Cryptic Studios has announced special "Thank You" perks for Lifetime Subscribers of Champions Online. The new perks, which will be released later this month, include: an exclusive in-game chat channel, front-of-queue support, an in-game title, an in-game VIP lounge, and a unique costume piece.
The front-of-queue support is perhaps the most interesting benefit, as it will allow lifetime subscribers to jump to the front of the queue if they encounter queues when attempting to log in.

I liked Champions Online. I still want to PLAY it. (Not enough money right now.)
Making characters in that game is just plain fun, the vision I have in my head can really be put down into existance really really well! Which most MMOs can't come close to providing me.
The feeling inside the game was "fun" too, I thought the combat was enjoyable to do and watch.
The only thing I can really complain about it is it seemed like Cryptic just "shat" the game out and then forgot about it.
I'm not a lifetime subscriber... but I think those who ARE... deserve even more than these few things. Cryptic really owes them.
I just saw this on STO as well. My first thought was that the front-of-queue thing could turn into another PR roadbump for Cryptic. It is one thing to give priority server access when you have different tiers of subscriptions (like premium for $14.99/month, normal for 9.99/month, and free), but the lifetime subscribers essentially just paid in advance in the hope that it would work to their benefit in the long run.
While I think they do deserve something for taking that plunge (especially the way Cryptic did it with STO), I'm not sure I would put priority access on the list.
As for the in-game chat channel and lounge, I can see it having an interesting social impact. I would think a developer would try to bring their community together rather than dividing into cliques, but I suppose that happens anyway. This is just the devs drawing the line across the room rather than the players.
Wow! This makes me sad i didnt go for lifetime deal!
I mean i am sick and tired waiting in queue to enter all those overcrowded servers !
Where do I send the bill for a new sarcasm meter? I think you just broke mine.
Well... they gave extra stuff to lifetime subscribers, they're just making it even with CO players, though they haven't been around for much longer than their new IP-based revenue game project.
They sure enjoy making it look like a $300 retail game, I always thought the not-playing-monthly-fees-and-enjoy-free-gaming-in-16-months was already enough.
Some of those do seem a bit comical, especially the queue thing! Just read that they did this in STO too.
"front-of-queue support"
I don't think that has to do with server queues. I think it is for support tickets (in game or out, I am not sure). Either way, not a huge boon.
Yeah. I didn't think it was for the server queues, but for support ticket queues. Anyway, that's the way I understood it. Jumping to the head of a server queue with no one waiting really isn't that great....
Here is the clarification from Stormshade, the community manager, on the official forums:
"Also, in regards to the front of queue support: This is only for the login server. It won't affect PvP queues or any other in-game queue, only the login server queue."
I agree that the gesture is only meaningful in principle, since we have never had log-in queues for CO. But they have had them for STO, and they are giving the same perks to lifetimers in both games.
Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.

Oh, my bad...pretty useless perk then.
I think its totally awesome that you buy the game pay the standard monthly fee and you get treated as a 2nd class customer.
I have more thoughts on this but I'm going to write it up and make another thread (ala Subs Plus)

Not to say I'm in love with STO, but at least I have played the game enough to know if a comment comes from someone who played or someone who 'guessed' based upon forum 'vibe'.
Dont even worry about being a 2nd class citizen, because this has the makings of going f2p all over it, i have seen this trend before on other sub games right before they announce the F2P option, i doubt it will happen anytime soon but i feel like they will go the DDO way, sucks cause im a lifer and i still think all of this stuff besides que frontline suck's and lifer chat channel,... really
Watching this developer flailing around in attempts at damage control is like watching old re-runs of F Troop. I can't help but think that this latest wrinkle is an attempt at softening the blow for the Lifetimers before they pull their next stunt.

amen, i mean Lifers are STILL waiting o nthat "cosed STO beta" access and their "mirror universe costumes"
