I have been watching the way things have been going on this site. I have to say that I find all this increasing moderation to be nothing more than old fashioned censurship. I fought for this nation and the constitution, When i see the right to freedom of speech so casually cast aside in the forums makes me realize how out of touch you guys are and that you have no idea how dangerous any form of censurship is. So what if people flame? Are not we old enough to deal with it? When I post on any forum I always invite people to flame anything I say, any opinion I have is always subject to agreement or not. If someone feels that they should cast insults and aspersions at me I have always said go ahead. I am a big enough person to take it. Just as long as the person who does the flaming can take what they dish out.
But this is different. It goes a bit beyond simple name calling. It seems like some kind of college experiment in sociaology. All I have to say is that the internet was originally about free speech and information sharing. But it doesnt seem like that anymore. at least not here,

While I agree with you in principal, society does have rules to maintain order. There is freedom of speech, but you are not free to exercise it wherever you will, specifically not on private property, which is what MMORPG.com is.
There is a requirement sometimes to be civil when holding a discussion, and name calling and bad behavior are not acceptable.

Its a private site. If someone came into your home, don't you reserve the right to kick em out, if you don't like what they say?
Thank you, to be honest I don't think that most people even think anymore. We are all inundated with so many RL concerns that we lose sight of the big picture. And it does not matter whether or not this is private property. IE if some one comes onto my lawn and starts yelling that I am a card carrying communist that molests children, there is nothing I can do to stop him. All I can do is call the police and have that person arrested for tresspassing.
Should be the same here, which also proves my point.
You contradicted yourself there buddy. Calling the police IS doing something.

A bit too "far fetched" but, why would you call the police if the person is exercising his Freedom of Speech? Because there's a limit to what we call Freedom Of Speech. MMORPG.com is a private site that has it's own rules and when members register, they must agree to the Terms Of Service. In other words, if they breach the ToS or Website rules, moderators can take the action they deem appropriate.
I don't think they are censuring anything to be honest. There's some pretty bad posts on this website and they delete trolls, I don't see any problem with this.
You might be fine with it but I am not. I want to get information and not going through dozen of posts and pages of flaming just to fine a post that is actualy interesting.
This has nothing to do with censorship.
Hmm. The Freedom Of Speech debate.
I don't know if this is peculiar to my perspective; maybe it's because I'm not American .. maybe it's just because I have a low tolerance for idiocy, but I've never considered other peoples "Freedom of Speech" to be more important than my "Freedom From Morons".

Anonymous people on the internet are incapable of having civil discourse... this has been proven time and again. Also, look at each website as it's own little country. Each one gets to make up and enforce it's own rules of behavior for people that want to "live" (participate) in their country. If the admins of a site make a rule that says, "Thou may not use "the" in any of your communications on our forums, else you will be banned!" That is their right, and if you want to live in their country, you follow the rules or they deport you. You might not like it, it may not make any sense, but this isn't the USA, there is no Constitution or Bill of Rights but the one's they make...
This site, or more specifically the forum community has been pretty much a laughing stock because it has always been a fairly unmoderated cesspool of internet dregs, trolls and foul-mouthed little e-thugs. I for one am glad that the staff here has decided to try and do something about it and make some changes.

Cause simply, name calling never ever added to any discussion. If you wanna call names with somebody else take it privately. Cause IT IS something between you and him. When you open a thread on a forum you are supposed to be opening up a subject for convertation that has *public* interest, not just private interest. So you have to be constructive and whatever you and anyone else says has to add in some manner to the original topic of the discussion.

You guys are putting in some very good points, I admit that it isn't a lot of fun wading through flame after flame to find someones point. But I have to say that part of the process is letting someone have the right to say what they want, If they choose to demonstrate obviously poor social skills as well as a bad attitude thats what its for.
I really thank you guys, it helps seeing this.
Free speech means the government can't prevent the expression of your views. A private website can - all it wants to in fact.

Any post found violating the Rules of Conduct which can be found here: www.mmorpg.com/disclaimers.cfm#conduct will be cleaned/deleted. To create and maintain an account on mmorpg.com you must agree to adhere to said rules (which only aim to keep the forums clean and promote helpful conversation). Just like society has a framework of rules to work within, so does this site's forums. Without most of these rules, threads can and some have degenerated into 30+ pages of off-topic flaming. Other than rare, occasionally mild comedic value, those kind of posts just annoy the users wanting to get or contribute useful/factual information.
If there are concerns, problems, and/or disagreements with an action taken against an account you have every right to protest. Either reply to the notification e-mail for an action, or send any comments/concerns to the Community Manager "MikeB" at community@mmorpg.com. Any concerns (even if not related to account action) should be directed to a private message to him as well.
