General: Need for Speed World: Beta Announced

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

Electronic Arts blew the doors open on Need for Speed World today. Need for Speed World is, of course, their upcoming MMO racer based on the Need for Speed IP.

Need for Speed World will feature single & co-op racing (teams) and even "epic online pursuits." We're not sure what that last one means yet, but it certainly sounds interesting.

The game's website is replete with new screenshots, as well as a trailer. But we know what you're really after -- beta! And EA doesn't disappoint here, as you can also sign up for beta beginning today! What're you waiting for? Start your engines!

View the original announcement here. You can view the new trailer here.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

Heck! This one brings back so many memories xD NFS Most Wanted FTW ! I rly hope this is the exact same game but instead of single player somekind of "MMO" ( I don't rly think it will be open world ) . Just checked the trailer and it seems they'v added some power-up s--t :( . Totally ruined the game for me

you should really fix some errors there and what exactly does "EA doesn't support here" means??

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227

Could be interesting, while i am sure it will not be  a Motor City Online 2 it can still be a good game.

This have been a good conversation

I applied. Always been a big NFS fan. I just wish/hope this will be available on PS3, I prefer console controllers and playing on a bigger screen for my racing games.

Does anyone remember Motor City Online? It didn't last long, but it had some potential. Hopefully lag won't kill off the ability to actually race (again), but we'll see.

A little presumptuous much?  Would you say pizza sucks without trying it first? Games don't need people like you anyways. It sounds like you had some bias against EA or racing before you even started, so why give it a try right? If you base your judgement on trailers, which is stupid, there is no hope.

Unless you can go out of the cars and have a "real" character with you can move in the streets and who knows how can this be an mmo?

I'm pretty sure it will be lobby based or instanced, would you imagine 1 million cars on the same track?

But if they make you go out of the cars and do quests/whatever I think it could turn into something similar to grand theft auto imo.

To take part in the beta, I have to install a program that profiles my computer and keeps sending them information?

I don't like the sound of that...

Why not just ask people what computer they have? That works for most other beta. Installing programs which are designed to gather information about my system in an amount and way I can't really control and sending them off somewhere... nah

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I doubt that is what they want or even hope for, completely missed the point of the game being Need for Speed...

Yeah probably like I said lobby based or heavily instanced, just hope it won't be player made hosts and claimed as "mmo".

Well at least there's the single player to play with if online mode sucks or gets closed (hellgate london).

  • RyukanRyukan Member UncommonPosts: 858

Wow, they will slap the label 'MMO' on just about anything these days. At least the open chat will only be filled with crap talk half the time, hard to chat crap (talk shit) when you're busy controlling your ride. Seriously though, who actually uses the controller anymore for racing games, gotta break down for the wheel periphials at least hehe.

Probably in the same way that MW2 multiplayer is kind of an MMO. You have a persistent character which you progress by leveling up and getting better gear and/or skills and you play/compete with thousands of other players.

I don't see what instancing or even being lobby based has to do with being an MMO. You don't need to see a million characters in front of you in the game world, you just need a means to interact with them. A chatbox fits this need sufficiently.

As I mentioned before, Motor City Online. This sounds almost exactly like that game. Only now they might have the means to make a game like that actually work.

Nope the meaning of mmo has changed throughout the years, for me if in every map you can see players not only when invited that's an mmo but

if it''s instanced or lobby based then no it's not an mmo maybe mog (multiplayer online game) but not mmo.
