experienced in Beta,s and indeed computers in general to go to an INI file, bit of a turn off for some, if they managed to even look up the issue in forums in the first place.

First person view, I hated it, now I see why they did it, I understand, still not a huge fan, mainly because my feet are so dam ugly, and all I can dam well see of me is my feet for 30 or 40 mins while I,m out gathering ore....Charactors need some overpasses, beards have to be place holders, at least I hope, and the texturing is better but still crude.

I am in a clan, I think for this type of game, its more than just a bit important, you cant do everything yourself, game was designed that way, so like EvE if you lone wolf you dont get the whole design, we have been working on pallasides and keeps and the process is a big group investment, like the player villages as a whole.

I still give MO 4 out of 10 but I am getting the bigger design picture and scope, wether this actualy comes to full fruition is a matter of long debate, but i,m going to take part and see if this thing will in fact fly, hope so the scope is huge, and there layth the problem as well.

Hope that helps Agricola1, tried to give a fullest picture as possible from my point of view, as your posts are normaly of a high cailber, dont mind giving a mini review of game and tech issues.

I just tried logging in and playing for the 10th time about now (once for each patch).  Every time I expect the game to take a giant leap, and while the game is more responsive, it has yet to keep me interested longer than 10 minutes even though  I force myself to play about an hour to see if it improves as I explore.  It doesn't.

If they want to remotely compete with the rest of the market they need to fix a whole lot more before launch.

This is very accurate - knowing this going in should help you make an informed decision.  Give the game a few hours though. . a lot of people that complain log out after 20 minutes.  I found after investing sometimes and seeing the bigger picture as suggested by Kruler. . you will find more you like.

Just got in for the first time with the new patch and now it seems that it crashing issues almost completely! I'm running around fabernum with all the current texture settings maxed around average fps of 40 and still haven't got any crashes, tryed to do a lot of different moves to crash the game.

Lag has been greatly reduced, it seems to change quite a bit that does it lag or doesn't it lag. It changes a lot but this patch made the game dozen times more playable. Even if there is slight desync issues it needs to be fixed, hopefully epic will take their time on this one.

You can burn me, but i wont die.

It is Starvault that is to blame for the lag, epic just licenses it off to them.

Actually as it seems now, it is heavily dependent on epic games. I will get confirmation.

Not true, they are licensing an engine from epic that was designed for FPS games on small maps (unreal tournament)

How and why is it epic's fault?  Starvault wanted to make a game using an engine that was not designed for a huge MMO.  Blame it on Starvault, it is not epic's engine's fault.

No, its on SV- Still.... Its their project, their game, their incompetence.... As someone pointed out, they are merely communicating with Epic Technical Support but Epic is not going to go through every line of code and fix their game for them.

Again, its never SV's fault... Ever.

They booted me for yet another config patch. They say they're testing things out, so who knows what the hell they're doing. After monday's patch, all my desynch issues went away except.....I can no longer loot ANYTHING. GJ. Plus this game has the most OP gazelles I've ever seen in my life. Starting mobs should never give you a brush with death after one fight. First mob, and it almost kills me because the stamina drain on melee attacks(something they say in their patcher should no longer occur) wipes out all your energy to where you have to stand there and just get whooped.

    Exactly... 100% correct...

Well I'm downloading the open beta now and will give it a whirl and a quick comparison to Darkfall.

They are doing a lot of changes atm to get the desync out. So if you log in now you most likely will play in very desynced enviroment.

    some quotes:
Hello.

We have made some further updates on the desync issue.

Please retry the game and give us new feedback on how it performs for you.

We updated the server 16:15 GMT+1 (about 15 min ago,) thats why we want new feedback now.

We found out a zone issue which we will solve tomorrow, I think it was around fabernum. As long as we can verify the desync is way better now overall.
So yeah, it will be laggy to at least tomorrow. This current desync issue is the biggest issue what Mortal Online at the moment has. But they are keeping us updated and epic games is working on it as well.

No. It can.Very different.  Of course, I assume we all hope this patch to be the good one, but it's possible not. Don't be over pessimistic, or optimistic. Just wait & see, as usual.

Similar to the last patches results, I can no longer get into the game.  It crashes while loading after character selection.

I had hopes this patch was going to fix my issues, now I will believe it when I see it.  This is disappointing as I was really hoping to give this game a shot.

People are starting to finally realize what has happened since the beginning of block A in the closed beta.

Have you try to decrease your graphical settings?
