Well just started the OB and I've found the character creation to be excellent. So far the only things I've worked out are how to kill a domesticated pig and loot it and ressurect myself at a priest. However I'm pretty stumped as to basic controls and what I should be doing also how do stats increase and at what rate and just basic stuff.
I know it's a pain but any tips would be welcome,
Thankyou.

Stat increasing is basically the same as DF from what I understand, using a skill raises it.
I assume what is best when you start is to start gathering and trading to equip yourself. As you get more gear and skills I guess you move out into the wilderness and start getting better materials etc..
I'm only guessing here, as I didn't last long in OB. I guess I got killed and quit. Not really but I just wasn't Hardcore enough.

ok first of all calm down, it's only beta.
second of all if you are sick of getting your ass kicked by every pig/squirrel you try to kill just spend a few hour killing the first priest you find. you can pretty much max all your fighting skills that way in a few hours :P. the good thing? priests dont fight back. after taht you have to spend some time farming animal pelts/bones/etc and chopping wood/mining so you can sell it and make some gold. Npcs dont just buy anything you have, but they do buy certain kinds of wood (can't remember the name) and certain animal loot so you just have to figure out which ones to farm. ask arround. once you have some gold you can go see what the different npc have for sale. good luck.
By stats you eiter meen skills or attributes.
You got X amount of Attrib points depend on size to spend.
Different races, ages etc. gives different max attribute to spend in that one pool.
Different attributes got different bonuses aswell..
Anyways, the attribute points gets up from the skills your useing.
So if you hit L and check out your skills you got. You will noticed some is affected by dex int etc.
The attribute its affected by is allso the attribute you gain, but the gain is different speed for differnt things., Due to dex from riding were too easy to get that way, its been nerfed a lil, so you no longer gets uber dex in 5 mins from riding a grown donkey.,
Allso if i remember right, you only get attribute points from the pool of your Active skills and not your passive/secondary skills.
Well it's a bit confusing, I'm coming from Darkfall and it seems alot more in depth than DFO. So far I've learnt to kill and loot and rest and am now logging wood. I've been killed a few times by guards for no apparent reason and found hitting the priest is no good since people jump in the way and call the guard all the time
The game is alot tougher and slower paced compared to DFO, I hope the combat speeds up later as right now it's a bit of a snooze fest! Overall I like the game though, if only for the naked Elf chicks + full nudity

come on man stop making me laugh so hard.
how about you pick a priest far away from a city? not hard to find.
yea full nudity is cool EXCEPT that you can't see yourself....ever. those with a foot fetish will be happy.
as for speed, this whole game feels like the battle of the medieval turtles, that's why you dont see anyone actually fighting. they just wait till you hit them and then call a guard. not even gonna get into the dysinch/lag/ping problems where you have to aim at were you enemy will be in 2 seconds in order to actually hit him.
you also rarely see people harvesting since it's much easier to stand besides some one that is harvesting and pick his pockets clean in a few seconds. yes the ideas in the game are all nice and you can see that there is potential for depth BUT, the game mechanics and world details are horrible as it stands right now. ....and SV moves soooooo slow at fixing stuff.
press l to see your skills. stats and skills do not display when the increase. . there is no oncreen message.
One major difference is that in MO you can raise skills/stats relatively fast but you only have 1000 points to spend. you have to set skills to raise lower like UO. . so if you hit the cap. . which you can do quickly set something to lower.
Only primary skills count toward the cap.. these are the parent skills that restrict your use of secondary skills.
The combat gets faster with better weapns but is still slow compared to DF I like both. MOs is a little more realistic. . . but is it more fun. . not sure yet.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
hehehe...
Here is a noob booklet from you, it's a little out of date (lots of things had been added since) but it can help. If you dig MoFo, yuo should find also a video tutorial, created by fans, with a sexy chick talking.

Heya Agricola, glad to hear that! But I must inform you about the combat that it is very highly related to your characters attributes and combat skills which you are learned. Also weapon matters tons. If you manage to get stats up and then rob / make a two handed sword for example, with crafting skills over 40+, you start to see how it really is It changes a lot from start, it's completely different.

How do I know how other players are flagged to me? Right now I can't tell how they or I are flagged which is why I probably end up getting the crap beaten out of me by the guard all the time! Is there any easy way? Is there an option so I can see peoples names above their heads without having to tab on them?

Press "Tab" to target them. Their flag will show up on the top right of your screen, along with their name. As for your own flag, it's on the center-top of your screen. You can also press "H" and look at "Flagging" to see the various definitions for each flags.

Thanks, I know the definitions just didn't know where it said how I was flagged at the time, probably why I've taken several trips to the etherworld!
