What i liked:
Forgot what having a map felt like. Felt good.
Wow. They actually notify me when my skills increase.
I didnt die in 4 hits in my first fight. (Mortal Online doesn't really explain how you can really gimp yourself by not choosing the right stats. It's a learning experience.)
Character customization is by far..... waaaay ahead of Mortal Online. (Not that MO doesn't have alot of options. They just aren't that noticeable.) I couldn't resist playing the Mahirim Race. "there's a she wolf in your closet" Bonus for knowing what song that is
I can sprint for more than 3 seconds.
Right clicking your mouse to enter and exit interface mode is sheer genius. Genius!!!
Control felt smooth and seamless and so did combat. Lol at the Leaf blade starter sword.
Actually, the only thing i didn't like was the graphics style. The graphics are amazing dont get me wrong but... I guess because i played MO first: I've gotten so used to realistic graphics. Realistic everything for that matter.
Also, the town i started in was sort of empty. Started in the northern town (for Mahirims. Seeing how easily and swiftly death comes in MO, I didn't feel that same adrenaline, and having to watch my back in Darkfall. Though i only played for 2 hours. That's my quick assessment. Loving the game though.
Oh and PayPal did the trick. For those that helped me with the credit card issue.

Yep, Darkfall is the best... now, enjoy the ride because the game's only going to get better.
I'm a little concerned about people learning every skill??? So everyone will know everything that i know and nothing separates me from them. I don't care about flashy armor but if i am using a bow and i see a mage, the mage can just whip out his own bow and match me shot for shot?
I actually don't want to be a jack of all trades. MO has caps. Eventually i will become a God that knows everything? WHat's up with that? People enjoy that?

Yep. i am enjoying that. Makes me blame myself if i loose a fight because i have access to same skills / weapons /armor then everyone else.It is also satisfying to have the full control over my chars abilities not hindered by artificial limitations.

Ahh i see what you did there. It becomes sort of a, use the right tool to get the job done, kind of thing. I have no doubt that it is effective. Maybe i'm letting my own prejudices get in the way but, i really "dont" want to have access to, and be excellent with, every skill.
The specialization i read about seems extremely limited and situationally based. Not enough distinction in my book. Enough theory on my part. Gonna go play more and post less. See you in game. My name is "AntiMatter Explosion" Please Gank me. It hasnt happened yet. LOL!!!!

p.s. you can't get ganked for your first 24 hours unless you travel far away from the newbie areas.

while it's true that everyone can eventually learn everything...it would take forever. Best bet is to focus on a specific set of skills, at least for the first six months.
The specialization system will be changing, and becomeing more refined this year. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it, and how they handle it.
I have some concern about this since me, i really enjoy MO. MAybe you was a newb in MO and left as a newb so il fix up some lope hole.
MAP: MO is a beta, so they did not made the map yet. They made a map that you can browse on the internet, but its not that helpful since players can shape the world anyway. 1 day, they will make a map system, a realistic one. Not like they did in other games. You will have to get a skill name Cartography for that and with a pen and paper while exploring.
Skills/stats notification: In MO, they dont need to notify you when you skill and stats increase because they increase so fast that it would had been more annoying and refreshing. IF they did notify you, you would get a notify every 10 to 30 sec maybe. Progression in MO is so fast, you can just play the game instead of looking at your stats and skills all day. (me, i look at my stats and skills only at the end of the day.
PVP Survival You didnt die in 4 hits in your 1st fight in DF because you faced newb's like you. Go far away from the starter town and you will die in less then 4 hits. If you try running away, you will die in 2 back shots by an high ranked player.(Anyway, i wonder how much days you will last in the starter town lol, progression in DF is slow) For MO part, what do you expect when you are a newb? I have nothing more to say.
Customization Please, explain more when you say DF customization is better then MO? MO, you can change height. In DF, you cant. In MO, you can place the stats in the order you want before you start playing. In DF, you cant. In MO, you got age. In DF, you dont. In MO, you got 10 different races base on the human physique, meaning that switching race is more about switching shape. DF got 6 different races, but they all look the same. There is a lot more coming for MO on customization because its beta(I know, its release this month, but adding more character creation option is not hard.)
Sprint sec Wow, you can sprint for more then 3 sec. Expect to eat and drink for the rest of your playing time. In MO, progression is fast like i said. IF you simply play the game instead of whining about it on forums, you would quickly raise the amount of time you can sprint. Also, stamina regen in MO is really fast. DF stamina regen is slow unless you grind on pots and get the mana to stamina or hp to stamina.
Gui Wait, you really did want to right click to open your gui mode? Who didnt change that option yet? Soon, you will change it to something more useful. Me, i switched it to block. In MO, gui mode is just to put up your mouse's arrow so you can play in your inventory or stuff like that. Without the need to go Gui mode, you cans simply press (I) to open your inventory and then you press (Z) To controll your mouse's arrow
ControlFor the control part, i wonder what your play style will be. IF its melee, at the long run, you will get sick of it. IF its archer or magic spam, enjoy playing quake or unreal tournament. During fight, you will none stop holding the sprint button. To dodge, you will zigzag. You will never use block on melee battle. You will use block vs rangers only or to run away backward waiting for your teamates to jump in. Other then that, you will spam none stop, mindlessly. With knowledge, you will none stop hitting different hotkeys and thats all.

Fact is even after Mo fans come over and defend it Darkfall is a better developed, better thought out and supported MMorpg. Complain and try to say otherwise as much as you want, its simply a much better game
I can't compare DFO combat to MO combat as I haven't really done much aside from killing pigs in MO!
I'd say character customization is different, in DFO you focus train because of the time it takes. In Mortal there's a skill cap and it trains far quicker compared to DF. I think DF and MO are what they are here, if you don't have a skill cap then it needs to take time and you can't have fast gains, if you have a skill cap then it doesn't matter if the gains are quick. I suppose it comes down to preference, I loved SWG pre-cu so always prefered skill caps with a slow gain.
As for char creation MO simply blows DF away, char creation was always an important factor for me (SWG) and looking unique. MO does this and is probably why DF is having a character model upgrade in 2010.
You can sprint longer in DF but it's all relative, doesn't make a difference to me.
Opening the GUI is great in DF, one click and all your options are there. In my personal opinion MO sucks hard here.
I can't comment too much on combat yet as my experience in MO is limited but so far DF combat still is better and more fluid.
Graphics, MO wins hands down here. I think that the style of DFO graphics are alot more dark and gritty and the change in MO just feels good.
Too many starter towns in DF (18) and only 3 in MO so you get more people to play with and interact with and they're safer places.
The big problem with no skill cap in DFO is that if anyone wants to play a crafter it's pretty much impossible as everyone ends up being able to craft plate and R40's at some point. Therefore being a trader is also tough since there's no big neutral city people can trade in peace. Everyone is forced to be able to PvP and craft and gather, a skill cap allows different playstyles to become viable. I'm not saying you can't do any of it in DFO what I'm saying is that people do purchase from crafters and pay enchanters and so forth however they don't NEED them in DFO due to no skill cap. Whereas in MO they do.

Pure entertainment.
The reality is that MO isn't finished and shouldn't even be on the table until it is released. But this post is pretty funny and it is clear you haven't played DFO, nor do you think about the consequences of adding certain mechanics inot a game. Nor do you understand the basic concept of scope, which is something the MO designers clearly do not understand.
MAP
The game isn't released. So it really ins't worth talking about this. I am VERY concerned that MO is implementing new features when they should be bug fixing and polishing. It is VERY late to be implementing ANY new features.
Skills/stats notification
Personal preference. Not even worth arguing about.
PvP Survival
You seem to have an issue with character progression. This is an MMO. EVERY MMO has character progression. In most MMOs a player of level 1 cant even scratch a level 10. Give it a rest.
Also, other than 2 VERY special scenarios it is impossible to kill someone in less than 4 hits. Both situations are avoidable if you understand the game mechanics
CUSTOMIZATION
"DF got 6 different races, but they all look the same." You clearly have not played the game. You haven't even seen the character creator if you beleive this.
Sprint sec
First, this is not an issue of which system is better it is a question of the speed of the game and the look and feel. Of course this is a personal preference. Take each game or leave. But don't lie about games you clearly have never played.
"DF stamina regen is slow unless you grind on pots and get the mana to stamina or hp to stamina."
You clearly have not played the game. Depending on specializations you choose, certain skill levels, and food will determine how much stamina you have.
CONTROL
Maybe you don't like the controls. Thye are certainly different. But celarly you have not played this type of game with any other conrols so you have no clue what would be better. I personally hated the controls for the first 2 days, but then I realzied that the UI is FAR more versatile than a traditional UI. Not to mention that a traditional UI will not work with out tab targeting.
I have no idea what you are talking about in the rest of this section. I am guessing you are blathering on about some MO mechanic.
Blind fanbois are annoying
Haters are annoying
You seem to be both.
Fist off, I love Darkfall. Everyone knows this.
But I DO really like MO.....well...I like what the game is meant to become, and I kinda like what I see so far. Maybe when the game's done, or at least actually playable I'll have more of an idea of weather I REALLY like it or not.
Both games are very different, and I appreciate both of them for what they are trying to be. Once MO shapes up into the Dev's vision and gets under way, I'll probably play both games.
WTF?
You guys have defended the grind in DF vigorously, and now you are trying out MO?
Ahh well, I`ll join you if MO is any good. Skillcaps and fast grind sounds like my alley
a point about MO that was brought up, how fast you skill up, is temporary, for beta purposes.. They have always said it would be much slower
Nothing to do with the "grind", imaginary or otherwise, at least for me.
I like the whole hyper-realistic style of MO. The concepts of the game are good, and it's something to do when I don't have time to get into a long Darkfall session (since I can't just log into DF for an hour or two....).
In defense of other gamers that apparently are somewhat like myself.....just because you're "trying out" another MMO, does not mean you are shopping for a new one, necessarily, or that you are unhappy with the one you're presently playing.
I try every MMO that I can really (except maybe space MMOs outside of EVE...I'm not that hip on the idea of living in outer space). So there are many many times that I'm posting on here about trying some other game and just trying to keep an eye on what is happening in the genre....you know....just for fun.

if you manage to max every skill, your still not going to be using them at the same time. why.. well because its impossible. your still only casting 1 spell at a time or swining 1 weapon. think about it. who cares if you have swords and maces, caps are just a reduction in player (sandbox) freedom.
Its not about individual skills, its about different roles in the battlefield for each fighters. In DF, all players are MeleeTankerArcherMageSupporter. The only individuality you see in DF between player is grind time spent, player skill and thats it. You see anyone taking bone armors or Scale armors.

Except you need to either be a mage or a destroyer, and its your choice and you have the ability to change it when you want. The hybrid playstyle is nice as well but you dont run around and melee and archering someone when your a mage.

Agreed, I find with MO I'm able to play it very casualy whereas DFO you don't log in for 1 hour to kill some goblins then log out (well I don't anyway). At this point in DFO I'm in it for the massive sieges which now that PR vs Cairn has ended, the sieges have dropped off or become 20 second washouts.
MO concepts are good but it's not ready for release in my opinion, for me I can deal with it as I enjoy everything that is there and have seen worse issues in games at launch. However people on the whole will slate MO just the same as they slated DF in reviews. Another independent game that isn't going to create any advertising revenue releasing a half finished game, as opposed to the AAA studio that is going to splash out on marketing releasing a half finished theme park instanced to death.
I like the concepts of MO, owning territory and having gods and the realism.

If you are a mage you are not a good tank, ever. Tanks wear scale or better armor. A mage wearing this type of armor is pretty useless. Also, no one beats a true destroyer playing as part of a team.
The reality is that many games have classes, where you can log into your shaman, your cleric, your warrior, your hunter. Darkfall has roles. Based on the gear and specialization you will play the role you wish. You can be an artillery mage, a support mage, an archer/melee, a pure melee.
When you compare "vision" of MO and DF - MO wins hands down.
But MO is on it's second year of development - and delivering all promised features (those mentioned on IRC) will take anywhere between 6 to 7 years.
And DF is quite fun game to play while waiting for MO to realize it's potential
Edit: nvm

When i see youtube videos, i see players go melee, archer and mage at the same time. Even if they wear bones or scale, they go melee while they face a big crowd. A mage in any other game would die quick in that type of situation. I also talk about the DF vets who got a load of skills and playstyle. I dont see anyone wearing full plated in DF,

LMAO you don' even realize that you use wands to heal. this is NOT going mage. Also, even destroyers have access to limited magic lines. Again, this is NOT going mage.
Dude, if you haven't even played the game or understand the game mechanics just stop posting.

Just to enlighten you....casters wear bone armor to reduce the chance of spell fizzle. Yeah, they can go melee if someone gets in close, but in that flimsy armor, they are still going to die fairly easily when fighting a pure melee player in plate or inferno (for example) with r60 keened weapons.
I've been on both ends of the spectrum. I played an "indestructible" spec for a long time (instead of destroyer, since a lot of casters switch to melee at close range...I found that the ability to have higher magic resists allowed me to close the gap with more health remaining, and was more useful than doing extra damage to someone with a staff out...since they rarely had a staff out by the time I was swinging at them), and now for a change of pace am playing a caster. Half of the fight as a caster is simply trying to keep the pure melee types away from you. If a pure melee gets close, yer gonna die, 8/10 times. That bone armor might as well be paper.
